Since the year 1995 my oldest son and I watch this movie in early August celebrating the start of another NCAA football year. Such a great story and movie to celebrate America's number one sport, college football!
Thanks for posting this.....one of the BEST sports movies of all time. My late father was at the game when they filmed the "Rudy Bowl" segment at halftime of the Notre Dame/BC match up in 1992, so I have a sentimental attachment to the film...he was the one somewhere in the stands chanting "Rudy Rudy"...perhaps you heard him(lol)? Even that aside, it was still a great story and brings new meaning to the phrase "rooting for the little guy". Thanks again!
The story of Rudy isn't just about him playing...it was about how he overcame the odds of not being the biggest, smartest, or most athletic and succeeding in his goal of getting into Notre Dame and being apart of the football team....that is no joke
Rudy is one of the best sports movie ever. One of my favorites of all time too. I have always wanted to see the actual footage of him getting in the game against Tech.
You know, as a young man playing football for my high school team, after years in which I was told I just couldn't make it through football, I remember watching Rudy...and...it kinda brings a tear to my eye. My parents have always been supportive, unlike Rudy's, though. Either way, the movie "Rudy" is my inspiration, it is why I still play, even though I'm not too great. Because I can play.
Yeah i agree. First time i saw that sack i screamed for like a solid minute, thats the best possible thing he could have accomplished in his few plays.
Although......Dan Devine in the movie says the line that always gives me goosebumbs, 'Nobody........and i mean nobody.....comes into our house and pushes us around.'
There’s a gentleman in Colorado name Mike Naughton, owns a Ford dealership here but was on that team with Rudy, big Mike is what they called him. That whole era of Notre Dame football was incredible and they were all in inspiration, but Rudy showed people that it’s all in your heart that counts in what you can do, I always wanted to meet this guy!
Yeah, The idea of dressing Rudy up for the final home game was in fact Devine's idea. The actual Dan Devine wrote a letter of protest to the producers of the film on how the jerseys scene never happened.
I never saw the real footage. Yes, it is different than the movie portrays- but I got the same goosebumps as I did from the movie. Nice job Northwest! I love how you incorporated the musical score in this vid. I only wish there was video of "The Real Carry Off". Loved it!
I read that Coach Devine was exactly against Rudy playing and that it was created for dramatic effect in t he movie. In Devine's autobiography (GREAT BOOK by the way) he states this and how he was hurt when he saw how he was portrayed in the movie. I saw an interview with Rudy a few years back and he confirmed that Dan Devine did not want to stop him from playing and was actually quite in favor of it.
I am. The clip is missing all of the fancy camera angles and slo-mo effects of the film, but there's still this runty 5'7" 165 wlb 24 year old kid with dyslexia from a poor working class family of 14 kids who works his ass off for years trying to overcome a learning disability and a lot of people telling him he can't have his dream and he doesn't let it go. He was quoted in the university newspaper as saying it was his dream to be able to play for Notre Dame even if it was only for a second..
Yah clipboard, you're right on the money. It wasn't a movie about a guy who was told, all his life, that he wasn't big, smart, fast, or good enough, but who went out and poured his heart and soul into something anyway, because he had a dream that no one could take away from him. It wasn't a movie about how hard it was or how he worked hard enough to make his dream come true. It wasn't a movie about the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. It was "a whole movie" about a missed block.
I don't care if it was only a assisted tackle ,a half tackle or whatever. Rudy's only dream was to run out of that tunnel and play just ONE play for ND in order to be credited as part of the team and HE DID IT ! He had so many disadvantages but his heart, dedication and hard work won the respect of alot of people and made his dream came true . That's what is true , and the whole point of of the movie and it's good enough for me .
Kycowboy, Rudy didn't just touch his ankle. He got there first and it was his sack. Not like the exaggerated Invincible play where the main character drilled the return man, fell down, grabbed the ball, and ran 40 yards for the touchdown (instead of hitting him right near the endzone and catching it off a bounce right next to the endzone).
I find it so hard to believe that he was never started until the last game, last play of his career. I think he could have played allot more than just that game and 2 plays. Short sighted coaches I think.
i agree, 75 cards. it was an incredible feat that Rudy accomplished something so great. by the way, i accidently thumbs downed your comment because i thought you were replying to presidentjh about his playing football
No, that would have been stupid. That sack was huge for him and it's more than enough. A fumble returned for TD would only spoil the movie because it is too much unrealistic. It's the best this way.
oh and actually the scene in the movie where the team tells the coach to let Rudy dress in their place is based on true events.....it just wasn't the whole team that did it...it was just a couple of the players
thank you nexxogen thats exactly my point. if rudy ONLY had the sack, it should only be KEPT as the sack and nothing more. the preservation to the integrity of the actual game that occured must remain intact; or else it'll look like another cliche disney movie.
