    Best video I've seen on getting the flame right.

    I've been watching some vids on lead burning/welding; being a newbie to lead welding/burning; your vid explains the getting the flame just right better than some of the seasoned lead workers!

    Gloves...always, a little tip.. try a size 3 nozzle instead of your size 2, and if you hold your gun at an angle the other way pointing into your work you will penetrate through the entire sheet, if it's too hot for you introduce a sideways or circular motion as well. Unfortunately you have just melted lead on top of it.

      That is acknowledged when he says the strength of his weld is in the high dome he builds.

    Not sure what makes you say 'always use code 4 lead for roofing'. Thats not right.We use code 4 for cover flashings but code 5 for many applications such as valleys, gulleys, box gutters and lead flat roofs and its these applications that often need some welding . I hardly ever weld code 4 lead apart from maybe box gutters behind chimneys. also its much easier welding code 5 lead than it is to weld code 4. But nice vid, thanks

    Couple of points James;
    We use mainly Code 5 Lead here in Scotland & anything up to Code 8 on some jobs.
    Do you not 'tack' your but welds & we would give it three runs, burn in & two welds of Herringbone.
    But hey, each to their own. Thanks for sharing.

      I agree with tack welding 1st but code 4 is good enough for nearly every job tbf

      I just tack it and give it 1 run but i go hot and fast not on and off never had a problem with any of my welds don't see the point in 2-3 runs and herringbone shite lol just get it welded

    dont really need a mask unless your working for long hours indoors, but just to be on safe side we have an extraction system.

    Dont be frightened to try something, just seen the end of ur vid, I could easily rip that apart, try an aluminium plate under (thick one) .if you check with HSE they will recomend barrier cream, then gloves. Also overalls and mask, I have worn gloves and masks for the last 7 or 8 years and my lead levels have come right down, I hate overalls though and just cant wear them :(

      The Brit lead sheet manufacturers say it is perfectly safe and you can eat lead breakfast, lunch and dinner no problems.

    We use code 5 on most chimney back gutters. 5 and above on lead valleys/bays
