Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are here... but can we beat their ULTIMATE CHALLENGE!? Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were some of my favorite games, and now that the remakes have released I'm excited! But might they be an even harder challenge for a hardcore nuzlocke? Let's find out!
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Shining Pearl Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Steel types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

It's time to tackle these remakes again with a type we've never used! Will we emerge victorious!? Huge thanks to those at Khimyra for making this video possible! Don't forget to check out their store for some sweet apparel! www.khimyra.com/ 👀
Can you do pokemon emerald as ruby from the manga?
Dog those shirts look nice af, defo getting a few plain tees n that tiger one 🔥🔥
Are you going to do a true power for Sinnoh
Remember your friend, Delilah? You know, that Kricketot you never let evolve? I might sound like a madman here, but how bout you do a Kricketot only run of the Remakes, but instead with a full team of 6 Kricketots?
(love the vids, but I wanna see those single pokemon challenge runs come back)
U think u can do a remake version of attempting to beat the game with kricketot
Pulled from Bulbapedia: "According to Elm's research, over 90% of all Pokémon are connected to at least one other through Evolution. (Currently, the actual percentage is 81%.)"
HA, TAKE THAT DAWN!!
@@SilphSpectre Really this is Professor Elm's fault.
Is it possible that elms research was dated and did not include Pokémon we did not yet know about?
@@SilphSpectre curious what the stats were back in Gen 4
@@tolkienblack I was pretty sure this was the case, since there were very few pokemon by gen 2 that didn't evolve outside of legendaries. Then I ran the numbers.
Doing a bit of math, Elm is still wrong. Even excluding legendary pokemon from the equation, about 10.4% of the pokedex consists of nonevolving Pokemon. Meaning the amount of pokemon that DO evolve is actually something like 89.6% at the time of Generation 2.
EDIT: Whoa I was way wrong and actually forgot pokemon that don't evolve. Revised numbers are
13.3% of mons don't evolve meaning 86.7% of nonlegendary pokemon are a part of an evolutionary line.

@@ganjafi59 actually that was viable in gen 2 I used one on my team with all elemental puches was fun
Never expected a wormadam and a bronzong of all things to be the mvps of your team, but considering their types it makes some sense
yea bug steel is a super good type combo and that and quiver dance really makes up for wormadam’s mediocre base stats, and bronzong is really good anyway
Bronzong is great.
I shouldnt see comment before finishing the video. I spoiled myself bruh
It's so nice to see underrated mons be so valued! My own trash wormadam had HP ice and with some item strats, she took out Cynthia's garachomp!

Was going through a very bad day. This put up a smile on my face.
So glad to hear it my friend, and hope the day gets better as it goes!! 🙏

Oddly enough Wormadam is one of the Pokemon I didn't forget. Used one in my first playthrough on Platinum in it's trash form. Only have vague memories of back then but Burmy's odd evolution line has stuck in my memory because of it. More unique than what they did with rotom imo.
I'm still saying no death run. You made all the way to Cynthia and than beat her and only Cynthia was enough to knock out any pokem9n.. you had a deathless run silph. Amazing run
These videos are so gripping to watch yet so equally pleasant to go to sleep to, I can’t explain it haha. It’s my ASMR
Steel is my favorite type. This went excellently and I really like how you actually used Jirachi (not for actual battles, but still my second favorite Pokémon of all time got some screen time so I’m happy).
i love how ILCA made the important fights challenging with perfect nature and EV trained pokemon it makes the game much harder and makes it more enjoyable imo
It's sad that their effort got completely wasted because of that bullshit affection system
doesn’t Flints Infernape have it’s hidden ability iron fist?

