For years I've been hammering home-specific statement when it comes to on-location portraits. "if you're in Paris at the Eiffel Tower....and you take.a picture in front of it....but you can't tell you're in Paris at the Eiffel tower...then what was the point of being in Paris at the Eiffel Tower???" The point of that statement is to remind you not to shoot the tightest portraits possible, especially when you find yourself in a cool location where the scene can play a part in your photo.

@@ntwlwb99 if you know the basics you should know how to make your own presets
Those group photos at a table are always a challenge, so well done! Thanks for sharing these with us! That said: what's the story on Fro Pack 4?! I need 15 new presets to consider when editing my photos! I love Silvertide! But now I need something that enhances browns and other earthy tones. I also would like a preset that does those super-bright backlit portrait shots. Thanks again!
@@swistedfilms very soon
Just curious on your thought on the RF28-70 F2? I've been thinking about picking it up over the 24-70 F2.8 and it would be mounted to an R6.
Thanks for the great videos and education on photography
You'll probably never see this comment but we actually met up wayyy back in 2011 during one of your first Fro Tours through Boston. At the time I was going to school for photography, but only after spending years learning how to use a professional DSLR on manual through your OG how-to guides. I'm now a full time working professional photographer with 10+ years of experience under my belt and a portfolio I'm immensely proud of, and it's thanks to you for providing the necessary content to allow for a beginner to learn their way through the basics of exposure, etc. Thanks for the years of excellent work, man. It's greatly appreciated.
It's incredible how many professionals are afraid of sharing their experience, because they fear that they might lose a job.
In my honest opinion, those are the worst kind of photographers to learn from. Always learn from those willing to share their knowledge into making you a better photographer, because it shows they have confidence in their work, and now their value in the market.
12 years ago, I was watching your beginner guide...understanding manual photography... guessing proper exposure in 3 shots...
sharp images in low light...
Fast forward today, I'm watching this and I still appreciate it very much.
And, you also made me discover James Blunt!
Thank you Jared!
Thanks for watching for so long
Thanks Jared for your commitment to sharing knowledge! I really love this type of content... I keeps me inspired to continue learning!
You’re the best photography teacher in You Tube!
loved the black and white ones in all cases!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! We needed this✨
Jared, I enjoyed this video immensely. I was born in Paris (1954), so were my parents (both in the early 30's). I have always believed that black & white was the best way to describe Paris in the most AUTHENTIC manner. Your pictures almost got me emotional. Also, a deceased uncle was from Normandie. Double whammy. LOL Thank you for this video. You went beyond the technical aspects of photography and I really appreciated that. Thank you.
I'm gonna watch and rewatch this. I love your videos and tutorials. I'm getting into photography late in the game so it will only be a hobby but I hope those generations that follow me will pick up the art and enjoy it too. Thanks to you I'll have good videos to point them to for the knowledge they'll need to succeed.
Been watching your videos for a while, this is by far my favorite. I feel like we became friends today, especially when you were talking about D-day, the headstone and the soldier.
Jared is The Man who Gets The Photo Done ! Cheers from Romania
Another great video. Probably one of my favorite. I particularly enjoy when you get into composition and rational for a shot. I have found I'm often thinking back to one of your comments before pushing the shutter these days and that's a good thing. I'm working on accumulating enough shots worthy of paying to do the one on one mentorship experience. (Hopefully in the not too distant future!)
This was one of my favorite videos that you've done. It's such a gift to receive a detailed lesson like this from an expert photographer, and the way you broke things down was fantastic. Thank you.
This type of video is the reason I started watching your videos years ago.your thought process. I prefer the cafe with people moving to just the one guy with the paper
Came for the guns, stayed for the lesson.
Some may argue those are cannons.
@@Stupranos some would argue those are sling shots.
Great BTS education, Jared! And thank you for the gracious nod to our Canada Day!! 🇨🇦 🍁
I liked the guy reading the paper without the waiters in the foreground. I also would've liked to see the image in color.
Thank you Jared! A very nice presentation with an array of variety and history. Today would be my late Father's 99th birthday. He was a decorated Army Infantry soldier from World War II. He never talked about his arrival on Omaha Beach on D-Day and the injuries he sustained as those around him were slaughtered on the beach. He loved nature and the open doors, was raised on a farm and would appreciate the photo you posted of how Omaha Beach has been restored to a pristine condition from its bloody, mechanized mess of 1944. Photographers leave a printed legacy of history and a moment frozen in time for generations to learn from. Thanks for teaching the next generation of photographic historians. Merci! - Jim
Mr.Polin, I'm so glad I found YOU!! Thank you for your videos
Thank you Jared. This is great and i appreciate this help! Being an average photographer, I feel your information is better than a college level class.
You mix education and entertainment perfectly!
as someone who is getting back into photography after 35 years, I found your channel to be informative and fun. Your passion about photography is contagious. Thanks for everything you do!
this is maybe a late comment yet I am watching this as even I don't have my own camera yet, I am in love with the art of photography! Thank you for this! This is a great way to start learning!
