They created that monster, now they can't control it...
It’s a vicious cycle of lies.
Trumpenstein's monster.
90+% of the GQP Congress are with this fascist un-American movement.
They are slaves to their voters in a way that we have never seen before, but they can't even get off that easy, the Republican party is so hungry for power that they are willing to sacrifice American democracy for it. It's despicable.
Matt Damon.
I'm sick and tired of this country being held hostage by the uneducated
For Real 🤣
Then leave the Democrat party.
And the 'uneducated' are too stupid to realize it's an insult.
@ Jock Young:. Those uneducated are CON Don's base...Trump stated that if he ran for president, he'd target the UNeducated bc they'd believe ANYTHING he'd say.
He wasn't wrong on that point. Over 30,000 lies and they are still backing this FRAUD, CON man, cheat & LIAR.

Same for any riot. Unfortunately there have been too many occasions in the last few years where rioting/looting/burning were met with less than decisive action on part of police leaders. Hopefully they learned to bring the headbreakers back on duty and crack some skulls early.
So they acquiesce to the crazies even though they know they're wrong? That's cowardice plain and simple
Most politicians will do anything to keep their jobs, regardless of party.
Sometimes they have good reason to fear their voters. Republicans who initially refused to endorse Trump's stolen-election lie received death threats!

More than 913,000 Los Angeles County voters cast in-person ballots using the Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) ballot marking devices built by Smartmatic. The company manufactured 31,000 BMDs in total. More than 19,400 were deployed to 791 vote centers for the election.

Herding housecats at this point. Personal experience.

It's very telling about the condition of your democracy when the happiness of one party is predicated on the unhappiness of the other party.
It's not so much lying to your voters as it is telling them what they want to hear, even if it's a lie.
It’s a vicious cycle of supply & demand of lies.

They are nothing but overpaid
Over privileged

You could be a politician… Lol…
@John Yeh To be fair, there's Kinzinger. And a small handful of others. The key issue here, the one never to lose sight of, is that a high proportion of Republican politicians would have gone along with cancelling the result of a presidential election by falsely msintaining that it had been dishonestly conducted. That is an attempted coup d'etat.
Ha ha ha! That's exactly what Kathleen Turner told Jack Nicholson in "Prizzi's Honor" when *his* character discovered that *her* character had lied (to *his):*
"I told you what you *wanted* to believe, Charlie. What you *wanted* to be true."
Btw, Kathleen and Jack played gangsters in that movie.
Cult of personality - - SO TRUE!
I remember when most conservatives were cut from the same bolt of cloth as George Will. They were eloquent, intelligent people. Nowadays, they are loud, obnoxious, and refuse to negotiate. More's the pity.
They make Joe the Plumber sound like Bill Buckley.
I used to read George Will and other thoughtful conservative writers..disagreed usually but that was the point. I liked my opinions being challenged by smart people. Where are the conservative intellectuals today? Certainly not in Public office.
True. I don’t remember exactly when it started to happen but, correct me if I’m wrong, I seem to think for me anyway (as my husband and myself were Republicans) it changed with Bush. JR. when he started to go along with Cheney & Rumsfeld . I voted for Bush Junior the first time, but that was the last time I voted for or ever will vote for a Republican .
@John Yeh My answer would not be as in-depth as yours, but I think the seeds were planted by Nixon. Ford tried as much as he could to fly under the radar after Nixon left office. Then when Reagan was elected, with some of the policies that he pushed, trickle down, under the table arms deals, etc., a true divide began to develop. With his 8 years, 4 with Sr., 8 with Jr., it grew exponentially. Then with the last administration it is now akin to the Mariana trench. Just my opinion.
We all dismissed Sarah Palin as as a dummy but I believe she sowed the seeds of the current Republican Party. Guns, God and control women’s bodies. Core conservatives thought McCain made a huge mistake in selecting Palin as his running mate. McCain realized that himself soon after choosing her. Core conservatives were not happy with McCains pick. McCain chose populism over substance with that pick. She was the Trump of her time. We should have been more cognizant of the effect her candidacy had. Republicans didn’t want her but they wanted someone just as obtuse and uninformed. They were pretty psyched when Trump fit the bill.
Trump’s base reminds me of an army of Sarah Palins rather than one of George Will.

