  • New Horizons RV builds custom RV's to the owners specifications. They build their frame in-house instead of using "commodity" frames. That way you get a frame engineered specifically for your custom 5th wheel. This video provides a quick overview of the frame and some of the running gear. Looking for a manufacturer willing to implement your ideas for a 5th wheel RV? Take a close look at New Horizons!

Very nice. Just one thing I would change. I would add fish plates from the hitch frame to the front uprights to the lower deck. But that's me. I tend to over build. I would also add gussets to the front hitch beam to the side box beams.

I thought the same thing. BTW, what’s a “fish plate “.

@@edgewood2441 A fish plate is a flat plate of steel that is as thick or thicker than the frames thickness. Twice as long as the frame is wide. If your frame is 10 inches wide between the upper and lower flanges than the fish plate has to be 20 inch by 10 inch.

Jack, most units I’ve seen have a step up platform on the upper deck, why? And... if you want to use a DC to DC converter, is it possible to hide the cable inside the frame? (Never mind on my 2nd question.)

Jack ! may I ask why still the 5th chassis and not a full semi trailor example spacecraft etc, its got to be stronger allthough heavier I presume but with the increased class 8 semi towing these RV s would it not be less hassle , thinking of the increased use of full semi rigs overall its slowly becoming the norm to get away from the normal pick-ups style of old.

If you want to pay for the heavier frame go for it. It’s all about the money. You get what you pay for.

Jack, are the gear packs and the Jack shaft between them accessible for maintenance?

    • @JackMayer

There is no real maintenance required. If you break a sheer bolt you can access that. You can also access the gears if you break a tooth. Both may require removing a panel under the rig. I've done both on my personal rigs with no issue. But in general there is little reason to do that in normal situations.

Hello Ken, are you an engineer? I’m not but, I’m a chassis builder. I part time build Drag racing cars, also I’m an aerospace welder for 15 yrs and I’ve been welding for 35 yrs as well. It’s a pretty good frame. But I think a lot of the welds could be better and, a lot of the brackets need to have doubler plates on them but, again they are a custom RV company sky is the limit. I’m not trying to be that guy.
