    I'm a middle-aged, former Harley Davidson rider; not an enduro racer. This bike is marvelous! For the same amount of money that Harley Davidson wanted for their prehistoric, Road King Special; I got a bike that is a superior machine all around. Better suspension, better brakes, more torque, more horsepower, more capability and more technology. The GS and KTM crowds can have their fun off road; lifting their fallen bikes and repairing or replacing broken bits. I will enjoy effortlessly cruising on the roadways, taking in the scenery; and taking advantage of what the Tiger 1200 does better than the other bikes, instead of focusing on shortcomings that have no bearing on my riding style or abilities.

    Great review Bruce.. After riding the GS and the 2020 Tiger I was on the fence about what to do. I started 30 years ago on Sport-bikes and then Harley's for the past 20 years. Now that I'm in my 50's I want to do some longer trips. I settled on the 2020 Tiger 1200 Desert Edition largely because of what you said about the comfort, smoothness and because the wife is usually always with me. A happy pillion makes for a better trip. Your review wasn't overly critical, it was pretty much spot on and actually convinced me to buy the Tiger. Glad that you recognize that everyone is looking for something different out of a bike. Tell the boys in Hinckley that you sold a bike for them in Georgia (USA). Keep living it up!

    Hi Bruce,
    Many thanks for getting back. Glad to see that you didn’t have an off, though you obviously had a fright.
    I too had a scare - due to my own stupidity/carelessness - and it was that incident that prompted me to get rid of my beautiful baby.
    I realise that now I acted in haste, and should have given the matter much more consideration, the bike was not a year old, but selling it cost me a lot of money, as the 1250 was about to come on the scene.
    Anyway, I’m off to visit Lyndon in a couple of months to give the new model a test run and enjoy the sunshine and roads!
    I know now the result, so will probably place an order as soon as I get home. I’ve already decided on the colour!
    Sorry to see that you are coming under pressure regarding your vlogs, it is a difficult situation for you, only you can make the decision.
    For what it’s worth, your efforts will be greatly missed, of all the current motorcycling vlogs, yours and Richy Vidas are the best by far, so it would be a great loss.
    Before I break down in tears I’ll clear off.
    All the best, ride safe

    Love the GS counter! I've ridden my 2014 Triumph Tiger Adventure XC 1200 for 2 years now and LOVE it. Gotta love the sound of the triple compared to a twin thumper. I've no desire to even try any other bike. Hand grip warmers? Mine seem to be set to either "Normal" or " Nuclear". Recent 2,000 mile trip to Colorado it ate up both gravel and curves while averaging 54 mpg overall. Great review though. Thanks!

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому

      Thanks Coy, that’s good to hear that your grips are hot enough, it’s a fairly common criticism here in the Uk that there grips aren’t hot enough, compared to the competition 🤷‍♂️
      But I know it gets mighty cold over there in Colorado so if yours are warm enough, then that’s great stuff 👍
      Stay safe and glad you enjoyed the vid

    A somewhat sober review, but I think an honest one..you could indeed hear it in your voice it wasn't for you. As you said, your type of riding isn't for everyone, so i'm sure some will love it.....but I do think Triumph need to up their game in the big adventure bike arena. I like your heart on your sleeve approach....it adds transparency and honesty to the review. They can't be all be outstanding bikes! Don't dwell on the Patreon ride. it was the furthest i had ever ridden for a trip, so it can only get better from here. I loved it, even post pheasant. I absolutely love my 2019 Tiger XRT.
    I'm 6'1" tall, 52 years old, not very muscular and don't work out at all. I don't find this bike heavy or hard to flick/maneuver in the slightest. (Maybe he wasn't in 'Sport' mode ?) Plenty of power and loads of "Grin factor!" too. I'm not sure how you can ding a $20,000 bike for "being to refined" but I guess that's tepotone's opinion. I will say that if you have the riding mode set in one of the comfort settings - then that's what you'll get. I do agree with his assessment of being a great bike for 2-up riding and it's my wife's favorite (she's 5'7" tall) - she said she never wants to ride pillion on anything else ever again.
    This past Spring I rented a new GS to ride in Blue Ridge Mountains to see what all the fuss was about and I couldn't wait to get home to my Tiger. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing I liked better about the GS. The owner of the rental shop agreed and said that's why he 'retired' the Tiger to his own personal bike and now rents out the GS. Lol!

