    Ohio State was moving the ball right down the field on their 3 drives after their opening TD drive, but shot themselves in the foot on each with stupid penalties and stopped themselves. If they can stay out of their own way they can win it all convincingly.

    • @collegefootballwithsam
      @collegefootballwithsam  11 днів тому +4

      Agreed. Those penalties by Henderson and the OL got in OSU's head, and you clearly saw it in the middle 40 minutes of the game. Good on Day, Kelly, and Knowles for never putting their head down and outlasting the other coaching staff. Also, I want to give massive flowers to Donovan Jackson, who I think is the glue that keeps the OL together (He hasn't given up a sack in over a month now).

      @@collegefootballwithsam I feel like Treys penalty and Gee Scott’s penalties were much worse than any penalty by our O-line or defense, considering we were rolling on both those drives before those penalties. Especially Treys penalty, that took us from being on Texas’ side of the field a yard away from FG range, to our own 49 yard line. Had those two penalties not occurred I’m sure Ohio State would’ve stayed on schedule and at least got another 6-10 points out of those two drives, but we’ll never know bc those penalties killed them. I definitely understand what your saying though, Josh Fryar played terribly 90% of the game, as well as Austin Siereveld, and if they want to win it all that will definitely have to be cleaned up come the next game on the 20th.

    There was definitely better calls Sark couldve called on 2nd and Goal, but I understand why he called that HB Sweep Toss. Texas subs in a DT and extra OL and its just stuffed at the one. At that point what went through Sark's mind was Nebraska, Penn State and other games where the Ohio State defense had a goal line stand. Rather than going into the teeth of a Ohio State defense thats also pinching their D Line, get to the outside with good blocks and get in. Caleb Downs just made an excellent play shooting through the gap.

  • @BadAssBuckeye

    If the Buckeyes close this out with a win over ND, they will go down as the best to do it. There will be one blemish* with the other avenged decisively and they will be the only team ever with 5 top 5 wins on one season. The blemish will be easily attributed to a confluence of on-off factors (line injury, missed kicks, injured qb, coaching blunders) and NOT to the players themselves. And so, sum total, given the improbable post-season gauntlet there will be no greater team or legacy. Ever.

    Justin Frye is great. He was missing his two best offensive linemen and managed to field a perfectly good line on the field. We averaged 5.2 yards per carry from our 2 backs. Will was sacked twice and mostly because of coverage. Being mad that Will made a play happen because he had to evade a rush ignores that the line did their job by allowing a rush that Will _could_ evade. Justin Frye may be a lazy recruiter, but in the portal era, I don't think that matters. Eventually kids will realize that he turns decent guys into NFL guys and that'll make recruiting a lot easier for him.

    I could not agree more with your analysis of Ryan Day! Great coach. However, your interpretation of the game stats and then your analysis is dubious. For example if the d line of Texas owned the O line of OSU, why did they have more passing and rushing yards, fewer sacks, and 21 points? The real answer is as average as they are they played well enough.

    Ohio State played a C+ or B- game Friday. They had multiple penalties that ended drives. That is very uncharacteristic of this Ohio State team this year. Id say Texas played one of their better games if not their best game on Friday.
    Texas is one of the best teams in college football. They have a great defensive line and great DBS. I think the offensive line actually played well for Ohio State. Ohio State could have and should have ran the ball more IMO. Right after halftime Ohio State ran the ball right down the field until Howard threw that pick. I think they abandoned the counter run game way to quickly, but they are playing for a Natty so I'll stop being that annoying never happy fanboy. Go bucks!

    To say you think Texas’ defense looked better than OSUs and won in the trenches is sort of ludicrous to me. They forced 2 turnovers and could have forced 4 had Texas not been lucky enough to fall on them. They allowed 14 offensive points. They are the number 1 total defense in the country. When it mattered, OSUs defense got the stop, and I don’t know if you saw the play but Ewers wasn’t going to complete that pass that Sawyer took to the house, so it really didn’t matter. OSUs defense won in every way. They had 4 sacks and 9 TFLs. I’m kinda wondering if we watched the same game at this point. OSUs offense did not have a great night, and give credit to Texas’ D for that, but they caught all the breaks and still lost by double digits, precisely because of the defense of OSU. They had critical drive halting penalties go their way, two fumbles they couldn’t capitalize on, and easily could have caused 4 turnovers that would have made this game seem much further apart than what it ended up being. So you lost me on that one. OSU did not play even close to their best game and still won. In fact, I could argue they played a well below average game and still won. Notre Dames margin for error is so much smaller than OSUs in this final game, because I think OSU has a defense that can literally take over the game and win it for you like they did last night.

