Short story time to thank this channel!!! I got my first Leo a couple months back, I named what I believe is a him “Quince” and feel in love. At the time I kept it on sand, Calci as Petco suggested. After a week or so someone reached out to me saying I shouldn’t keep it on sand. The next day I rushed to the store and got a pet carpet. Had that for a couple of Months cleaning it etc. it got STINKY. and my gecko was colder the temp was lower and shedding- a little. I then watched this channel and freaked out at the things I was doing ok good and wrong. Then I got eco earth. My gecko was more tame able and liked being touched. The temp shot up in result to a healthier gecko and a happier one. I want to thank you sm, for these vids. I can’t describe how much u saved me. Geckos are a debated subjects do couldn’t find a trustable enough article that gave me EVERY piece of advice like you do. Now not only can I help people with their pet but mine is happy and healthy. The comments are also helpful as some ppl have the same questions and they get answered. So I’m conclusion to my not very literate story, thank you, your my favorite Leo channel. ♥️never stop. Also every video is useful so wow!
It's totally fine if they eat a bit. Many times my geckos have just missed a cricket and got a mouthful of eco earth. Some they eat, some they spit out, but they're always fine afterwards.
@declan well ive used it for 8 years and never had a problem. they dont tend to eat very much of it, and even if they get a mouthful then tend to spit it out, or just eat it, and its all fine :) sand however, is bad.
I actually had a mini panic attack because I had been using eco earth but then I read a bunch of things saying not to use ANY loose substrate. I am so glad that eco earth is okay to use because my Leo’s just were not happy on carpet because they LOVE to dig. I still put my geckos in warm water once every couple of weeks and check for impaction just in case but eco earth has never given any of mine impaction.
I thought I was supposed to put my gecko in while adding the hot water :/ i don't know what's wrong with it now. Figured if I put him in the freezer for a bit he'd be ok but I think he's mad at me because he's giving me the cold shoulder.
I'm getting ready to switch to eco earth, but u wasn't sure about the maintenance on it. meaning, do I treat it like a litter box? or how would I clean it in the 6 month span?
If your use of it for animals you should leave it damp, but take a blanket and spread it on yard on a sunny day, spread out the eco earth on the blanket and let it sit.
I’m getting a gecko soon, I always assumed it came all Separated and you just sprinkled it in the cage, I found this video very interesting! Edit: I now release it comes in different forms, still interesting tho
I'm interested in getting Eco Earth, but I'm afraid about impaction. I've looked around on the internet and half of the people say it's fine to use, and the other half say it's not very safe. What do you think?
I think it's safe, i'v used it like a year now, and never saw nothing harmless in my leos belly. It's everyones own choice, who want to take a little risk, or who want to use something more safe. It's actually about your leopard gecko, does she/he like it.
I know you probably have no time for this, and I haven't had time to watch every one of your videos, but could you please tell me how much eco earth to use?
There are no mites but sometimes u can find spring tails which are actually not harmful at all and they are basically just cleaning the substrate! They don't hurt your gecko or your terrarium.
What I do is I poot the eco earth in the freezer for 24 hours before I use it. But if you get the eco earth in a bag already mixed with water you want it to dry out so the water doesn't freeze. That way if there are mites, ants or any other bug that can harm the animal
Hello! I am a new Leo mom. I am currently using eco earth on the heated side of Meeko's tank and moss on the cool/humid side. I just got her and she spends most of her day on the cool side and only goes to the heated hide at night when she's wondering around or if I put food there. Should I be concerned? (Also I just got her from a pet store on Friday 7/14/17 and she's about to start shedding)
I am going to order now. We was talking about eco earth you know, i have some questions about it. 1.so i can put Lizzie in the tank before the eco earth is still wet, or is it too hot? 2. am i going to use a whole block for one use, or how do i "cut" it if i won´t use the whole block? thaks! //Isabella
Hi again :) I've recently added a video on my cleaning out process, so that might be helpful if you check out my recent uploads. What I do is wait for it to completely cool down, this could take a day. Then you can add it in wet, but if you have a vivarium, you'll find that it will take a while to dry out, and the windows will steam up. This time round I left it for a few days to dry out, and there wasn't so much water on the windows. As for cutting it in half, I tried that once, its very difficult. Best thing to do is make it all up, then use half and wait til the other half is completely dry, then bag is up and store it for another 6 months. Make sure its fully dry or it could grow mould.
