  • In today's discussion, we're addressing the issue of why people don't speak up about their mental health struggles. We explore the barriers such as shame, stigma, fear of failure, and the fear of being judged or misunderstood. The conversation also highlights the difficulty in expressing one's emotions when they are not aware of their own mental health condition. It emphasizes the importance of finding someone who listens and understands, as well as the availability of trained professionals ready to help. The speakers share personal experiences and stress the significance of reaching out for support. They conclude by encouraging individuals to seek help despite the challenges in articulating their feelings.

I think 2 important points were made here. One, our own fears holding us back from speaking up, but secondly, finding the RIGHT person to speak up too?
How will you know it's someone willing to understand and open to support?

Finding the right person to speak to is often down to trial and error. Once you open up you will find out it you are speaking with the right person. If not, it is important to seek help from somebody else. Not to give up. I have been through a number of people who turned out not to be helpful at all, but also found exactly the right person. Professionals also vary in quality and attitude, so it is worth shopping around.