      I understand that it comes across as nitpicking, but seriously, Frye held the team back in the same way that special teams held back the Saban dynasty in the 2010s. OL is very important, and if not for some recruits from the previous regime and an elite defense and set of skill positions players, I think some issues there would flare up a lot more. I still picked OSU to win because they are one of the few teams that can compensate for a questionable OL, but it will be very helpful for this unit to improve next season.

  • @JoshJorg44
    @JoshJorg44 9 днів тому

    Sam, I didnt care for how you responded to a comment I made in the live chat during the game. I felt disrespected.
    I made a comment about the referees calling penalties against Ohio State and it felt one-sided. And you could completely dismissed it.
    Yes, there will always be penalties that could be called on either team that are missed, however, when only one team that suffers 4-5 drive ending penalties, and the other doesnt, i dont think its fair.
    Did you know that Ohio state is dead last out of 134 teams at opponents being called for penalties? And there hasn't been a single offensive holding call on an opposing offensive line in now over 17 games for the Buckeyes.
    Yet, the referees wait for the Buckeyes to have a decent play and then they can easily find Holding On Us, but I literally have screenshots of Texas holding the crap out of our defensive line and it hasn't been called the entire year!
    Texas had a few penalties called on them but I don't remember any of them putting them back to like second and 20 or worse like they did for the Buckeyes 4 to 5 times.
    The first penalty that Henderson committed was obviously when they should have called, but then there were two holding penalties called just in time to set up back far enough that it makes offense almost impossible. And then they called another penalty for one of our linemen making a block an 8th of a second after the whistle blew.
    So yeah when it feels like it's all going against your team it makes you feel like maybe the refs have it out for you especially when you know the fact that it never gets called on the opposing team.
    Obviously that doesn't mean that both teams still didn't get away with stuff but it should never be that the penalties are only called on one team and that they are called in such a way that they are Drive killing penalties for only one team and not the other one.
    Anyway, I was just bringing up my opinion on this the other night and you blew me off and basically told me to get out of here.

    What is this guy talking about. Him and his could have shoulda woulda if maybe and butts. He's talking in crazy circles. Fact The Ohio state was ahead of Texas in all positive stats. Fact Ohio State never had to play from behind. Fact at the end of the game Texas was in a position to score. But The Ohio state is one of the hardest teams in the country to score on in the red zone. And they did not sore. The only other fact that I can quote is SCOREBOARD.

    I disagree with the idea that Texas won in the trenches
    Their DL certainly beat Ohio Stare's OL, but I think Ohio State's DL did the same
    I saw this as a fairly even trench performance where both DLs beat both OLs

      @@collegefootballwithsam nope …Ohio State made mistakes and kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties.
      Texas basically hung around because of that. Never did they look better.

  • @jimmy5634
    @jimmy5634 11 днів тому

    This is your worst take in a while. You’ve lost all perspective.
    The O line “sucks”? If it sucks, how was it that Quinshon Judkins scored the Buckeyes second TD from the three on an off tackle run? You blind?
    Texas has one of the highest-ranked defensive lines in the country bud. You darn well knew we were running with two back ups on the O line and we still moved their line off the ball. Just stop.
    The only reason Texas hung around, which is all they did, is because of the many penalties we had on offense.The Buckeyes continually shot themselves in the foot when they were moving the ball.
    Everyone but you evaluated this game as one of Ohio State’s sub par performances and we still won.
    BTW, if, if, if. If Quinn Ewers was this instead of that. Blah, blah blah. Don’t do that, it’s a cop out.
    If the dog hadn’t stopped to pee, he would have caught the rabbit. 😂

    It was hard watching another Ryan day led team choke in the big game
    The d bailed them out
    Key penalties repeatedly and when they were running the ball well in the second half a bad pass call
    It looked like the other 3 big CFP games against Alabama Georgia and Clemson
    I thought he would lose it again but long td at end of half huge mistake by Texas d coordinator and a long td return at end of game bailed him out