The part she didn't show in the video is the part where you have to squeeze out all of the water, then you have to dry the Eco Earth by leaving it in the sun for a few days, or even putting it in the oven on a very low temperature, before you can put it in a leopard's tank. If you don't, it just holds the moisture and the humidity will skyrocket. I know this from experience. :-)
@LeopardGecko hi Iv literally followed all of your instructions getting my Viv set up whilst waiting for my baby Leo to hatch, only thing I'm having problems with is drying the eco earth out and roughly how thick of a layer should I put in my 3ft viv?
hey, I put Pisces on eco earth for the very first time a couple hours ago! 😃 it's something I've always wanted to do and have been debating since the very first time I discovered your channel! now, it's been about 5 hours since I put it in his tank, so I don't know if it's the fact that it's his first time or that he just doesn't like it! he spends a lot more time on TOP of one of his hides and I saved some of his 'loo' and kinda put it in certain areas so it isn't too much of a environment shock! so that's what I'm wondering is it the fact that he's still adapting to the change of environment or should I abort the whole thing and go back to reptile carpet!? just for the fact that I don't want any extra stress on my gecko! he's my first gecko EVER so the bond I have towards him is great, thanks! 😃
+born2 beke it's probably because its all new. If its gone in wet then its not great as ideally you want it dry. also the smell of the eco earth may over power his smell, so he may be like "oo what is this place ive moved into?" lol
Lol okay, and Yea the eco earth is dry. He seems to be doing..... better 😃 but I'm going to let him adjust to it I'm not gonna take him out of the tank for a couple days and it's so cute because he is kind of slipping and sliding but that's getting better also! But once he adjust I'm gonna let him get used to bring on eco earth for a few months and get some more decorations, hides, etc. He also has gained a bit of weight since he came out of his semi brumation! So I've cut back a little on feeding, and I also plan on introducing him to new treats once in a while! But thanks so much for the advice! 😃
Leopard Gecko I just put my leopard geckos in with eco earth. Their eco earth is wet because I thought it would dry out when their lights are on and it says to put it outside so should I take out the wet eco earth set it outside and put in paper towel
Wouldn't the eco earth get wet from the condensation after it being warm then being left to cool down and dry out, I've noticed that with mine it hasn't dried out even after 2 days, Any ways of getting it dry quicker?Just don't want it too humid for my gecko.
i used echo earth i just left it in water for 20 min and then i put it in my geko seemed to like it but there was always dirt in the water so i put a paper towle spot like a little island n he was always on the paper towel...does that mwan he didnt like the dirt
@LeopardGecko I have changed my substrate from sand to eco earth but didn’t let the eco earth completely dry do I have to worry about humidity too much?
you can do either. if you put it in whilst wet you'll get a lot of condensation at first, but the heat mat will dry it out. The cooler area may take longer to dry out. Or just leave it near a radiator or something, to dry out before adding to the viv.
i used eco-earth but now the humidity in my tank is SUPER high, i think my problem is that i didn't wait for it to fully dry before i put it in!! what should i do? should i take it out and use paper towels until it's completely dry or just wait for it to dry on its own? any tips appreciated !
robin nobin I know this is from a year ago but if this does ever happen, make sure you dry it complete but if it's already in your tank remove all decorations and hides and get a blowdrier and mix the eco earth while drying it.
hey, could you tell me whats the difference between cocopeat and eco earth? Are they both the same? and also i came across something called the "jungle earth", is it good for leopard geckos? It would be really helpful if you could clarify those for me. tqvm

I was just about to ask my maru gets a bit in her mouth here and there so I was worried about her digesting it
Leopard Gecko good... My gecko had a mouth full of Eco earth and it ate it.. I freaked out!
Leopard Gecko
For some unknown reason I keep on watching this video probably because I like people making eco earth.