"ya cant man .... that would be falsifying what happened in the football game" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well, they already did falsify it a bit. The movie showed the final ND touchdown as a long bomb pass when it was really a short goal-to-go run. They also showed Rudy's sack as a solo unassisted sack when the D-lineman actually helped bring down the QB. However, when you look at the sack on the clip above, you'd see that Rudy pretty much had the guy down on his own.
I like how this moment wasn't a fake manufactured feel-good play... The guy worked his ass off to get on the scout team and gets a sack against a team still trying to play.
congrats want a ribbon. so what you had some football player as your coach. rudy is one of the best notre dame players of all time and will always be one of the best
Loved the movie Rudy, but for those who watch movies and fail to dig deaper, they will forever view Dan Devine in a negative light. I hate that and it seems like a black cloud each time I see a re-run of this movie.
I’m a year late but yeah i agree, my idea of Devine was already tarnished as a packers fan but this movie briefly made me hate him as a person instead of as a coach, ain’t really like that tho.
what a joke...the guy didn't even make the tackle, the defensive tackle closest to the screen is the guy that actually brought him down, rudy just pressured him
Sounds like you're just a little jealous that he proved everyone wrong about himself. He gave at least 10 times the heart and effort of everyone else. And he had been playing ever since he was a kid. Other than plalying for years and working his butt off, I guess he seems to be lacking experience. (Sarcasm).
Th movie was far more entertaining than the real thing. I should never have watched this clip. Now that I know what really happened the movie doesnt seem as good anymore. :-(
my dad played for ND a few years after rudy and apparently, after the whole sack shit, he was really cocky and walked around like he was the fucking man and was an asshole
Since the year 1995 my oldest son and I watch this movie in early August celebrating the start of another NCAA football year. Such a great story and movie to celebrate America's number one sport, college football!
Damn movie still makes me cry. He just worked so hard to get what he wanted...I'll never understand how people don't find that inspirational.
Rest in peace Tom Klos Sr. Thank you for everything grandpa and thank you for your love of Notre Dame football.
Thanks for posting this.....one of the BEST sports movies of all time. Thanks for the footage, that was great.
Thanks for sharing this. I just watched the movie. And this clip was the icing on the cake. Sweet!
MY grandpas friend was friends w rudy!!!
he said it was the most amazing thing ever!
Agreed...I'm an Alabama fan and it is one of the best sports movies of all time
For him to get to play and sack (tackle) the QB makes this BAMA fan smile, Mr Rudy I'm 6'4' and I look up to u Sir!
i'm 30 years old and just saw rudy for the first time on AMC. great movie.
The story of Rudy isn't just about him playing...it was about how he overcame the odds of not being the biggest, smartest, or most athletic and succeeding in his goal of getting into Notre Dame and being apart of the football team....that is no joke
But 95% of it was made up
Well said!
Rudy is one of the best sports movie ever. One of my favorites of all time too. I have always wanted to see the actual footage of him getting in the game against Tech.
was listening to one of the cobe's interviews, and watched the movie which brought me here. ty for the footage, pal.
You know, as a young man playing football for my high school team, after years in which I was told I just couldn't make it through football, I remember watching Rudy...and...it kinda brings a tear to my eye. My parents have always been supportive, unlike Rudy's, though.

Because I can play.
Yeah i agree. First time i saw that sack i screamed for like a solid minute, thats the best possible thing he could have accomplished in his few plays.
Wow, he really did record a sack. Way to go, Rudy!
Although......Dan Devine in the movie says the line that always gives me goosebumbs, 'Nobody........and i mean nobody.....comes into our house and pushes us around.'
Awesome! Daniel “ Rudy” Ruettiger, so much heart! He is an inspiration to many to this day!
There’s a gentleman in Colorado name Mike Naughton, owns a Ford dealership here but was on that team with Rudy, big Mike is what they called him. just watched the movie on dish - AWESOME!!!
I loved it, great movie....
exactly im 4'10 7th grade and it gives me the same feeling too
Cole Domer how tall are you now?
davidt52421 lll do you one better how short are you now?
he was recorded in the ND books with one play under his name, and recorded with a sack. I believe for 7 yards.
Your video description is complete win.
can you upload a version without the music. I want to see it as it was originally broadcast.
a 1/2 sack is good enough for me!
One of my favs but it’s VERY loosely based on a true story. But still a great story.
awesome
Yes, he did the radio play by play of that game.
Holy shit look at him go!
this is a song from the actual Rudy soundtrack called tryouts. Good stuff!
I am. Crazy how small refs were back then. Now they're as big as the players
So true. Man, I love this movie.
Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
Yah clipboard, you're right on the money. I just figured it out he never hesitated
on the movie everybody was shouting "RUDY!" did they do this back then?
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy...
Little piece of trivia, Steve Raible was a receiver for Georgia Tech.
