Rome Total War - 31K and CWB Rules Explained!

- In todays Rome Total War video, I thought it would be good to explain what are 31K and CWB rules are. Often when you go online, people will say the rules of the battle are either 31K or CWB. I often get into arguments about what the rules stand for, so to save myself further disagreements I have put together a mini video to help educate people . Feel free to use this video as a reference, if any idiot ever tells you that the maximum amount of chariots you can bring on CWB is 2!!! Send them to this video!!!! (AHHHAARGGHHH!!!)

Arguably most needed video for our community nowadays; I already knew rules but it's very useful to send this to some kids which always know better. Good job.

Great vid. I'm a single player "player" of total war, however I'm intrigued by the online scene but have only played a few games against friends. Thanks for the video biscs and which rule set would you recommend and why?

I think cwb is a good basic skill to pick up. But 31K is quicker to learn and i find it more fun.

If it was a competition then I would agree. But we both know we have played many cwb and 31k rule games on other maps etc.

Is it just me that both modes seem to have strong bias towards rome, and greece and elephant free factions with good variety of infantry, and makes factions like Scythia extremely weak due to being forced to rely on infantry with no good infantry, and having all your options filled with mutually exclusive ones where other armies are allowed variety. Some factions like Greece and Rome feel almost know harm they have good redundancy of best units and can do quite well within the established cavalry limits. With this the only good thing that carthage would get to make them stand out is sacred band. Rome however still gets to use maximum number of Urban cohorts that get spammed to infinity and are far more powerful than any of the limited forces on other factions.
Yeah - I'm sure the 31k rules were geared around the exact Roman army example shown.. Some of the greeks can be competitive like this but the cav, berzerker and ele limits fuck up most of the others. But it seems the rules was never designed with any of these factions in mind.

Nah, every bloody time I host a CWB free-for-all, even when I explain the rules and ask if everyone's understood, some wanker brings elephants or ten urban cohorts or something.
Even pros like Biscuits break Pre Marian rules :/
