    I'd rather buy that ninja "cookbook", but does it have recipes for suikatsugan and kikatsugan as well?

    I think steaming is why you are getting molding. Ninja probably would have eaten these like hardtack, by popping them in their mouth and letting them soak. Wet food adds weight, causes spoilage, and is difficult to carry.

      They can be boiled on site to make a nicer meal for you OR horses . ;)
      Many ways to quickly prep food on battle field.

    I love it! I can visualize it really easy thanks to your video. Step one: I need a shopping list. Great work, JJ.

    How quietly can you eat one? (Btw, its said just one is meant to be a meal with water, 3 a day, max for a typical ninja, maybe four for someone 5'9" or taller). Also, at the very end, you reminded me of Anton Ego from Ratatouille - it would be so cool/fun if you did a Ninja foodie episode mimicking him n.n - Also, I wanted to suggest that you add pure cacao nibs from either Hawaii (preferred) or Brazil, finely grained and powdered. They add a little bitterness to counter the sweet, and much more importantly, are packed with magnesium which counters a lot of body odor produced in the intestine.

    I've seen different versions of these, though they are sometimes smaller..maybe for ease of transport of more than a few. This is the first time I've seen them be of a larger more traditional size like ones I've read about. Another great video that's easy to understand.

    Yes they taste like cinnamon and sugar flavor. Just dry that's all. but overall they do taste good.

    Hey bro! Does this shit work?! Did you shred up while taking this?
    I'm watching a documentary about ninjas and it said that they would survive off of this food. I'm thinking I might try a month on this stuff.
    I'd liked to ask you a few more questions.

    Do you think it would hurt to use saki instead of water?

    • @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey
      @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey  8 років тому +2

      Yes. Just water mate. With sake the shelf life would go down as well. Plus might not dehydrate well if that is intended also...

      Protein, iron, and vitamin A or E one of those two. Also heard fish blood was also used too.

    Hey these don't go bad or anything right? Does it need to be refrigerated or any thing? Please reply!

    • @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey
      @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey  8 років тому +1

      +Jacob Belanio Productions yes, they can go moldy like over night.
      You can freeze them and then thaw to eat, or I have dehydrated them and simply boil or steam them again to make them edible once more.
      But they are never like right out of the oven after all that.

    How many according to tradition did they eat a day ?

    • @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey
      @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey  8 років тому +1

      +Robert Daigle :
      2 or 3 a day. But that is like "rationing" I assume you could eat a few more, but I noticed that when I ate them, they did expand in the stomach and made a very "full" feeling. SO I assume too many would cause cramps.

      +Luke Finlayson I uses sticky calrose rice so it would make nice rice balls, just got it from the common grocery store, its the other seeds that I had to mail order from china :P

  • @LukeCrockerExellence

    kinda funny that you used fresh yam and powdered ginseng, while I did the opposite >.<
    I also didn't have the means to powder my rice, I did them solid and the boiling process softened them a little; something I want to change next time.

    • @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey

      Added properties of improved circulation, keeping blood pressure at bay etc.
      Many fine attributes Ginseng adds ;)

    Do you actually have to use suguar or could you use honey instead?

    • @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey
      @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey  8 років тому

      +Luke Finlayson Well instead of turning to brown sugar, there is a healthier alternative that is actually better and I think MEANT for this recipe, that is 'Japanese black sugar'
      I have no idea if honey would work as well, it might goo up the portions. ...

    when ninja made food they only made things without any scent so they can't be tracked, this is fake.

    • @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey
      @JohnJohnsonSactownspidey  8 років тому +13

      Its info/ a recipe direct from a 1600 Samurai text. Cant beat that and is FAR from the whole "fake " game.
      Nice try, and thanks. even with pure clean foods , there will ALWAYS be a body odor,,,,the true shinobi tricks were how they covered that up. ;)
