  • Christian Nonfiction is the number one bestselling nonfiction genre on Amazon and has been for many years. But not all Christian books are the same. This is a breakdown of the three major categories of Christian nonfiction and a discussion of which one might be right for you.

I enjoyed your clear and accurate delineation of the types of Christian non-fiction. You asked what books have most influenced me. Stepping Heavenward is a book I read very early on when, to my surprise as a well educated student of science with lots of religious baggage, I was opening my mind and heart to a biblical faith in the Abrahamic God. I like how you describe him that way; it clears a lot of things up. Recently I have become obsessed with Corrie Ten Boom and her books that illuminate a type of practical and courageous faith that gives me hope that I too can prepare for possible tough times and have my life count for more than just keeping myself and my loved ones comfortable until we die. People tell me I should write a book because of life circumstances and they like a blog I keep, documenting a current cancer journey. Who knows, with guidance from people like you, I might be able to write down something that would be of value to someone...someday. Thanks!

I love Corrie Ten Boom. What a pure faith she had. I’m so glad you liked the video and I’m sure your writer’s voice will reveal itself when you’re ready to write your story.

Are you surprised Christian books are the bestselling nonfiction genre? Which category do you think you’d like to write?

Thanks for sharing! The books I've recently picked up are 'You Are The Girl For The Job' by Jess Connolly (I'm about half-way through) and Christ in Crisis (which I have yet to dig into). The first one caught my eye because I'm seeking motivation from other Christians to encourage me that my book idea is something that needs to be written. And given the subject of my book, which is learning how to survive in today's world as a Christian amidst all the rioting and looting, I figured the second book would therefore help me see Christ is working through all the crisis.

Thank you as I listen to the types of non Christian book style.
My upcoming book in Fall/2020 is definitely an inspirational book.
Just when I thought the Lord had forsaken me he was always there.
    Thanks.

Thanks for posting! My agent tells me that most Christian literature that makes it to publication still does not make money. After watching your video, I suspect some money losing books do not fit cleanly into the sub genres you describe. (I might have done a couple of things differently if I had watched this first…) Thanks again; very well presented.

Yeah it doesn’t come immediately to mind for many nonfiction authors. But the audience is definitely there

I’m a little late in the program of commenting but I loved the information, I love the inspirational nonfiction, I read Joel Osteen I Declare in 2014 and it forever changed my life, and Joyce Meyers too ... btw I wasn’t a reader until I picked up that book.

I want to write a Christian Non-Fiction book about the last 10 years of my life, that include a double murder, myself going through cancer and surviving it, my mountain climbing (I am an alpine climber) and some more details about how God kept me going through it all. What advice can you give me about something like this. I am not in the US, but in South Africa. I do believe that my faith has helped me to get through all of these issues, and I want to get an idea of the outline if there is anything that you can recommend.

Hello Engela, have you considered writing a memoir? You have some really interesting topics and so my best advice to you is to find one strong theme to write to: is it your faith? is it your battle with cancer? is it grieving and surviving a double murder? is it how mountain climbing was your salve during difficulties in your life? I am also South African and have a great love for the country even though I don't live there anymore. I hope that feedback has helped you.

I am surprised that Christian books are the bestselling non-fiction genre. I wrote a memoir about grappling with my faith after the difficult death of my mother. So memoir is definitely my category, but I think inspirational is another category that appeals to me.

Thanks for the video! My favorite Christian non fictions are Roy Masters "The Hypnotic States of America" and "A Gravity Driven Universe"
I'm writing a book named after a biblical discovery I made I call "The Backward Walk". I carefully documented the gospel main points touching the main points in reverse in the OT from Moses to Adam with a real spiritual and prophetic and healing spin in it.. Not only has it never been written about but an atheist said "That's powerful stuff. You should write a book about it before someone steals your idea and gets all the credit for it".
My life circumstances and synchronicities surrounding the discovery mirrored the prophet Daniel. I am rewriting with a DE but I wonder if I am ruining it and I don't know how to keep my audience in mind or who they are. There's a lot about healing, and understanding mysteries and metaphysics. Sometimes I have so many ideas I feel lost. I'm doing a little at a time trying to document and or shape conflict and resolution.in my manuscript. Thanks again!