No I don't agree. The majority of Americans are the ones who removed Trump. If they would stop giving the attention to these crackpots and making them feel important they will mean the nothing they are. It's the media trying to sell the nonsense and many people not buying.
This hysteria addiction is the inevitable result of social media. We might have to make a choice between democracy and social media.
Basically, the inmates are running the asylum!
nope. they've been let out of the asylum en masse. now they are prancing around fully armed, believing THEY are the sane ones.
Kate Lugg, Senior GOP Senator from TN called that Whitehouse "A DAYCARE CENTER GOR ADULTS".
Reminds me of the cult classic King of Hearts finale when Alan Bates is stark naked with his carrier pigeons begging to be let into the asylum to escape the madness of the world.
The sad thing is they helped create such an ignorant voter base by lying to them in the first place.
Well, they believed them, so…
Didn’t Frankenstein turn on his own creator ?
There’s not one ounce of patriotism in the Republican Party.
They traded patriotism for worship
George Will may now be considered the "Good Conservative," but several years ago he wrote a column in which he said that everything would be just A-OK if only we turned back the clock to the year 1900. So, I tend to take what he says with a grain of salt.
I believe he enjoys the cloak of privilege birthright.
I'd say he's right on about today's repubs.
Al Gore stood up at the count and filled his Constitutional role, even though he had a lot more legitimate reason to think the election was stolen than trump ever did.

Yeah, George Will was out of line, comparing trump to Gore. After the Supreme Court ruling, Gore accepted the outcome and congratulated Bush for his victory. trump knows he lost, but instead of being a gracious loser, he tried to overthrow the election.

"...a cult of personality.." there may be a good reason for the total disintegration of this once identifiable political party! This GOP is moving towards the last stage of its implosion.
The questions about Bush/Gore were legitimate, but short-lived because Gore had the grace to put country first and concede. We know plenty of shenanigans went on in 2016 and perhaps someday we will have a fuller picture. But neither of these instances compares with the current "Big Lie" and attempted coup.
"....sulphuric belch from Mar-a-Lago..." Classic!
Just make sure on Saturday September 18th, you get plenty and complete still photographs and video footage of ALL who attend , may be needed in the upcoming insurrection trials
George Will's unconscious irony: "Whoever caused that obscenity of a fence to be put up should be removed." ... followed by..."Americans are so addicted to hysteria... and furiousness..."
Lol ... yeah, I noticed that too ..
Wow! This gentleman knows what he is talking about. We need more folks like him having a megaphone. He's right! It needs to be 2 parties that care about their voters. Not 1 party and 1 cult of personality.
Afraid of the monsters, beasts, subhumans, they created.. why??
Will lost me when he mentioned 2016 and 2001. Hillary conceded the day after the 2016 election, and in 2001 the election result hung on a few hundred votes in a state where the election was run by a Bush ally, and where there was well documented and widespread problems with the ballots.
Times have really changed. George Will used to represent the extreme fascist . Now he is a a "moderate"...centrist compared to the atrocity committing GOP leaders
This is what happens when different levels of evil - clash. Most evil thumps (just) evil !
I am just terrified of the voters. I am terrified at the warped American attitudes.
George Will put an intellectual gloss on the Monster..no lectures from Mr. Will.
George Will helped create this mess. He has no credibility in my eyes.
Many Americans define happiness as the unhappiness of the other team.
We need new political parties to take root.
As a Canadian where there are 6 political parties I can tell you it still evolves into dysfunction. Our Liberals are your Dems. Our Conservatives are your GOP. Now the Cons leadership losses started a new Party called the Peoples Paty who resemble themselves to the Trumplicans. Anti-everything and they are fighting for rights and freedoms to block yours. The green Party and the New Democratic Party which has been an opposition Party and fight for all our social programs and the wealthy not paying their share. The point being none of the leaders are leaders and they can't work together. Everyone thinks the other guy is corrupt and lying and their guy faultless. It's the people who need to grow up and stop dividing and becoming so tribal and closed minded to others views.
I am hoping Virginia doesn't turn red we need to stay blue!

Is “being in private life” so terrifying? It strikes me that there don’t seem to be term limits, and this issue an incentive to behave badly. The politicians who I like in my country come in for a cycle or two, they come in fresh and ambitious, try to make a difference, and then rotate out to other pursuits. This isn’t mandatory, but it does seem logical because they tend to be authentic when in the legislature and not exclusively focused on self-preservation. They do not want to stay forever. I think it helps that after two four year cycles they can retire with a full pension, but tellingly that is probably the right incentive.
They become addicted to the power, perks, and elitism. They want to be noticed and heard. Ones like Mitch are a great example of people who succumb to the corruption from dark money and elitism.
I'm less concerned with how long they hold unto office, and more concerned with how they become lobbyists when they leave office.
@@deborahfreedman333 Objectively speaking, the dark money, elitism, lobbying infrastructure are all oversized aspects of particularly American politics. They do exist elsewhere but don’t stand out as being a major concern. I’m not sure if the rules need to be changed, or the institutional and constitutional structure are inherently flawed but those things aren’t normal or inevitable.