    • @traeucity6087
      @traeucity6087 4 роки тому

      The GS makes more torque at lower RPM's. I think that's what he was reacting to? I, too, would love to know which mode he had the Tiger in? I have never had to grab a fist full of throttle the way he did, when my bike was in Sport mode. Anyway, I'm happy with my Tiger. I am one of those vertically challenged people he referenced; but I also chose the Triumph because it looks better than the BMW and KTM bikes; and came standard with features that were options, or were unavailable on the other bikes. Also, I heard and read nightmare stories about the poor reliability and high maintenance costs of KTM's, BMW's and Ducati's. Here's a video of a GS owner giving the Tiger 1200 credit for having "great power".... ua-cam.com/video/lGvXJ8X2tzg/v-deo.html

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому +1

      Had it in Sport mode, nowhere near as much grunt as the other main big adventure bikes and I stand by everything I say in the vids.
      It’s a good bike, but nowhere as athletic or dynamic as the others.

      @@teapotone, You're right. After viewing your video, I discussed it with a friend that has a GS. He allowed me to ride his bike for comparison, and you are correct. There is not only more power available early on; but it continues up the rev range. The low speed maneuverability was also noticeably better.

      It’s weird as I used to LOVE the inline 4 of the gixxer, and I still do love to thrash a sports bike. But the grunt, sound and feel of that boxer engine just does it for me now.

      I tour on a Honda Crossrunner but will replace it in 2020. Its V4 has plenty of go and is so smooth compared to the 1250RS I test rode recently, so that’s out as a replacement. I’ll ride the RT but as it’s obvs boxer-powered too perhaps the same will apply. The Multistrada is out - I want a shaft-driven bike. Now, a fully specced RT is v similar in price to the K1600GT which looks awesome and would be perfect for the riding I want to do. But I’m 45, I want a K1600. Am I too young? Is that allowed? C 😊

    I've got a 2016 tiger 800. I've noticed every tour vid I've seen on the GS, most of the time the bike is riden in 3rd gear and yet my tiger would manage in 6th. Why is that?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому +1

      You get way more engine braking and throttle response in 3rd than you would in 6th, plus it’s an 800cc engine compared to a 1200cc engine, so the smaller engine will have to work harder for equivalent speed.

    Nice intro showing all the features of the bike rather than just rattling them off with dialogue 👍.
    Do you reckon the engine is still made of cheese? Use any oil?
    I noticed the average mpg was 47, so call it 45 adjusting for speedo error, which isn't bad for that size, weight and power of bike and the fact I image you weren't holding back in the Pico's.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому +3

      I had no issues at all with the engine, I did around 1,500 miles in the week I had it. I’ve known a few other people personally who’ve had this model of Tiger 1200 and none of them have had any issues - but I have had people contact me to say they had.
      For me personally, you’re always going to have some kind of issue with a bike at some point - it’s how this issue is dealt with by your garage/dealership that really counts.

    Nice review and round up Bruce, nice bike with amazing tech etc., but not my cup of tea!. Just too hefty and a bit too sanitized. Super smooth engines seem to lack character/excitement. Although just being on two wheels is exciting in itself!! What is the smallest capacity/power bike you have had join your Picos tours....? Cheers, Steve