Super appreciate the use of the Energy Powder! Love that he didn't take advantage of that friendship mechanic. #truehardcorenuzlocker
I'd really like to see an Ice-type run, but those kinds of Pokemon are usually found fairly late and a run really isn't viable. Maybe it would be possible to use the Dream Radar thing like you did in the Dragon-type run of Black 2?
The only early location is the underground, but idk if it counts as one big area or many small areas
swsh is a perfect game for an ice run
@@glam4663 the thing people seem to do is one encounter per gym
@@noathern Ive rarely seen that rule of one per gym, I see more that's one per route

Silph I super appreciate the fact that you gave some bitter herbs to your team before the league to block the weird affection mechanics 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 you are great, I love your videos 👍🏼
I wish you could just yknow, not be forced into it 😕
Most impressive thing about this run was the time. I can’t believe you did a successful monotype hardcore Nuzlocke of this game in under 25 hours. My friend and I are doing non-Nuzlocke monotype runs (level cap, no items), and my normal type team took 36 hours to become champion. You’re the GOAT
6:48 over 90 percent of Pokémon are tied to evolution but the current percentage is 81
What percentage was it in gen 4 though?
u cant include final evolutions
I've been binging hardcore nuzzlockes for BDSP ever since I beat the main story - and this is the first one I've seen that actually used the bitter items to lower friendship, which really stood out to me as a dedication to the run. Excellent video!

