That didn’t need to be censored really, it was done much more tactfully than most other shows in the seventies would have done and the concerns of G&M would still cause a talking point now.
Exactly. The thing is I watched the US version (The Ropers) the other day. It was made about 3 years later and is pretty much a remake, except there is no black child in it at all. It would be interesting to know the reason for the omission. Perhaps the makers decided that part of the episode wasn't funny.
Says a lot about the character of George rather than the show itself (Mildred scolding him as she takes him out the door) - and Mildred's reaction merely reflects the unlikelihood / the unusual event of the baby having some obvious African ancestry - note that doesn't mean they think the baby to be inferior in any way: a baby is a baby, a human is a human.
The film version of Man About The House has a cameo by Rudolph Walker from Love Thy Neighbour and George refers to him by the racist nickname in the show, not realising Walker isn't in character. I think the Roper character wasn't a racisr, just rather thick.
None of this was racist it’s just showing up people’s first then rapid second reactions to a situation they aren’t ready for or expecting Pretending that no one noticed or reacted serves no body well. As old man steptoe reacts to his son pontificating about the local Asian population “ well at least i talks to em, rather than just talking about them”
Theres a scene in fools and horses where Del pinches his finger , that was cut out, I will have to ask the Mrs to see if she would have been offended !
Thing is, this what saying that race didn't matter so why was it cut???? I hate the way everyone is terrified of offending anyone now. The world of entertainment is just dull and pointless.
They also cut a bit in series 1 episode 5. Mildred tells George he’s got an appointment with a Dr. White and in the scene where George goes to the doctor he notices he isn’t white.
Thanks for letting me know. Not watched it for awhile. They do repeat the series on a regular basis. Last time I saw this episode it was not cut and that was about three years ago. So what has changed since then? Why is it now cut? Makes you wonder ....
I think they were trying to make a joke. Back then there was still a lot of prejudices about race. Etc. Nobody would expect a white woman to have a black baby.
Being a 40 year old brown geezer in my humble opinion i don't see anything wrong with that at all plus the quality and authenticity of T.V. back then is 100 times better than the nonsense we see today including modern attitudes, societies and mentality. People just get offended over nothing these days.....🙏🤎
Worlds gone mad now

*I don't see what all the bloody fuss it ?*
There was no need to cut this wasnt racist its a fact
Each to their own,it's natural law of nature, every race agrees on this one, except Leftists.
Babygirl looked really wonderful....but why did anyone cut scene,?
That’s her biological baby. The father’s unknown and long gone.
It's an adopted baby. That's the point.

That’s what they cut. It just faded to that next scene.
Not cut in the episodes on YT.
@@grissom2023 ITV3 have seemingly been doing their own edits
So you can't use 'black', but 'black' lives matter, am I missing something here....
Why have a non-white baby in the first place? Or was a reason for doing that? A white baby would’ve gone completely unnoticed.
Because its about adoption and potentially getting a child that doesn't look like you.
Why was it censored
So as not to be offensive to other racial groups in the UK
Well they are both right....it is black
Exactly.
Don’t use the word ‘it’
Why use a black baby in the first place. And then making a big fuss about the skin colour.

@@knobbyfan7521 yes mate you're absolutely right.👍
