I loved how this was set up like a play. Michael J. Fox was always talented from his films and this show. This special episode though....WOW...what a performance. He timely changes his emotions and tone of humor to sadness in such an incredible way that you really saw how great of a performer he really is.
As a fellow Believer, I agree. It started to lose me with the whole "maybe God is a dolphin one day, and a Wall Street broker the next" train of thought...but keeping in mind the context of this scene (Alex working through how he sees God, and why), I think the scene is great.
I'm sitting here watching this and thinking _Why_ did they NOT have a Spider-Man movie with *this guy* as Peter Parker in the 80s and 90s? The balance of humor, warmth, and sensitivity would have been awesome on _s_ many levels!
Credit also goes to the people who wrote those words and MJF's talent to perform them. If not for Parkinson's starting to appear in early 90's who knows what roles he may have gotten.
This was unbelievable for a sitcom. Still funny. Completely serious. Dramatic. Comedic. No show ever did it better. No actor ever did it better. Best show of my lifetime.
I didn't see this when the show first aired.....I'm kind of glad I didn't, because it has amazing depth of meaning now! seems like you have walked with this gentle, benevolent God all these years - (and you have made a lot of money 😊) Blessings to you
I had never watched this show before one day turned on the tv for background noise and this episode came on and I was so intrigued and when he is talking to Greg made me sad but this since made me cry cause I’ve always had a complicated relationship or with the idea of if I believed and he said exactly what I have always thought
No one will wver see this xomment cause dont think anyones watching this clip anymore but just watched the entite part 1 and 2 of this and as a 10 year old at the time i dont remmebr understanding it. But as a 45 year ild im crying wathcing it. The only thing i can compare it to on a sitcom as far as making me cry is the fresh prince seen when wills dad leaves and him and uncle phil have the exchange
I am not a believer in God. But I believe in love and I believe in humanity being capable of committing terrible atrocities though to beautiful acts of selflessness. I can see why people want to believe in God and in many cases I believe that without them even knowing they really aren't as certain in their faith as they think. One thing I am sure of if there is a God I am not going to hell because I never believed there was. If God is all loving then why would he let unbelievers go to Hell. Why even test humanity? Why not just provide evidence so everyone can believe without having to torture their mind and debate their own emotions? There is no sense in God not revealing his existence. You then have everyone believe and hopefully everyone would act more Christian in their ways. For those of you who are of Christian faith I wish you happiness and joy and love in life and for your sake I hope you are right. For those who are atheists, we are not necessarily bad people. We have questioned and considered and tried not to let irrational thought sway us. Whether I am wrong or right at least I am honest with myself. I too love this clip and the sincerity of MJF performance is powerful. Yet decades on and this world is in a mess. Religion on so many occasions has proven to be a source for evil. be it sexual child abuse in the churches, suicide bombings, terrorist attacks, money laundering,...so much horror has been revealed. One can just ignore and deny this, or one can be brave and acknowledge the world is in a dire state and h try to make it better.
@@pettykittyfam No I don't because no such place exists, You emoji is rather distateful for someone whom I assume identifies as a Christain. Fortunate for you as you can go around doing commiting sins and then just pray for forgiveness - how fortunate. Good luck with that😈
I think in this case, it was genuine faith. What's going on NOW in the right-wing churches, especially in regards to politics (like that surrounding Trump) - THAT, my friend, IS Republican Christian propaganda!!
One of the most well written and equally well delivered pieces I ever saw on a sitcom.

Same here. And I'm in tears watching this!

@@Thompsongs does this have anything to do with Greg dying or no...? Just discovering the series now, I'm curious.
This was one of the best episodes of the show
This was one of the best episodes of any show period...Brilliantly written, brilliantly acted.
THE definitive Alex P Keaton, Michael J Fox moment.
You mean one of the best sitcom episodes in the history of television..
This was so good. It's arguably the best episode of the series.
My God,this guy's a brilliant actor.
That whole storyline and MJ Fox's acting were amazing. The writing, the acting, the directing...some of the best television ever created.
I love his take on this, God is real.

He's too short to play Spiderman.

@@wilburmcbride8096I’m 99% sure you’re being sarcastic. But just in case: Teenage Peter Parker/Spider-Man is about 5’8” and 140ish lbs.

Refresh my memory, since it’s been 35 years since this show went off the air. Did we ever see Greg on any episode before this?