I actually had a mini panic attack because I had been using eco earth but then I read a bunch of things saying not to use ANY loose substrate. I am so glad that eco earth is okay to use because my Leo’s just were not happy on carpet because they LOVE to dig. Willow Hardley
Lol it was a joke. I don't think anyone is dumb enough to do that. Plus I don't even own a gecko. I just have snakes.
i didnt think it was true tbh😂
Willow Hardley
Lol just thought I'd say that to get funny reactions 😆
i would probarbly do the same thing tbh😂😂
lol man, just dont! :))
Thumbs up for your accent! =D
No problem, glad it helped :D
I'm getting ready to switch to eco earth, but u wasn't sure about the maintenance on it. meaning, do I treat it like a litter box? or how would I clean it in the 6 month span?
Food Critic Melo eat some food
You just gotta scoop the poop
love your vids. better than the rest and soi nformative xx
my teapot is crazy! haha
What is the best way to dry the Eco earth?
Cody Wilson dont they need humidity
If your use of it for animals you should leave it damp, but take a blanket and spread it on yard on a sunny day, spread out the eco earth on the blanket and let it sit.
I have a 20 gallon tank for my Leo. How much do I need? Sorry, I’ve never used eco earth before 😶
if u find out let me know lol
1 brick should do it
@@artist_trash9547
Thank you! I forgot about this comment lol, I ended up just eyeing it and figured it out!
I’m getting a gecko soon, I always assumed it came all Separated and you just sprinkled it in the cage, I found this video very interesting!
Edit: I now release it comes in different forms, still interesting tho
Eco earth is cocopeat right??
For one gecko can you do half of everything
I'm interested in getting Eco Earth, but I'm afraid about impaction. I've looked around on the internet and half of the people say it's fine to use, and the other half say it's not very safe. What do you think?
Declan Graham i think nothing
I'm Bob 154647 I agree

The geckos poop it back out if the eat Eco Earth
Is Eco Earth the same as Coco Bark? Or is there a difference of some sort?
Just did this with the boiling hot water, made a world of difference, cheers Rebecca ;D
no problem :D ... oo is this your new channel?
Yeah, doing vids for my three scale babies :P
ooh cool, I'll have to check them out at some point :)
Your name is Rebecca? @leopard gecko
yep :)
Can you dry if already moist quickly if so how it just won't dry
I know you probably have no time for this, and I haven't had time to watch every one of your videos, but could you please tell me how much eco earth to use?
50 pounds
hi. I was curious if you've ever found mites or had any sort of bugs living in the eco earth??
There are no mites but sometimes u can find spring tails which are actually not harmful at all and they are basically just cleaning the substrate! They don't hurt your gecko or your terrarium.
+LizardsNSuch Thank you for informing me further on the matter.
How about ants?? I’ve found several small ones. What can I so
What I do is I poot the eco earth in the freezer for 24 hours before I use it. But if you get the eco earth in a bag already mixed with water you want it to dry out so the water doesn't freeze. That way if there are mites, ants or any other bug that can harm the animal
How do you clean Eco earth is it like a litter box?
would this be a good substrate for ball pythons too?
Is Eco earth better then exo terra's plantation soil? I've used eco earth a long time ago when I was 13 for Cuban tree Frogs

how do I low humidity on my leopard gecko's tank? because after I mixed the coconut fiber with the water, the humidity is on 80 ?

Is there a difference between using this and just using the bag of coconut fiber?
Can I use the loose bag version of Eco Earth or do I have to use the bricks?
It doesn't matter. If you get the bricks, you must dry them out completely, though, which is a pain
what size tank is that
How do you heat the eco earth for the hot hide?
In that tank you just showed, what do you use to heat the hot side with?
u probs know it now as it is 2 years old, but a heat mat is what it is
@LeopardGecko hi Iv literally followed all of your instructions getting my Viv set up whilst waiting for my baby Leo to hatch, only thing I'm having problems with is drying the eco earth out and roughly how thick of a layer should I put in my 3ft viv?
@Leopard Gecko
Just get the bag of premade Eco earth
Fiona Shepley already brought the blocks though it's Okay, I'm drying it out bit by bit by putting it in the tank 😁
What are your thoughts on Reptile Prime for substrate?