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому

      Hi Steve,
      Yeah I think I agree with you there, when you refine an engine to such a degree as can be done these days, it really needs to have ‘something’ to substitute for that lack of engine character in order to appeal to me personally.
      Re the Pico’s trips, 600’s are the smallest CC usually - you need to be able to maintain the national speed limits for prolonged periods of time throughout the twisty roads.
      Obviously were not expecting MotoGP stuff, I’m not the fastest rider myself, but people who come away with us are expecting a fairly spirited trip. So it’s unfair to slow people down and have them constantly waiting all the time.
      I use the drop off marker system which allows people to ride at their own pace. However I don’t like to just leave people to fend for themselves, so I’ll periodically bunch everyone back up and get us back together as a group 👍

    Great review Bruce, you really know how to do this! I’m trying to make a final decision on a touring bike for both UK and Europe. You and TMF are GS men and they are great bikes. However, Steve at Big Bike Adventures waxes lyrical with some justification that the Africa Twin is the bike, as does my instructor buddy. A close friend of mine is trading in his GS for the Multistrada. The only missing review is the new V4 Multistrada and, of course, test rides! It’s a tough choice - views Bruce, please? Looking forward to your tour vids. Are you going to the show at the NEC? Yours aye, Alan

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому

      Hi Alan,
      Thanks very much bud for your comment and I’m chuffed you’re still enjoying the vids.
      The Africa Twin is a good bike, but it has it’s limitations in terms of road riding when compared to the other big ‘adventure’ bikes.
      If you took it to the mountains and started really riding it hard along the roads there you’d notice that it’s not as stable or agile as the others. If you’re on the heavier side then the stock suspension will also struggle to cope when pushed hard on a fast, dynamically changing road.
      But, if you ride at normal road going speeds and aren’t wanting to push the bike into the ‘spirited’ realms, then it’s a great bike - particularly if you like to do some off road.
      The V4 Multistrada - just the mention of that Beast puts my perv face on! I can’t wait to Chuck a leg over that and take one for a hurl. 👍

    Test rode both the multistrada and the 1200. The engine on the Duke was simply amazing, so fast as to be breathtaking. The Triumph, on the other hand, was smoother more relaxed, better on shit roads (lots of those in Kent) and had a normal ADV riding position. I loved it's class and, lets face it, do we need another GS on the roads. I speak as a GS1150 owner. Just loved the Triumph, and for heavens sake it's not heavy compared with so much else. My old Honda ST1100 weighed 100kg more and that was easy to manhandle. Maybe moto vloggers are all just lightweight snowflakes who need a trip to the gym? Lol.

      teapotone Seriously!? You’re promoting higher biking standards and they want you to stop! Short sighted, one dimensional idiots.

    It would be marvelous if you and TMF get together to do reviews. I think both of you can get along well and produce many entertaining vloggings.......✌

    What’s the power like vs the KTM SA, GT and the BMW GS

      Nowhere near as agile or quick as any of the other main big adventure bikes, but the Tiger feels very smooth.

    So you're saying that this bike is somewhat comparable to a Beemer GS?

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  4 роки тому +1

      It’s aimed at the same market certainly, but I feel that it appeals to a different rider - if that makes sense?
      For me the Triumph is a lot smoother, it’s capable of a quick ride but doesn’t make you feel like you’re going particularly quick.
      To me it felt more of a limo, whereas the KTM/GS feel more like a muscle car?
      It’s subjective though, take one for a spin and see what you think 👍

      @@teapotone I do like the Triumph and I'm more Limo than Muscle Car. Worth a ride on one so.

    I'll keep my 16 Tiger 800xrx. Plenty fast enough, very flickable, carries easily enough luggage,economic and cheaper to buy and run. I've found over the years that GS owners are very reluctant to 'like' or even 'acknowledge' other bikes as being as 'good' or 'better' 😋 😉you know what I mean.. 👍

      Can only speak for myself here Steve, but the reason I compare everything to my GS is because I genuinely think it’s the best bike out there at the moment for ME and for what I need a bike to do.
      If I find a better one then THAT will become the new benchmark for me.
      I used to be a huge critic of GS’s and their owners. I had a lot of pre-conceived ideas of what they represented.
      That all changed when I rode one 👍