I see what silph did he switched the secondary types of both box legendaries because palkia isn’t in brilliant diamond (the challenge he did last week) and dials isn’t in shining Pearl (which is this week’s challenge). Nice detail
And Shieldon is only in Pearl
@@BlindJedi im comfused, and? he’s playing pearl rn
@@blicharski8249 sheildon is a pearl exclusive fossil, cranidos is in Diamond but it’s pure rock which would make it not a viable steel encounter, which is why silph’s choice to play pearl for a steel run is a clever choice
thes past couple of days been binge watching your nuzzlock vids and love them all, if it's not asking too much can you do more single pkm runs. keep up the good work
Props to the editing on this Nuzlocke, I laughed so hard.
Watching Silph's videos makes my work shift bearable, thanks Mr. Silph!!!
Hello SilphSpectre I recently found your channel through your True Power series, and I just wanted to thank you because I never knew that you could exchange numbers with the Kanto Gym leaders in the Gen 2 remakes.
You have given me a new reason to dig up my copy of Soul Silver and challenge myself again, so thank you.
I think the Jirachi in the thumbnail is perfect for clicks XD
Nice one btw! Love the remakes!
Wormadam and Mothim are getting redemptions this gen and I love it. Quiver Dance is just so good.
FR they’re like the most superior bug types behind Scizor and herracross
@@juniperjahir38 especially with yanmega being post game only; only bug types not really doing it for me are Beautifly and Dustox, although still getting quiver dance is nice. Beautifly is outclassed by Mothim, and as far as “bulky” Quiver Dancer sweepers go, Dustox can at least run Roost and get some recovery going.
Bug types are eating well this gen
@@AnitaNapkin96 Yanma is like Carnivine but post game and is only available by looking through the binoculars in the great marsh, most would use Scyther but it’s typing is like mothim/beautifly much stronger and faster and more defensive however unlike Mothim doesn’t learn quiver dance or really use Special moves so Taht’s why they want Scizor, Scizor is a great pokemon but unlike Wormadam trash cloak it isn’t specially bulky and most Fire type moves are special attack, herracross is a great pokemon just so rare for honey trees and it’s weak to common types, Wormadam has the worst bug typing and best bug typing, you can get Grass/Bug, Ground/bug, and steel/bug depending on the location female Burmy evolves at, if you want a special type Wormadam to hit the hardest with quiver dance use Plant Cloak, if you want a wormadam more physically bulky and offensive with physical attack use the Sandy cloak, if you want a wormadam with the same offensive and defense use the trash cloak (recommend the trash cloak)
@@juniperjahir38 there’s also Vespiquen who I love using despite its pretty bad typing. But having that, Mothim, and Wormadam for Gardenia made her a breeze. Also that 4x resistance to Maylene’s fighting stab is nice.
@@AnitaNapkin96yes the king and queen, I saw a bug type one and Mothim destroyed Cynthia and Lucian whole team
Aw yeah, this was awesome! 19/5, and deathless til the champ. This was real fun to watch!
Waiting for Silph to upload is part of my Sunday routine ☺️ Looking forward to this. I love the steel type and my Boy Empoleon can participate :D
6:45 according to Bulbapedia the current statistic is 84.19% if you include Legendaries and Mythicals. If you exclude them then it’s 90.87%
YES I LOVE THESE STEEL TYPE NUZLOCES
Silph: Plays BD so he can't get the water type legendary. Plays SP so he can't get the steel type legendary.
That's commitment
Pokémon in the show: Pokémon is all about love and teamwork!
Pokémon in the game: I gave my Pokémon some bitter herbs so they hate me.
Your channel’s pokemon vids were so fun to binge. Now I have to eagerly wait every week for great videos. Defiantly worth the wait! Glad I found your channel
Great video. Loved the editing, had me laughing out loud a lot, whilst kicking ass and taking names. Bravo 😭👏🏾
28:09 ... Well... If you're the deity of space and you're summoned to be held in a confined space... Yeah I wouldn't be happy either 😂
Silph, it's ok. You can just tell us you really wanted to use Piplup in the remakes
no deaths til the last battle was Extremely impressive! i think you should try the avatar run i think youd enjoy it
Glad to see I wasn't the only one to think about this challenge. I've started mine and it's cool seeing how you did it
Steel types are such a cool (and powerful) pick for nuzlockes, because there is a lot of good type coverages with there secondary typings.
I do a lot of driving in my career and I listen to your videos like podcasts. You save my journeys every time!
Funnily enough, I finished Brilliant Diamond a few days ago, and I also beat Cynthia using my beloved Bronzong (named Chime)! Also Silph, have you seen the video of the Wormadam sweep on Twitter? Interesting stuff!
Yay a new Nuzlocke thanks silph The video was great
really fun challenge! awesome to see the remakes have some challenge to them
Something interesting about Wormadam-trash: it's one of the best and most popular pokemon in Pokemon Go in some battle formats
Really enjoyed it, per usual! Obvi can do hardcore nuzlockes how it’s enjoyable to you, just after getting wormadam, I feel like having kept prinplup in the back woulda actually made it a steel type nuzlocke, especially since prinplup came in really handy for Jupiter, Larry, Wake, and Maylene. Keep up the awesome work though~
Pokémon Platinum with only rock types would be incredibly hard, as the only Pokémon not 4x weak to fighting before the fighting gym so cranidos, who is both slow and has paper thin defenses.
ground isnt weak to fighting
Really enjoyed this run great video Silph 😃
Ayyy! Always great to see a new Silph video. Great run as always 👌
I'll watch every one of these you want to upload, keep it coming dude, great content ♥️
Cool sponsor, I got the blue whale tee and two different colored long sleeve shirts, thanks for exposing Khimyra to us!
100% need to do a new True Power for Gen 4 based on the post game rematches.
Normal type SP would be a fun one!
I'm currently doing Normal type diamond, and suffered an early loss that's probably going to make me reset.
A wormadam single handedly beating two E4 members is utter insanity. Holy crap Silph.
I kind of want to see a poison type run on Soul Silver/Heart Gold. Also how the fuck is Jirachi not cute enough? Blasphemy.
Jirachi is quite literally one of the single cutest Pokémon in the whole series, and they said it wasn’t “cute enough”. Smfh.
Me on any other day of the week: eh this is fine
When Sunday rolls around: I..have been blessed
Perfect timing! Thanks for making my day a lot better.
Been having a rough week this is a nice thing to see keep up the great work
Lv 14 piplup in the originals was actually pretty easy to do so, I just kept growl and trained for defensive ev's
20:16: Best part of the video by far 😂
Always love you're jokes, it makes these videos that much more enjoyable. 😄
Piplup looks like it was dancing and i fell in love so quickly!
Love the use of Jirachi. Great run
Good job managing affection levels! That win was well deserved!
I think grass run would be cool in BDSP and also this is probably my favorite run of all so far keep it up
I love the inclusion of “Blue” when you first met Cyrus to add to the Iron Man references!
I heard that Vitas reference at 4:14! You can't fool my ears! Especially not for the blelelelele song xD
Respect for Pepper, what an unexpected and cool warrior.
28:33 Okay, I'm sorry, but that angry chibi walk up made me laugh out loud.
Shout out to Vitas at 4:14. Deep cut, man
Water and Steel are my favorite types so i loved these 2 videos.
I almost always skip ads but once I saw the prices my inner penny-pincher I checked em out👀 actually nice looking designs at fair prices when they're also doing their part to be sustainable gets my attention
That salt and pepper line was slick 👌😂😂
Everytime you use the why are you running clip, a jirachi gets to grant a wish. Please allow jirachi to continue to grant wishes.
Would love to see an ORAS run of some kind in the future!
Jirachi put in the work as a good luck charm didn’t it. That was some insane nature luck with the Magnemite and Shieldon (and that Bronzor wasn’t too bad either)
Don’t forget about the MVP Wormadam
I love the way you continually foreshadow Lucario haha
Steel types have long been my fav. Such cool moves, looks, and a wide variety to use! Great run 💯
22:55 "ok bye" to me out🤣🤣
silph, remember that platnum kricketot run, try doing it again in this game. i saw kricketot can have some proper moves this time like struugle bug, also he has pound instead of bide. so good luck with that if you accept
Every video when silph looks at his natures: “Plus speed 👍 aaAANNdd MINUS attack… unbelievable”
I'm surprised you never used Bastiodon's Sturdy + Metal Burst combo, it could've definitely helped against some major threats but the run was amazing nonetheless!
3:31 imagine if Pokemon was just like Harvest Moon where you can say no and the game literally just ends 😂😂😂
I'm kinda new to the hardcore nuzlocke scene. It's quite overdone and oftentimes cutted really quick, making me question if the playthrough is legit.
Yours seem well planned and quite fun, keep it up