For the Eco Earth, do you only add the EcoEarth or do you have to add other stuff to the tank?
Is the bag of eco earth that is already broken up similar to the brick or is there a large difference?
The only difference is price!
how do you clean out eco earth

that's a sick water boiling thing
It's a kettle.
Random MtVids in another eco earth video some kid was using one of those things too. it must be a foreign thing.
Electric Kettle. It's not that hard to find in the US actually. I got mine from walmart.
It's just a kettle everyone has one
+Lauren Hudson You can tell this guy isn't English.
is exo terra PLANTATION SOIL ok for gecko???
I think its the same thing
You can also use cheese or vegemite.
is cocopeat cocofiber
So is one block still fine for only one gecko, instead of two? Will there be any left over or something. what eco earth should i get?
I recommend getting the bag, then you don't have to deal with drying it out :)
Wouldn't the eco earth get wet from the condensation after it being warm then being left to cool down and dry out, I've noticed that with mine it hasn't dried out even after 2 days, Any ways of getting it dry quicker?Just don't want it too humid for my gecko.
Savage , try ringing it out before you put it in the terrarium to get extra water out.
i used echo earth i just left it in water for 20 min and then i put it in my geko seemed to like it but there was always dirt in the water so i put a paper towle spot like a little island n he was always on the paper towel...does that mwan he didnt like the dirt
@LeopardGecko I have changed my substrate from sand to eco earth but didn’t let the eco earth completely dry do I have to worry about humidity too much?
Yep
I’d get the dry bag next time
So I heard if you use loose eco earth it could contain mites.
Do u use declorinated water for the eco earth
Thank you that was very helpful:)
I'm thinking about getting some! But, we're can I get it and for how MUTCH? I live in america
10$ for 3 blocks. each block fills the bottom of a 10 gallon aquarium
Thank u!
Any local pet store: PetCo or PetSmart are where I get mine.
I got 10$ for 3 it fills my entire 29 gal
I have reptile carpet and im getting eco earth soon and do i put it over my reptile carpet or take the carpet out and put the eco earth in ?
Out*
If I'm setting up a new leopard gecko enclosure how deep should the eco earth be? Or does it even matter?
It's should be 1cm where the heat mat is and about 3-4 cm everywhere else
Is it okay if the glass steams up after you put it in because all the glass is steamed up in my viv
You are using hot water for this thing, it will happen
Do I have to leave for the water to dry out? Or put it straight in vivarium when it's wet? :)
you can do either. if you put it in whilst wet you'll get a lot of condensation at first, but the heat mat will dry it out. The cooler area may take longer to dry out. Or just leave it near a radiator or something, to dry out before adding to the viv.
y’all boil the water ? i’ve never boiled mine and it expanded and everything as it should
thank u for helping me out
how much ecoearth will u need for a 55 gal?
i used eco-earth but now the humidity in my tank is SUPER high, i think my problem is that i didn't wait for it to fully dry before i put it in!! what should i do? should i take it out and use paper towels until it's completely dry or just wait for it to dry on its own? any tips appreciated !
robin nobin I know this is from a year ago but if this does ever happen, make sure you dry it complete but if it's already in your tank remove all decorations and hides and get a blowdrier and mix the eco earth while drying it.
hey, could you tell me whats the difference between cocopeat and eco earth? Are they both the same? and also i came across something called the "jungle earth", is it good for leopard geckos? It would be really helpful if you could clarify those for me. tqvm
UDONTLOOK SOGGOD Jungle earth has bark in it, so i wouldnt use that, but yeah cocopeat is pretty much the same as eco earth - though if it contains fertilizers/plant food, i wouldnt use it.
so i can use cocopeat as the susbtrate/bedding for my whole tank?
yeah.
thx
I've had my leopard gecko for about 3 months now and have used carpet in his tank since I've had him but I want to switch him to eco earth now, will this bother or stress him out ?
I'm about to make your exact change! Could you please tell me how it went?
Can you just use hot water but not boiling water
Would this also be good for baby bearded dragons?
No
I am using moss. It seems to be perfect for our baby gecko.
