- Unboxing, setup and review of the Brother DCP-L2530DW all-in-one wireless laser printer.. copy, scan, and print. It's a relatively compact printer and is reasonably priced (I bought this one for £140 in April 2021).
You can find it on Amazon here; amzn.to/322pEdR
The 'starter' toner in that comes in the box says it's good for 700 prints (depending on % coverage), so I'll see how we get on with that. The drum is rated for 12,000 pages! In the video I show you how to install the toner cartridge and drum into the printer.. it's very straight forward!
It's quite speedy, at 30ppm, and does duplex (2-sided) printing, which I found some of the HP equivalents don't do at this price. It was also a lot less bulky then the HPs.. well the ones that had a paper tray & did copy+scan, so I'm very happy with this one from Brother.
So far it's been working well over wi-fi with a Windows 10 laptop (no drivers needed to be installed) and an iPad (via AirPrint). Scanning worked without a hitch in the Windows-based 'Fax and Scan' app. I didn't try scanning on the iPad, but there's a Brother app for that.
I'm hoping that using 3rd party toner will work just as well as it does in the Brother HL-L2375DW I own.. I'll report back as this one gets some use by our grandparents. The unboxing of the HL-L2375DW is here; • Unboxing the Brother H...
The 3rd party toner I've used in my Brother HL-L2350DW without any issues is here amzn.to/2QPpB3k - I can't guarantee they'll work with the DCP-L2530DW, nor that Brother haven't updated the firmware to detect them, but they worked fine for me & I currently have one installed and working. Worth a go.. since you get 2x for about £30, and you can return them if they don't work.
I'm using the built-in printer options on the iPad which scans the wifi for available printers & shows it as an option when it finds it. That can sometimes take a little bit of prodding/cajoling to initially appear when you're turning it on from cold, but generally it's quite reliable. I don't use any Brother apps or anything like that, which is nice. Power consumption when turning it on is ~1kw, but that's just as it warms up and not for long (under a minute). If you don't use it often, just long-press the power button to turn it off (which is what I do). Power consumption is stated to be; printing=440w, ready=42w, sleep=6.2w, deep sleep=0.6w, off=0.03w.

At 2:33 , its not a heating strip, but the charge corona assembly, which puts a positive charge on the drum, to attract tbe negatively charged toner.
Nice! Thanks for the info 🙂
You open the back when you print thicker paper or envelopes so they dont need to bend.
This will be my first paper printer. I just ordered it for €150 that seems like not alot of money for a black and whire laser printer with a toner included and a scanner and kopiër. Looking forward to it :)
My san Andreas cheat codes will be printed nicely :D
That's a good price & I don't think you'll be disappointed. We love our laser printer.. The fact you can leave it for months, then turn it on without worrying the ink heads are clogged is brilliant 😊
@@Endpoint101 Indeed! I bought it because I figured I'd need it because I'm going to start a small repair Company at home and I'm happy to hear that you are so positive about yours. I heard good things about brother!
Awesome video also!
I wasn't sure if my toner was in right didnt have the same click as yours... but it's printing so it must be. Thanks for the video.
No problem, glad it helped 😀
Absolutely brilliant video, helped me loads, thank you VERY much :)
You're welcome! Thank you so much for letting me know!!
Thanks for this review. Can i take the top off when I'm not using the scanner?
When you do a scan, can you save the scanned image to an external stick, and will the scan be in colour (I know the printing is B&W)
It’ll scan in colour, yes. But it can’t scan to a memory stick attached to the printer.
Thanks for the instructions! Very clear.
😊
Would be handy when you also explained how to connect to wifi instead of press the button and connect
For future reference:
On printer:
Click menu
Go to network
WLAN
WPS
Login to your router:
Search for WPS (on my router TPlink it was under Wireless 2.4 GHz)
Click Add Device
Select "Press the WPS button..."
