Love your reaction! Jay is a musical genius and to say that he’s the ‘king of music’ is not shameless at all, he’s been that for 20 years now, since 2000. He composed every single of his songs and wrote for other singers as well (well over 150 songs). His voice is not the most craziest and strong… but he knows how to use it. He uses his voice like an instrument. He can hit some very high notes in his more slow ballads. The technique he uses with his voice is amazing. Majority of people say his songs sound easy to sing… until you try singing it…. Then you’ll get that it’s really difficult haha. You should check out more of his sad ballads to hear his raw voice!
@@TheVocalyst If you like songs in this style, he has a lot of dark, almost gothic sounding songs that beautifully mixes rap, classical music, and r&b. Some songs in this style that I recommend are Wounds Of War, In The Name Of The Father, Nocturne, Chapter 7, Against, Bedtime Stories, Stolen Love, Lover From A Past Life. He has many more hit songs that are in different styles of music but these ones are some of my personal favorite.

The piano part at the beginning made me feel nostalgic. It is from his movie "Secret" and in the movie when you played that piece, you could time travel, which this music video references. I love it.
Jay Chou is unique in that he was trained in classical music and piano since he was only 4 years old. Before his career started he was actually composing for other artists but he was getting turned down by some Mandopop singers because they didn't know who he was at the time. So his very first album was a mix of songs he composed for other artists that were turned down and he sang them himself even though he hadn't had vocal training. Fast forward 22 years later and he now has 15 albums and every song is composed by him.
No one can deny the impact of Jay Chou in the music industry, he is so talented, and famous, and rich. More like a living legend.

Jay is the greatest artist. And you don’t even need to know Mandarin in order to live his music. If you love when the singer can play an instrument.. well you will find that there’s a long list of what music instrument Jay can play. His live performance is great too. How he mixes traditional instruments and his magic tricks are also second to none.

This music video is really "greatest works of art", I watched it almost 100 times and I almost cried when I first watched it. So beautiful.
Some context, in the beginning, the melody of the piano refers back to a movie he's done, "secret," and the theme played was the music for reversing time. That's why you see the watch going counter clock wise. And the middle section with Lang Lang is possibly also a reference to the piano battle from the movie.

Having grown up on Jay Chou, I feel like his newer songs, though they are good from a music production and musicality standpoint, they aren’t like his older songs. Jay Chou’s have many older songs that are instantly recognizable for people that are immersed in Asian pop music. Some of his songs are almost to the level spice girls recognizability in the Asian community.

I'm a Chinese and I'm new to your channel. You look sensational! And I like professional reactions. My history of rock n' roll teach saw this video and she paused multiple times as well lol.
I wish you could turn on the subtitles/ lyrics translation of Jay Chou's music artwork (which is available in that MV on UA-cam as well, by just turning on the subtitle..), in which he "met" and talked about different artists' contribution in his "travel journey" and then elevated himself as one of them (he can definitely get away with it), and so many things! I can't copy and paste the lyrics translation for some technological reasons but I still recommend you check that out! The lyrics give much depth to the cinematography and the story expressed in this MV

Normally, vocals stay on top of the music, where music serves as a background/support( I don't know how to call that). But in Jay Chou's song, his voice usually blends into the music and becomes one with his music.
Personally, I have 3 steps to enjoy his music: 1. without lyrics; 2. with lyrics; and 3. watch the MV. If you don't speak Chinese, please note that his pronunciation of the lyrics is often being described as "blurry", and usually, you cannot understand what he is singing without lyrics on the first go.

He is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter who has had a long career in China and Hong Kong. I'm also Taiwanese, but I don't think he has very good singing ability😅 even though his songs are always popular. Thank you for your reaction to him.
Jay doesn't have the best vocal technique and his live vocal performance isn't the best. But the guy can sing. His biggest strength is knowing how and when to change his tone to make it fit into the mix or the theme in production, and he does this better than most popular singers in asia in his time. As she said this track isn't vocal centered and it's not meant to be.
Side note Jay's vocal did improve drastically over the years. And he became quite a vocalist in his own niche by 8th album imo.

Jay was a trained classical pianist, he doesn’t have the greatest voice But he knows how to use it so well, like this type of voice of him 4:25 makes me forget that he can actually rap.
I love “In The Name of The Father” the most, it’s a strange kind of song I’ve ever loved, a bit scary but somehow it feels so catchy with his voice.