That'll probably cause impaction, especially with a baby.
I have 4 leopard geckos. Two in each tank. How much substrate should I use in each tank?
Kat Raye please separate them!
Fiona Shepley why would I separate them when I can make money if they have babies?
That just seems slightly asinine.
Kat Raye even when breeding, they cannot be together permanently. Have you done research on breeding? It will put a lot of stress on the female, she could get egg bound, and it’ll drastically shorten her lifespan.
Should I use Eco earth for my baby female gecko or should I use paper towels until she gets older?
paper towels first. this gecko is too small
How big should my leopard gecko be before I move them to the eco earth.
About a year
how do you tell where the gecko uses the bathroom with ecoearth?
It can poop every corner, like they do.
can i keep some in stock
How many bricks do I need for a 20 gallon tank
Andy Adkins
2 bricks
If you have extra what do you do with it?
Bacon Bagels
You keep it until you need to replace the old eco earth
the thumbnail makes it look like the eco earth has jondus
hehe sorry for the late comment, when do you have to clean Eco Earth....? Please respond
Potato Flake every 6 months
MysticBlazeGaming Alrighty thank you!
I will sue Min Yoongi I think that's a bit too long, you may want to look it up XD
Is it okay for the geckos to be put in while its still slightly damp?
Now says she would NOT do that size tank
would it be safe to convert my geckos from a carpet to eco-earth?
Yep :)
how often would i clean my geckos tank if i was using the eco earth ?
Every six months
WOA! Then I should switch to eco earth
I've just put in half a brick of eco earth yesterday and the glass keeps on steaming up . Do you know how to fix this problem?
That happened to me! I just kept the lid ajar and it dried out after a few days. Also when the heat mat dries up the Eco earth around it, spread it around the tank to speed up the whole drying process
Dont boil the water she is wrong you not supposed to put boiling water in it
When do you change the Eco Earth
Every six months :)
Is sand bad for the Bearded Dragon?
Yes
Do you have your own house, because for the moth video you said that your dad said that "the moth will be fine."
I did this and it's been drying for 5 days but since putting it in today my vivarium is full of condensation and I'm really worried :(
You'll need to wait until it's completely dry. I'd get the bags of loose, already dry eco earth
I have hundreds a lot of ants in my eco earth after it dries out and i put it in the tank. What can I do please help
how long does it take for it to dry?
raquel tepoz week.. I suggest getting loose eco earth
Do I need to put somthing under the substrate? Plz help :(
Nope
Which gecko is that
@Leopard Gecko where can I get the Eco earth
I found it at petsmart.
Rdp 123 Amazon has it for cheap
how many time will it take
Doesn't matter just mush it all up
Wow at my pet store they had small bricks of it so I bought a small brick and they said to use room temperature water and let it stay in the water for 15 mins :/
any temperature water is fine but most ppl use hot water because it's faster
is eco earth and coco powder similar?????
!Will_ mashup! coco powder is usually chocolate :') i know there some sort of coconute fibre soil thing, that people also use, though if you do use that, make sure it doesnt container fertilisers/plant food.
ok thank you
Great job on the "how to" vid!
Is it normal to get little tiny bugs in your eco earth?
I heard it's quite normal and they do no harm to the gecko anyway
DragonFang 409 I am using them for my box turtle hatchlings I am sure if they don't harm them if they don't harm geckos
DragonFang 409 thank you
Is this bad if a gecko eats it? And is It good for a baby gecko need answer ASAP please
+luke johnson No. It breaks up in water so it won't affect their health.
Thanks
It will poop it out
Can my leopard geckos be put in bio active enclosures?
Yup, I would recommend putting Rollie Phollies in there
PLEASE HELP ME :'( I had me eco earth in for a week now and i think it's growing a bit of fluffy mold around all their hides, what shall i do ?
either scoop out the mould or mix it up, sometimes this happens if its too damp, also if you have wooden hides its a bit of a pain, thats why i try to use resin hides. Once it all dries out, it will be fine.
Leopard Gecko Thank you for your help :) and they are all resin hides so it shouldn't be to bad :)
ah thats good :) hope it all goes well, no worries :D