Click connect
Done, that should be it 😊
@@AnterasPL thx for the reply. I did find my answers back then. Again tnx for the effort 👍🏼
Is it possible to print without WiFi ? Directly from ipad and mobile phone?
@@SuperCrania after a little research i found that you actually can print over bluetooth when its an option on your printer. And also with a usb cable there are several options. So wifi isn’t necessary. Google will provide you all the answers. Good luck🤞🏼
Great printer if you can get it out of deep sleep or sleep mode. I have wasted so much time trying together the thing to work it is counter productive. Alas when it no longer works at all it wont be replaced.
I’m not a fan of putting it into Sleep.. I tend to turn it off entirely between uses, and haven’t had a problem. My father in law uses sleep mode and hasn’t told me he’s had any problems.. could you maybe see if there’s a firmware update.. that might help.
@@Endpoint101 having seen loads of complaints about sleep mode it seems it is supplied in deep sleep mode and the way to get it out is not clear. Not even on the Brother site! Most YT videos explain a hidden trick to do it. Far from ideal! You may want to just do a search on this dilemma! It’s a common problem! Happy printing anyways 🙂
Is the right hinge(s) on the scanner lid lose? The build quality seems a little weak/cheap.
thanks for video! almost made my mind up on this but wanted to check how you getting on with it ? still happy with the purchase?
Yes, still happy with it .. well my father in-law is.. it's his, but I researched it for him :) I've got another Brother model (HL-L2350DW) which doesn't have the print/scan features, and is more compact (uses the same toner + drum tho), and couldn't be happier with it, even after 2.5yrs -- here's the unboxing of that one; ua-cam.com/video/f89ZCR7N0Og/v-deo.html
@@Endpoint101 thank you. just ordered one. hopefully will get it when Amazon gets the stock back
🤞
I always buy original brother toner as appreciation for not being fleeced to print at home. If the company is fair with me, I'll be fair with them.
That's a really good idea! You're very right!
if you want to do a duplex copy of a physical page (not from pc or smartphone), do you have to turn the page or does it do it automatically?
Its automatic
Great review, coming from a hp injet printer i don’t print very often so every time i do i have to waist 10 sheets of paper cleaning the heads, Can laser prints work after a long time, Thank you
Yes, absolutely.. it's the reason we ditched our ink jet printer & have loved the laser printer.. you can leave it for (many) months, turn it on, and it'll just work! It makes a huge difference to that printer anxiety we used to get, not knowing whether that important ticket you need can be printed or not.
Super review but as I see there is no wired connectivity (Ethernet), no wired network. Is it correct? But In the specification it is mentioned. Regards
Yeah, there wasn't as far as I remember (this is my father in-laws printer, which I helped him choose).. and I don't see a port for it in the video. Are you sure it's the same model you're looking at? Maybe check the Brother website for the manual which will give you all the specs/ports.
@@Endpoint101 Yes, I checked it. And just now somewhere I found advise the port is hidden inside the printer! Wau. Regards
This is specs from brother, in germany but I translated this line
Konnektivität ( CONNECTIVITY) WIRED NETWORK( =Verkabeltes Netzwerk), Wireless, USB
Regards
@@jacek7178 Oh, interesting.. the next time I'm around there I might have a look to try and find it! Thanks for the info!!
Thanks for the video, thinking about getting one of these and just wondered if you had tried a third party toner in it yet ?
Yes I have, this one worked great.. amzn.to/2QPpB3k
@@Endpoint101 brilliant thanks, think that’s made my mind up 👍
Thanks very much for the video, helped me a lot thankyou very much👍
You’re welcome 🙂
Hi great video thank -how is the software for remote printing i.e from iphone /ipads etc? have you farced any problems? previously own a HP it was a pain. Also very new to the concept of laser printers for home use - is the power consumption noticeable higher i am an occasional user light office home so I don't think this would be really noticeable? Thanks again

Thank you, I made my choice!
