Great video and drawings. My son’s handle bar switch broke off at the wires just where you pointed out. This confirms that I don’t need to replace it and he can just switch the setting under the seat. Thanks!
Great video, I’ve been struggling a bit to understand the reasoning behind a 10 position switch and only using a few positions on it.. I’ve had mine installed from day 1 when I bought the bike new, and afterwards seen the trial tech one with 3 positions,and was a bit disappointed with Ktm. I’ve been wondering since how trialtech achieved it. Now I’m thinking of building my own 3 positions switch for the handlebar . Cheers man 👍👍
Cheers, i wish i knew about this before i purchased my switch, no way would i have allowed myself to be ripped off again, hang on i own a KTM of course i will be ripped off again. The pot is just some generic switch that they have fitted, very little effort and thought went into this assembly, why not give you all three modes, just typical of KTM, anyway all the best.....
I'm confused. Switch position two on the ktm switch maps to whatever map you set on the switch under the seat. Switch position one is just a standard map, not any of the 0-9 positions on the under seat switch?
Thanks for this detailed video. It made me decide to build my own switch since my 2010 690enduro r has 4 modes with the same switch underneath the seat: 1= soft, 2= Advanced, 3 to 9= Standard, 0= Poor fuel quality.

I tried immediatly to verify your explanation and I used a 14,55 k ohm resistance (today is sunday and in my garage there isn't a 15k ohm !!), on my exc 500 2012, but nothing happened. I thought to set the rain mode but instead the map is the same (standard I think). I plugged the resistance directly into the connector showed in your video.....
Not sure this switch works on your bike so resistance maybe different. Also you need the correct map in to start with. You need to make up a 15k in series. As said though is video is jist food for thought.
So, could I in theory, get an on off switch, and plug it to the white connector under the tank, and set the potentiometer to rain mode, if I only wanted Stock and mild power modes to choose from? Doesn't the connector from under the seat disconnect the potentiometer from the circuit and turn the bike into Stock power mode only?
@@TinkerBod I accidentally mixed the 2 stroke and 4 stroke map switching systems. Couldn't I just mimic the KTM handlebar switch just by making extension between Ecu loop and the potentiometer, and put a switch of my own in between the extensions wires?
Although it may physically fit you need the correct map in it, I dont know where you are but i phoned up the dealer and he said not all bikes have the map to suit this switch. I can defo say that it does make a difference not top end or performance as such but how the power is delivered it does for sure. Im not sure but would you want one on a xc?
@@TinkerBod I'm on the west coast U.S., and honestly I cant see me needing it for my type of riding. The bike has plenty of power, and I've actually taken a little grunt out of it by adjusting my power valve. I ride tight technical single track trails and before I adjusted the power valve it felt like the bike was trying to rip my arms off. And it has a Rekluse clutch, I've done the suspension, tires and a few other odds and ends and I have it right where I want it. Its perfect.
@@TinkerBod Its a single button on the left side of my bars, its spring loaded, as in you press it once it stays down, press it again and it pops up. I took my bike out on the street and got on the pipe HARD and hit it, nothing happened. I am curious though who installed it and why.
Seems like a home job, but to get a bike to change between maps you have to do it at idle, dont touch anything wait 10 seconds, press the switch wait 10 seconds and off you go, thats what the KTM instructions say for my switch. West coast you luck chap, all the best...

You either have an open circuit, or a resistor or another resistor. So in theory yes a switch which is either open circuit or a resistor

Yes in theory if im following you correctly sure, but its hard to say without seeing it.
How can launch control then be activated without any switches?
This bike pre-dates launch/traction control. Sorry can't help you.
Switch the map switch back and forth until your fi ligut starts blinking then your in launch control until you snap the throttle.
I bought a used KTM 300xc and it has a button, the previous owner said it doesn't do anything.
