- Boston native Billy Baker tests how the iPhone's new Siri function stands up against the Boston accent. Video by Jonathan Wiggs/Globe Staff, produced by Lauren Frohne/Globe Staff.(Boston Globe)
"Let me ask you again, like talking to my wife"
I love the look on his face when she says "You're welcome" at the end. It's as if he's saying, "Oh, she... she, she actually replied."
can i pahk ma cahh in havad yaad
reminds me of south brittish accent.
sticksnstuff Fucking LOL!!!
2 years now and still receiving +1 every time I go on youtube
NYC accent, can I fuck my car in the Harvard yahrd.
sticksnstuff what the actual shit.. that’s exactly what I heard.
The Southern accent and Boston accent are the best accents in America, in the US.
Damn right
Marc Martin 1st Not really, more like the most annoying accents in America! Southern is too slang and twang, and Boston accent is not even proper English! Boston doesn't even pronounce their R's in a simple sentence! So no, Boston accent is just annoying. I rather listen to a Southerner talk!
Jeanette Marie I love it and new yorkiers
Jeannette Marie well no offence but the Midwest general standard American accent is very blend , so what if the Boston accent is not rhotic it's pretty charming .
smd Jersey Nigga
The Boston accent always sounds best on a cheerful, cheeky old guy
Cheeky🤨?
I love the Boston, New York, and New Jersey accents
She never understands me. It's fucking frustrating.
Lol are you from Boston?
"I'm here. You're there. Thank you." is how I plan on ending all my arguments/conversations now.
Somma these smaht phones ah reallly pretty dumb!
yah brah, fuck'em
fahkin wickid stupid
Change that "really" to "wicked"
I would say it like "Somma these smaht phones are fucking shit bro"
safia bella you wouldn’t change “really”, you’d change “pretty” to wicked to get it right
this phone must be retahded
Thamer_ss lol this was funnier than it should have been
"Ken I paahk my caah rin Haahvid Yaahd?"
And Siri's response! 🤣
Reminds me of hearing the Boston accents coming out of my Amtrak Conductors' mouths in New England!!!! THE funniest thing! I had this one Conductor who is a Southie, and you can REALLY hear his accent 🤣🤣. He's the FUNNIEST Conductor I have EVER met too in addition to his accent! I live in the DC area, but I Amtrak a lot to and from New England to visit my mom's side with my mom. I spent the first 7 years of my life in Mass near Foxborough. GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love my Boston accent.. Masshole for life
Gotta love our Boston accents
Best one evah!
"now there's a good question...where were we?" LOL Siri is a smart alec :D
I can’t believe I am just now finding these. I am in love with Billy Sr.
We may have thick accents, but at least we understand the basic rules of grammar.
Grammuh.
This happened with Y'at and Cajun accents in South Louisiana.
I love Siri has the last laugh with a polite "You're welcome" :)
He wasn't even using Siri so she could understand his accent. The first two scenarios were accurate. After that he just started goofing around with Siri. Plus Siri recognized the things he said in the Boston accent. Asking for next week's Power Ball numbers....? This was just not what I was hoping.
"I'll ask you again, you're like my wife."
xD
I don't hear the accent oh god.
You must be from Boston! 😊
My dads best buddy . I’ll always remember mr Baker .
0:47 - "I don't know what you mean by....."
Yes you do Siri. YES. YOU. DO.
1) It's a logo based on a character of a font set, so typically it cannot be trademarked, and 2) the Boston Globe was founded 13 years before the Barons. Though, logos using the 'Times' font is very common throughout all industries
Aww Billy Great to see you.. been a while since working at the Columbia Park w Matt and Donna when you and Buddy ran the place... Love the accent miss the dirty jokes though..should have given Siri one of those wonder what the reply would have been on that..Lauren
it sounds so normal to me 😂😂😂😂
"... in the Harvard Yard" which is funny as it is the main quad on the campus.
"I ask you again, it's like talking to my wife..." BAHAHAHA!
he is so adorable^-^
Boston is awesome!! I wish I had a caah to park XD
Wow that takes me back
Chowder.
I'm from boston, Siri can't understand me when I say room and that's the only problem I really have. It's weird, she picks up "rome"
Hey mr Baker ! Sean ford long time no see you look great hope all is well .
That's such a fuckin steryotype with Harvard yard
Which is why no actual Bostonian would say that
Also you can't park your car in Harvard yard people cause it's a park!
You mean havad yaad
0:55 🤣 "the wife" 🤣
STAHBUCKS
Pauli D is from Rhode Island which has an accent that is almost a combination of the Boston, Long Island, and New Jersey accent.
