I think one of the main reason for recalibrating the battery is so that the internal micro chip inside the battery can properly report to the OS the energy level that is available in the battery; design capacity vs available capacity. From my experience, once the battery's life is at 80% or less, most batteries significantly lose ability to hold the charge. For example, let's say brand new battery can last for 10 hours. At 80% of battery life remaining, one would expect battery to still hold for 8 hours. But this often isn't the case anymore, and usually such battery will last only 6 or less hours. It's almost as if battery cells are discharging quicker as they age.
With the laptop batteries it is really hard to get a real quality score. Alot depends on their age and how the laptop is being used during the testing.
If your battery is starting to show signs of discarding faster than when new, will recalibrating the battery fix this problem or just help extend the battery life and how often show you recalibrate your battery. Thanks

If I leave my electrical cord plugged in all the time, is that bad for my battery? My battery light is now orange, should I replace it if I never use it without plugging it in?
The only time you really need to worry about your battery is if it starts over heating. Otherwise you can leave your laptop plugged in all the time. I use a CF-54 for work and it stays plugged in all the time. I am not even sure my batteries are working since I never use it unless its plugged in.
@@Bobjohnson Thanks Bob, I have been leaving mine plugged in all the time also. But this morning I noticed that the orange light was on - while it was plugged in. So I unplugged it and now it appears to be back to a green light. I guess it will be okay and I do not have to consider buying a new one. thanks for your help, and quick response.
