  • This video features shots of downtown Indianapolis. It also features shots of the Indiana National Bank building under construction and a shot of the White River retaining wall. The Water Works Company of Indianapolis was formed in 1869 by Jas O. Woodruff, and received a franchise from the city in 1870. City legislation passed that granted the company authority "to construct, maintain and operate water works in the City of Indianapolis with proper structures, machinery, reservoirs, embankments, aqueducts, pipes and conduits to supply said city and its inhabitants with pure, filtered and wholesome water. It was sold to the Indianapolis Water Company in 1881, who took over the full "rights and duties" of the Water Works Company of Indianapolis.

:10 thats the Indiana Nation Bank Tower (now Regions tower) nearing completion, that would put that bit of film about 1970.

It must be late 1967 at the very earliest, as there's a 1968 Chevrolet in it.

Oh that's super neat. Watching Indy in the 60's and comparing is interesting. There were no tall buildings.

Yes there were - L S Ayres was 11 stories high and they were building the new City County Building at 0:11.

City County Building at 0:11 - I remember that being built. And this is before the EPA air quality rules and there were a lot more huge smoke stacks belching out pollutants.

@@HoosierGarage I worked at INB in the tower in the early 1970's and I think you are right about it being the bank building instead of the CC building.

@@HoosierGarage that’s correct…..and since the INB tower didn’t open until 1970…..this film is hardly from 1963.

This can't be 1963. The Indiana National Bank Building at 00:32 was completed in 1970.

Very wrong on the year of filming. Some of the buildings weren't even started then and there are late 1960's and early 1970's vintage cars in the film. The City County building construction started in 1962 I believe and appears to be completed.