Awesome! Glad it helped 🙂
Thank u for the video!
You’re welcome. Glad you found it useful.
I normally open the rear flap to clear/pull any jammed paper - yeah still happens. Printer tech has changed but printing still not smooth, and expensive too!
We've not had many paper jams.. once a year maybe. Having a laser printer is soooo much better than an inkjet.. those things are just awful for getting blocked nozzles!
@@Endpoint101moisture in tbe paper and / high humidity will increase the likelihood of jams-which is why paper curls up when coming out of the fuser unit. Less moisture in paper, then it is less likely to jam.
Very helpful thank you.
You're welcome!
Is this that, "brother from another mother" I keep hearing about?
🤣
Thanks very much - helpful and clear ✅
Thank you 😊
Thank you so much!
You're welcome 🙂
Any idea what the difference between this and the 2510d is?
This one is wireless, the 2510D isn't
@@Endpoint101 Ok thanks mate
im in trouble. better this or 2710dw?
Depends whether you need a paper feed into the scanner; if you need to scan/copy a stack of pages the L2710DW is best. If that doesn't matter to you, I'd go for the L2530DW.. it's more compact & cheaper.
@@Endpoint101 thanks a lot mister
Which did you decide to get?
Can print without WiFi?? Directly from ipad or phone ??
How would you physically connect the ipad to the printer without wifi? I guess it might be possible with a certain lightning cable, but that’s not something I’ve heard of before.
@@Endpoint101 you don't have the answer and made me a question.
Well I have another printer model and it does print with NFC.
👍
@@SuperCrania Oh interesting, that's the first I've heard of that.. looks quite neat. I don't think this model has that capability.. it's not something I remember seeing on the body of the printer anywhere.
Does it have a scan only function?
If so, can it scan in colour to the pc?
Yes, it can just scan to the PC if you want it to. 99% sure it'd be in colour, but it's my father in laws printer, so it's not easy to check.
@@Endpoint101 Thank you.
@@Endpoint101 Yea it can scan it in colour.. but I think there should be an option where you can scan in greyscale too.. like sometimes when you scan a text and want it in b/w or greyscale... scans faster.
Thanks for confirming! 👍
Does it print color or black & white ? Also if I wants to scan does the scan goes to Wi-Fi system to the laptop or I have to put wear with my laptop for scan ?
Does this print in colour?
Nope
@@Endpoint101 Thank you.
wanted to use a cable didnt show how...
does this work in mac mini m1?
Works with an MacBook Air m1, latest OS.
So annoying that they did not supply LAN/ethernet/RJ-45 connection on this -.-
True, esp for a small office.. I guess for home offices that’s more of an edge case, and you could easily add a cheap wifi access point/bridge to it.
At least it has duplex printing.. a lot of the competing brands (e.g. HP) are more expensive and don’t even do duplex, which to me is a deal breaker.
Hoe installeer ik wifi van printer naar telefoon
As long as the printer is on the same wifi network as your phone, you should be able to use the app's Print function to print to the printer.
thanks! :D
No problem 😌
How to set up wifi, how to scan email? Understood nothing)))
Вы понимаете русский? Я пересмотрела весь интернет, и не смогла понять зачем в комплектации к нему идут три передние панели??!!! Что с ними делать? Никто не может это объяснить.
Not sure what you mean by 3 front panels, could you elaborate?
@@Endpoint101 I myself guessed what it was. This is a panel overlay with buttons in different languages. To me it's completely pointless. The words start and stop are written the same in all languages. only a few words were written differently. that is, I have 4 button overlays in different languages.
Do it right… step by step…
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh
I hope that this doesn't prester with firmware updates like the Epson printer does. Really annoyed a Cliant who prints wirelessly.
It doesn't, no. I don't remember the last time I saw one.
ONE BIG HEADACHE is what this crap machine is.
Oh really? We've found ours has been great.. what's been the problem with yours?