Born In Rhode Island
Moved To Worcester
Have Boston Accent
back in my day we didnt have these little smart boxes
It's more interesting and it has character. The general American accent is very boring and lacks character.
ajcool240 The general American accent was kind of manufactured anyway.
you right
@@levarmitchell3962 Absolutely! I call it Standard American English, what newscasters speak.
"I'm juuhst checking innnn onnnn yaahhhhh!!!!!"
The only thing inaccurate about this is the fact that he’s not going to Dunkin Donuts
I love that accent.
The 'at', I guess because of the 'a' sound, sort of kicks an 'r' onto the word 'car.' To a person from California, it'd be spelled "pahk my car at hahvahd yahd" even though it'd be "pahk my cah."
That face when she said "you're welcome" at 1:32 accurately explains how I feel when I see my time spent on playing GTA
It looks like you've got some starbucks in your mustache buddy.
Siri is developing a mind of her own!!!
sounds like a malden/revere accent..maybe east boston
He’s from Southie
why would she tell you the powerball number-because you bought a phone. Takes more than that.
The largest ethnic groups are Irish (15.8%), Italian (8.3%), Asian (8.9%) and Hispanic/latino (17.5%) with large amounts of English, French canadian/ french, West Indian (6%).
Siri's fahkin retahded!
Yup, Boston FTW.
It's like talking to my wife *gets cut off*
ROTFLMAO
I know that Pauli is from Rhode Island. Evidently, reading comprehension isn't one of your strengths. (I said that "most of them are from NY", and that's accurate.)
not to sound dumb, do a lot of people have a distinct accent in boston? I'm from nyc and in my borough I would say 50-60% of people still have the ny accent.
Siri where is the clicka
i watched my irish friend with the strongest accent ever try to get this to even understand "idont understand Whayt tirty trees lotter numbees" really that was his response to your lottery question about thirty three
Love this guy
I'll ask you again, it's like talking to my wife LOL
There were originally multiple variants on the accent one that wealthier bostonians use and one that more working class bostonians used. They are not as distinct anymore and I don't know where you are from but I am sure you have an accent and just don't realize it so try not to judge others.
My car discriminates against my new England accent as well, voice commands are pain to use
Man, this is pretty cool. My coach has a Boston accent, this this video got more serious after few minutes :D:DD:D:D
It is repeating exactly what he said.....Siri just doesn't have a search answer..
I never thought about that & how Siri with accents
This guy sounds like Cheers🍻 Cliff Claven 😂
define your "couple of days".
Great video
Staw Box! Hahahahaha! He can't pock his kaw at Havaghd Yod!
I think the poster meant to type in "Dor" as in Dorchester (Dawchestah to us here). It's a tough black neighborhood.
And it's "yah" not "yooo".
This is why you don't taunt computer programs with access to the internet lol.
1:33 your welcome.. oh shit, this thing still on? LMAO
Am I the only one who finds Siri's voice impossible to understand?
What part of Boston are you from?
Great video!
thats an ill name billy baker from bean town
i'm here, you're there, funny
WICKED PISSAH
He's funny and kinda cute ^_^
@1135maude Not that different. Ever watch Jersey Shore? Most of them are from NY, not NJ and none of them pronounce their R's. "Let's go to the bahh" (bar), etc.
The only difference is NY/NJ'ers say "cawwffey" for coffee. Bostonians/Massachusetts says "coffee" for coffee.
thanks
OH YEA OHH YEA HAWDER HAWDER
from someone with a boston accent, this is all funny to me, its like ya wanna type a boston accent but its wicked hard and even when i wanna put an h where i feel it should be i know i cant type like that for otha people to read.
You say that in Boston you'll be leaving with no teeth!
UR like a force of nature
sounds the same as a new york accent.
You should've actually replied to him lol.
Hate to break it to you but everyone has an accent I don't care if you technically speak the most standard form of the english language.
I have heard people from that area and you have an accent you pronounce words much differently and use different words to describe some of the same things.
heheh his face at the end
Whatzamattawithyasiri? Apple iPhone has trouble with American accents. Foreigners really have difficulty with siri.
Siri won't understand when I say singer it thinks I say finger or something else
You managed to botch the transcription of a quote from a video that is literally right above the comments section lol
Shows what you know, I don't got no teef.
"stahbucks"
Can I park my car on Harvard yard?- can I pak ma ca on havad yad? lololololololololololololololt
Same with most Irish accents, siri is a bit of a silly woman
They may not speak in a manner that you believe shows their intelligence however it seems that you are unable to type in a manner which shows your intelligence ;)
I find she does faihly well with my accent.
Is it true that most boston citizens are originally from Ireland ?
