  • @fracturedempiricist
    @fracturedempiricist 7 років тому +9

    The video is a visual allegory of the lyrics. If you don't get it I guess you could think it a bad video, but given that it's not particularly subtle (authority smashes your liberties and hands you a flag) I'm not sure that's an acceptable excuse. The goddess in question is Liberty, who in the 90s was indeed going faster than she's ever gone before, and just look at us now. Mercury Rev were right, it didn't last.

      Sweet. I heard that Levon Helm's daughter done background whistling or singing on either this or one of their other tunes? Think it was this? Would that be her? Super cool anyway. X. ;) Stay safe. And Levon..what a man!

      Garth Hudson played on this album as well

      @@triplesevensix291 It was Opus 40, that's her whistling and singing backing vocals and Levon Helm was on the drums. Gareth Hudson plays tenor and alto sax on Hudson's Line. I think Rick Danko was supposed to appear on the follow up album All is Dream but sadly passed away.
      Deserter's Songs just feels like a long lost album The Band forgot to release. Stunning work..
