My mother sang this years ago so I played it for her and as she began to sing it brought tears to my eyes..... My mum is 80 now and still has an amazingly beautiful voice.
My mum told me how she loved this song from a young girl. I had it played at her funeral back in 2019 and I cry every time I hear it so give your mam a big hug and tell her how much she means to you
Lyrics : I've met some folks who say that I'm a dreamer, And I've no doubt there's truth in what they say, But sure a body's bound to be a dreamer, When all the things he loves are far away. And precious things are dreams unto an exile. They take him o'er the land across the sea Especially when it happens he's an exile, From that dear lovely Isle of Inisfree. And when the moonlight peeps across the rooftops, Of this great city, wondrous though it be, I scarcely feel its wonder or its laughter... I'm once again back home in Inisfree. I wander o'er green hills through dreamy valleys, And find a peace no other land would know. I hear the birds make music fit for angels, And watch the rivers laughing as they flow. And then into a humble shack I wander My dear old home and tenderly behold, The folks I love around the turf fire, gathered. On bended knees, their rosary is told. But dreams don't last Though dreams are not forgotten And soon I'm back to stern reality. But though they pave the footways here with gold dust, I still would choose my Isle of Inisfree.
I downloaded this video and saved it in my cell phone. I play it every night before falling asleep. so warm and so peaceful just like a song from heaven. the greatest lullaby ever. thank you, Orla.
The first time I heard this melody was when Maureen O'Hara performed it in The Quiet Man. I was so happy to see this performance! Thanks for the post........
All of the current and former members of Celtic Woman are lovely, and they all sing like angels, but there is something (beyond her harp and her alto range) special about Orla. This lady simply radiates class. Fortunately, she still records and tours, so we haven't lost her. Look up the "My Land" CD.
This song always makes me cry. As someone who immigrated to a foreign land I always think of my own island and the family I left behind. I think any immigrant can sympathize with this sentiment.
This made me cry. Makes me think of my hunting camp in the Catskill mountains of NY, where some of my most fond memories have been made with a group of the most precious older gentlemen I know. It's still my most favorite place on earth: a little shack with an old wood stove, and a table where we gather in the evenings and tell stories. The second half of this song really expresses my feelings.
Reminds me of the home where I was born. In Northern Scotland. A little village at least then. Durness. It's a small piece of heaven. Not a day goes by that I don't miss it.
I've been away from Scotland for better than 300 years, yet every time I hear the music, my heart goes back again. You can take the blood out of Scotland, but not the Scotland out of the blood.
If you are from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, you are Celtic. You are of one blood, one heart. The love you feel is the same and you are family in blood.@Dún Laoghaire Bríd
This is undoubtedly one of the most poignantly beautiful songs in existence. It puts me in a trance, and I really feel a deep connection with the lyrics. ♥ God Bless Celtic Woman. ♥
For those who say they have not seen nor heard Angles, how could I ever deny, that God has sent the voices of Angles to these young ladies. So lovely is their singing.
I’m with you, Devin. Family history says I’m Scot/Irish. The folks at 23 & Me say I’m all that plus a bunch of other Northern European stock. And if my wife’s observations are accurate, I’ve got some Neanderthal in me, as well. So like most Americans, I’m a mutt. That said, this music is beautiful. It soothes that Neanderthal in me and plucks at my Celtic heart strings.
I can assure you that these artists feel true love for what they stand for. It's this what makes great songs. Not that mainstream rap companies force through the untrained ears of the youth. So if you're an artist, please aspire to something you love in you're music. That's only true secret to make great music.
I agree one hundred percent with you, it is amazing how talented these people are and how not the popular people are and that just makes me furious! These songs are something to appreciate!
My first exposure to Celtic Woman was channel surfing one day and coming across a beautiful woman singing while playing a harp on PBS. Orla was the first Celtic Woman I fell in love with because of this song. Though Orla won't travel the difficult -and long- show schedule anymore I hope she will rejoin the group for another video like the ones at Slane Castle or Powerscourt Gardens again. Come back Orla!!
I keep coming back to this becaus it's the first CW song I heard while channel surfing one Sunday evening and hit th local PBS station. Orla will always be my favorite and with Meav singing in the 2nd CW Christmas album, I'm waiting for Orla to make her re-appearance...
The two most incredibly beautiful songs I've ever heard (and I came across both on UA-cam) are this one, and GOIN' HOME by Sissel. Both of them make me feel unafraid of dying. I want them both played at my memorial service when I die.
what I love is that what you hear is her voice...just her voice...not electronic manipulation. I'd love to hear some of these "popular" singers today be able to stand on a stage and just sing like this. maybe, I'm preduiced but I doubt whether many of them could do it and hold the audience like this girl can.
When I die, I shall have No funeral, and not one shall shed a tear, but please spread my ashes on the west coast of BC, my home, My isle of Inisfree....
I haven't heard this song before, in itself it is singularly wonderful, but I am blown away by her ability to sing so beautifully, whilst playing a harp , of all instruments, almost with disdain, amazing, just a pleasure to behold.
According to Wikipedia it is the main theme for the movie "The Quiet Man". It was written by a policeman. Every time I watch the movie, and this tune is played, I am moved to tears.
What a woman ... When I first saw this video, and hearing the words flowing smoothly out of her orifice, I thought I'd died and heard an angel singing.
This song is SOOO Irish. The funny thing is when I heard Celtic Woman singing it in concert a few years back, I could remember my grandmother singing it...she died five years before it was written. I have often wondered what song she used to sing.
Thankfully, this song was included in The Greatest Journey release! Adding angel Orlagh Fallon to the ensemble of soloists comprising Celtic Woman was a brillant move by Musical Director David Downes; and one for which their many fans are eternally grateful. The success and appeal of CW has been immeasurably enhanced by her presence in the group.
now that is what you call a lovely voice.i love this song .but i have never heard it sung so elegently as this its great.thank you for putting the video on. les
I recognized this as part of the soundtrack to John Wayne's "The Quiet Man" but I've never heard it sung and played as beautifully as this. THIS is an IMPECCABLE arrangement and I thank you for posting it.
while i'm listening i'm actually falling asleep aswell!!! it's so soothing, i feel really free and soothed and calm 'cause of listening this!! Thank you Orla, you are so beautiful
Q ue bellizima cancion es muy esquicita para los oidos, bella vos, bella mujer, bello el grupo y que dios les siga dando muchos exitos mas saludos desde Santo Domingo Huehuetlan el Grande Puebla Mexico.
I listened to this song in English class since my teacher wanted us to find the similarities and differences between this song and the poem "The lake isle of Innisfree" (By William Butler Yeats). I had to hide my face because I almost cried when listening to this song. I felt like it was talking about my dream.
I'm kind of a progressive metal guy myself, but my God, what a perfect voice she has. She may be the best of all the Celtic Women.
I love her and Maev
Kem Hayes one of my all-time favorites
Kem Haye me too! and yes!!!!
Cloe has the most angelic voice
I love her...and maev, but they're all great!
Just my opinion, but this is one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard, regardless of genre
amen