I don't care if it was only a assisted tackle ,a half tackle or whatever. Rudy's only dream was to run out of that tunnel and play just ONE play for ND in order to be credited as part of the team and HE DID IT ! I thought Rudy got credit for that sack they didn’t even mention him
lol...you finished watching it on AMC also...
It's still a great story!

i lovve rudy
BEST SPORTS MOVIE EVER !!!!!
Certainly one of the very best!! Cannot see it too often..
it's from the rudy soundtrack "tryouts"
RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!
yeah thats why it was in the movie ruty told the story himself
dude i play QB in high school. so thanks.
just had a man cry.......going to watch the rudy now lol
lol how is the movie about this one play?? Have you even seen the movie?
rudy was great movie!!
Is that Don Criqui doing the announcing?
Paul Mashack they was my impression, having grown up listening to him on WOR Radio in NYC
i agree, 75 cards. it was an incredible feat that Rudy accomplished something so great.
by the way, i accidently thumbs downed your comment because i thought you were replying to presidentjh about his playing football
No, that would have been stupid. That sack was huge for him and it's more than enough. A fumble returned for TD would only spoil the movie because it is too much unrealistic. It's the best this way.
my uncle was the center for georgia tech in that game
Rudy got help with that sack.
Actually it looks like he missed the tackle and the QB was finished off by #70-something. Still a great story.
oh and actually the scene in the movie where the team tells the coach to let Rudy dress in their place is based on true events.....it just wasn't the whole team that did it...it was just a couple of the players

I agree it is a great story.... Loved the movie ....Notre Dame...Not so much..
"ya cant man .... that would be falsifying what happened in the football game" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yeah, but it wasn't the whole crowd like in the film.
Who's the wild man now!?
I like how this moment wasn't a fake manufactured feel-good play... The guy worked his ass off to get on the scout team and gets a sack against a team still trying to play.
congrats want a ribbon. so what you had some football player as your coach. rudy is one of the best notre dame players of all time and will always be one of the best
Not sure if you are being sarcastic, or just your normal moronic self...sorry
@@rustyduet9711 Buddy this comment was 10 years ago LMAO.
What can I say. For some reason, your comment caught my eye, didn't know what to make of it. Just seemed odd. Glad you got a laugh. Peace
@@rustyduet9711 All good, I think the greatest ND player would either be Tim Brown or Alan Page.
I'd give him an assist or a half-sack.
ya cant man .... that would be falsifying what happened in the football game.
they still carried him off the field.
Looks like half of a sack to me.
that was so uneventful
my coache's friend played in this game and said rudy never stepped on the field but i dont kno good movie anyways
Rudy was great motivation film, should be mandatory 3rd grade education
That's solid tackle... not an ankle pick.
Very cool moment, though I love when people facing Notre Dame now have signs that say "Rudy Sucks"
nickerson high school in nickerson kansas
mad respect for rudy and his efforts for ND, but come on, he was soooo offsides on that play
Loved the movie Rudy, but for those who watch movies and fail to dig deaper, they will forever view Dan Devine in a negative light. I hate that and it seems like a black cloud each time I see a re-run of this movie.

what a joke...the guy didn't even make the tackle, the defensive tackle closest to the screen is the guy that actually brought him down, rudy just pressured him
that sucks. now that movie just fells like a waste. he only touched the guys ankle. barely a sack.
RUDY WAS OFFSIDES!!!!
TheRamblinReck he wasn't. He does not look offsides one bit. Watch the actual video.
pshhhh it was an assisted sack.... GO BLUE!!
wow thats really something 2 make a fucking movie about?
Me too :D
2 different ones. I run the spread, but our other QB runs the power I.
rudy is the shit!
you cant be serious?
Manti Teo carried his girlfriend off the field every game.
The REAL question is....Who is 44 on Georgia Tech ??? . He's the bonehead that whiffed on his pass block on Rudy setting up all the movie hysteria.
Sounds like you're just a little jealous that he proved everyone wrong about himself. He gave at least 10 times the heart and effort of everyone else. And he had been playing ever since he was a kid. Other than plalying for years and working his butt off, I guess he seems to be lacking experience. (Sarcasm).
Just watched the entire movie on hulu-dot-com for free. Impressive. (Watch it, you might tear up.)
Th movie was far more entertaining than the real thing. I should never have watched this clip. Now that I know what really happened the movie doesnt seem as good anymore. :-(
are you really that jealous? I guarantee you never accompished anything like he did.
it's not about the play or plays he got in. Did you even watch the movie? you don't sound too smart. Who cares if you played or not.
He turned out to be a fraud after football...ran a pump and dump stock scheme and got busted in 2011
your not even close to right about that at all
my dad played for ND a few years after rudy and apparently, after the whole sack shit, he was really cocky and walked around like he was the fucking man and was an asshole
Thatcher Roads - doubtful.
