      We have good military men again. They are opening their eyes to witness the recklessness and lawlessness in democracy. Civilians are doing just the way it pleases them; they give them all sorts of protection. Well, It is hard time. They woke up, joined their forces with the masses to hold them accountable for all their misdeeds - from the Presidency to the National House of Assembly. Their reckless life styles of governance have wasted a generation of Nigerians. Nigerians must all wake up to take their destiny from the hands of the blind, visionless, wasteful politicians.

    @planet8491 26 днів тому +6

    NedMedia, your analysis is wrong... and you are contradicting yourself.
    The striking workers and effectively shutting down the airport, made the government respond immediately.
    Asking NLC to end the strike and then come for negotiations, is tantamount to wasting everyone's time. Their goal is to weaken the NLC position, put mechanism in place to make sure the next strike is ineffective, and then drag feet and pressure NLC into accepting peanut. If NLC hadn't sheepishly called off that strike, by now the minimum wage would have been resolved and signed.
    Now, NLC can't go into another strike because government will blackmail and gaslight them or simply go to court to stop them... on the grounds that negotiations are already ongoing.
    So Nedmedia, you goofed on this one. Calling off a strike because government says so is totally Ineffective!

    • @okunji1
      @okunji1 26 днів тому +1

      Remember that shutting down the country via strike hurts us more than it hurts the govt. You shut down the airport, they can fly with helicopters. You shut down power grid, they have huge generators that will carry them for months. They have food stored. Shutting down will only give them a stay home holiday, but the common man who depends on daily work to feed will be dying.

    You see Ned, you are doing very well in your analysis. But then, most of the news we have in Nigeria is on a negative side. When then is the hope that it will get better if not Nigerians holding the government accountable. The best accountability Nigerians should stage is to ask their house representatives to propose for divisoon of Nigeria into her original constituents members. We should stop beating about the bush. We should stop pretending that ot will get better when the current moves is not gearing towards a great nation.

    This is the first time I would disagree with your position. The strike should not have been called off as that is the only pressure labour can apply at this time. All this that is happening since then is a waste of time while the govt is getting their way (not paying the new demanded wage). As long as labor is determined and resolute in their requested amount, then maximum pressure till you get what is deserving for the people. Oh well, the dismantling and castration of labour continues.

    I understand that the first reaction, to rising cost of living in an economy, is for workers to ask for wage increase. But inflation is traceable to low productivity. Ultimately we will have to produce more of the things we consume if our currency must be strong. To think that having more money in the pocket will make live easier, when we are not producing enough, is not good thinking.
    I think NLC should also be making demands, on government, aimed at increasing productivity generally, and in agriculture in particular.

    Your political commentary often resonates sensibly. But I don't agree with your position on this issue. There was no reason the only protest that gained traction in Nigeria amidst the ongoing shegge could not have continued while the Tinubu administration carried on with their proposed negotiation, which we have out was just another tactics to derail that protest. I expect you of all people to understand that. The Nigerian Labor unions have had several of their so-called protests in the past one year that went nowhere. The only one that nearly succeeded in bringing the corrupt system called Nigeria to a halt should never have been suspended or RELAXED as Ajero would like to call it. Now that it has become obvious the Tinubu government is not willing to bargain in good faith, what's next? Will it be easy to bring people together to replicate the same enthusiasm as was demonstrated in the RELAXED protest? The answer is probably no. We all watched in the last several weeks as Kenyan youths nearly brought the government of William Ruto to a grinding halt as he made one concession after another. In my opinion, the NLC and TUC, and others, should NEVER have suspended the only protest that had the chance of being effective, including expanding the demands beyond just minimum wage.