Thank you, Gerard! This song is like a gently beckoning voice on the breeze, calling road weary wanderers home.
So beautiful.
DANKE! WUNDERBAR!
My father would have loved to be able to see and hear these beautiful songs at the touch of a fingertip, bless his Irish soul!!
Brilliant voice, brilliant harpist, she has it all❣️
its like a lullabye. close your eyes, and focus on nothing but her voice and melody. you'll be so relaxed when its done.
Orla's rendition of this lovely song is beautifully played and sang. Her voice is as heavenly as her harp-playing.
The very first Celtic Woman song I heard while channel surfing past a PBS station in 2007. I still come back to listen...
Orla's voice is just incredible... simply... incredible. This music is amazing
She has the perfect voice for a lullaby. I would love to lay as she sings me to sleep. Enchanting.
I downloaded this video and saved it in my cell phone. I play it every night before falling asleep. so warm and so peaceful just like a song from heaven. the greatest lullaby ever. thank you, Orla.
The beautiful Orla Fallon and the Celtic Woman group exemplify talent and class! This is real music and entertainment!
Simplly, angelic. her version is the best in my opinion.
The first time I heard this melody was when Maureen O'Hara performed it in The Quiet Man. I was so happy to see this performance! Thanks for the post........
That's one me favourite versions o' this song. I believe that version was recorded by Bing Crosby. It is indeed a very lovely song.
John Wayne in the quiet man, yes, I still miss the kid world before the internet
@@wellsriver Agree. And I thought John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara were perfect in their roles.
Oh so lovely. I remember watching this year's ago on public television. So calming. This is one of the best. Ora Fallon is delightful.
What a beautiful song it makes me want to go to Ireland to innnifree.
@@lisaparks3678 Have you got you wish of visiting Ireland? 🌿 I am Irish. It would be an honour to visit the Emerald Isle.