Edit: AND THE "ENDGAME" COMMENT BEFORE CYNTHIA WAS GENIUS
Am I the only one who appreciated the random Vitas love in the vid? 😁😁
Pre-Gen 5: 16% of Pokemon don't evolve, so that's 84%
Post-Gen 5: 18% of Pokemon don;t evolve, so that would be 82%
So no, Dawn would be wrong.
Yo I just want you to know that this year has been the hardest yet for me, I turn 17 soon, and last week I reached a sort of just mental breaking point (I'm not going to get into why everything is really hard right now, as this isn't a pity party, but some easier to relate to ones are probably: Junior year of high school and gifted kid coming out of online school with no study habits, existential self aware dread, and childhood trauma) anyway to cut to the chase the amount of stress has made me pretty sick, but that's okay! I've spent the last half a week laying in bed blowing snot and playing the heck out of my old copy of Soulsilver while watching the heck out of your hardcore nuzlocke videos. I can't thank you enough for giving my brain a break, being entertaining and an actually really skilled Pokémon trainer. You've reignited my passion for the game that I thought was completely burned out after completing a sword and shield living dex (never again), and I'm thinking about getting the new remakes - I haven't played the originals. I also seriously want to try a monotype hardcore nuzlocke! I can't spend my time playing pokemon like I have been all the time, but it's good to know that I've finally found something to do when I desperately need a mental break, or on sick days where I can't do much but lay in bed. I think having some more fun challenges might be cool, you could spice it up and do a series, or you could let a randomizer wheel choose two pokemon types and you have to go through a game only using two types instead of only using one, there could be other rules to that to limit encounters, but it could up the challenge if you get lucky, and could provide some big brain plays trying to make two types work the best. Or maybe a limit on what you can spend money on to limit items further (or maybe you pick a game with the best berry system and can only use berries for things like healing and statuses, not items). Idk just ideas, they sound fun but might not be realistic. Have a good one :)
Glad you finally acknowledged that pseudolegendaries have the same stat total as mythicals and a few minor legendaries. I always found it a bit odd when you passed up the base 580 legendaries but were fine with pseudolegendaries. I guess with pseudos, you can make the case that you need to level them up and often can't obtain them until after the eighth Gym for level caps, but it starts to strain credulity in, say, a Steel-type B2W2 run where there are wild Metang already at the level to evolve to Metagross and that's fine but Cobalion isn't .
in the original games, piplup also only has bubble for guaranteed stab. 20 base power makes for a near impossible first gym.