A glimpse into heaven
I'm 16 now and I've always listened to classical and celtic music, it inspires you always...
Every time I hear Orla sing this I find myself weeping. Wonderful song, wonderful voice!

"Beautiful, soft & truly serene" ... " My heart music, indeed " ... Blessings always, Ms. Deborah J. Steele - 2/03/22
The way she sings it, it really touches my heart....
Thank you endless ocean games for getting me into this lovely music. These women have so much talent.
Orla's voice is so unique and haunting,it does make you fly away while listening to her singing.
Enchantingly beautiful. Makes me go back in my memories to my own home of more than half a century ago.
*Swoons* It's like a gentle lullaby to me. How beautiful. I love when she sings in Gaeli, her dilect is stunning!
I didn’t hear this beautiful song before. Wonderfull. I’m sure t misses old members of this group

How can anyone give a thumbs down to this? It's absolutely beautiful.
Dreamily beautiful, serenely haunting. And the voice accompanied by a heavenly harp, wow!
Her voice is so natural and clean, just as flows from the air.
Órla has the most enchanting, unique, and haunting voices I've ever heard. Absolutely the best rendition of this song.
I've heard this on endless ocean, and straight away it took me to the white gates
I am 70, and for all those years the movie that this music makes up the heart of has been my favorite. Sometimes magic will have it''s way
It helps knowing that she's also got a great personality. Good music sounds that much better when you know the performers are good people.
This is close to perfect. I am deeply impressed. What a voice.
A perfect voice for a perfect song. Beautiful.
One of my favorite celtic songs. Period. A wonderful rendition by Celtic Woman
For those who say they have not seen nor heard Angles, how could I ever deny, that God has sent the voices of Angles to these young ladies. So lovely is their singing.
This song touches the deepest part of the soul.
The voices of angels they are and makes an part Irishman feel for home

Probably one of my favorite Celtic Woman songs.

From the Celtic Galiza, this song and the performer are wonderful!
Incredible. A perfect lullaby. 💜
How can I dislike this song? So...beautiful! Truly great!
Saw a John Wayne movie last night called "The Quiet Man". Filmed on location in Ireland back in 1952. This tune played in the background many times.
I fell in love with Maureen watching the same movie, can still see her after all these years. The same goes for this beautiful music .
This is one of our favorite John Wayne films! He and Maureen O'Hara were a perfect onscreen couple. The two of them remind me of my parents! Lol
unwanted angel just now watching the same movie.threw a craving on me to hear this.

this song is pure magic. theres no other way to describe it.
Is beautiful, Celtic Woman. Orla Fallon.
The best version from any CW. Enchanting and GORGEOUS woman I remember watching this on public tv over 10 years ago. Time flies.

Love this song and love this lady. Just beautiful

love the way she sings this song while she plays the harp....that is amazing....Orla you rock...
I totally agree! i feel like crying when i hear this song. It is so moving.
Orla is great. I feel like she can sing directly in my soul.
Unbelievable!! The group "Celtic Woman" brings me so much peace. Who needs crap like rap or hip-hop after beautiful music like this?
EXACTLY HIP HOP IS NOT MUSIC
Let's add country-western to the pile of crap that should be flushed.
Right on!!!!
There is a place for hip hop and rap. But this is beautiful.
You mean *mega* crap like rap or hip hop.
I am not even Irish and I love this kind of music as much as I love classical.