I really appreciate your content and your podcast. The podcast is hands down the best photography podcast. Every other one seems pretentious and self-agrandizing. You do it but it's funny and in a way like Howard Stern in the old days. ❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have so much knowledge just by watching this video. You explain everything so good that I can sorta have an idea of what I'm doing!
Great video! I love the B&W. Your Eifel Tower photo is awesome. I visited Paris and Normandy in 2017 and have very similar images. It was an emotional journey and one I'll never forget.
Also, a small focal length + bigger distance to a subject make a quadratic impact on the depth of field while the aperture has a linear effect. The depth of field at 14mm f/2 is the same as 28mm at f/8. You may have to crop, but you'll get better light and more people in focus when you keep in mind the DOF formula. It's nice when you can do the exact math before taking a shot, or you can remember a few configurations to ensure that everybody is mathematically in focus.
Have my r8 in the mail today and I’m hyped to try it out
Awesome video! I love all of your photos but especially the B&W.
Jared… I think the best years of photography are behind us.
The time when people had old DSLR’s shooting only photos no videos, only one shot at a time, no burst of shots, no fast AF, no Eye AF nothing. Nada…
When the skill was important not the gear, not being opssesed by the new technology, but instead use what you own knowing it will last for years to come, thus mastering you art 😊
When the image you took was chalenging, respected…
Today half of the world is shooting everything 😂
I absolutely loved how you linked camera settings to conveying a story through a photo.
I have always thinked about how composition affects the story telling but I've never thought much on how settings affect it as well. I got it specially on the shot with the barbwire and the sea on the background.
Really 10/10 video
Thank you for sharing your expertise.
For some reason, I think black and white and Paris match very well.
Love these lessons. Keep ‘‘em coming Jared!
I love the color edit at 12:17.
Thanks for this video, bought a canon r8 after watching your video on it and now I'm learning from you how to use it!
Really enjoyed this one Jared, great video brother.
Jared, you missed it in the French newspaper, it said to give Gordon one of the prints!
Real talk, this was an amazing video !!!!Thank you, really appreciate the content.
Great informational video Jared. Thanks for showing us the ones you like and the ones you don't. There are a lot of photographers that could learn from this.
More of this please! Awesome insights especially of the desition making process and in-detail explanations, that helped me a lot :)
I've been waiting YEARS for this
This was great! I’d love more like this!
Fro knows more than photos. I wonder if that fro extension to his brain? He is one of the strongest person I’ve ever seen and the way he explains photography is really easy to follow I won one of his prints on that giveaway he did I really like it
I pretty much only take wildlife images, so looking at black and white images is so unusual for me. I’m going to go and find some black and white bird images, and have a play in Lightroom. Thank you for the inspiration.
Love this type of content from you as you take us through your process! Would love more of these!
This was one of the most enjoyable and informative videos I've seen for some time. I especially enjoyed the B&W shots when compared to the color versions. I am rethinking some of the shots I have.
I think your photos look greart in B&W. Honestly i think i can shoot 80% of my photo in B&W, it gives more details and contrast etc. love your work and waiting for more
Awesome flex 💪🏼
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I would like more of these Videos. You have always great advices for us and tell interesting storys behind the shots!
It's like an academic lecture❤
That Eiffold tower shot is INSANE! Bravo
Love the B&W ... wishing to be in Paris and Normandy someday myself! Thanks, Jared!
Excellent video!! Saludos desde Uruguay
Great Stuff... Congratulations
This was a great video! Really interesting to follow your thoughts on compesition and techniques. Great job Jared!👍
How about this mix version of your friend drinking his coffee in front of the Eifel tower: Chose the black and white one but keep only the France flag in color. ;-) That would be a great photo I think. And thank you for all of your contribution on helping people learn photography for all these years. 🙂
Awesome Job! ...and no hate comments on products! Surprisingly quite enjoyable content!
Thank you for sharing this Jarod, been watching not long ago around 2020. And decided to pick up my first DSLR from D3300 and now D750, I learned some from your videos and absolutely love your Photostory series. ❤️
Learned and enjoyed very much. Thank you.
Great video! Really liked the picture with the new paper reading and the moving waiters. Also funny to see you make a lot of these images b&w. I also have this tendency because it makes it more about the history around these places in europe.
Excellent tutorial in what your thought process is as you take photos
Great video. Thanks Jared!
I really like the cafe with people walking
Another great video, thanks for your help.
Loved it, cheers JP
Also what else helps print you photos just go to a place like cvs Walgreens and then Turn your photos upside and review them it helps you identify distractions and composition
jfyi, tower is painted , hense the color. It gets painted contantly. Thankyou for your lesson, great composition, You rocked it!
Thank you, Jared! Really enjoyed and learned from this.
sharp lesson for me at 12:30 . look at how many shots you took trying to get the shot of her on the bench. I think that net time I go shooting I will need to remember to take MORE pictures and keep working on the shot I'm doing instead of just trying a few and then moving to a different setup thank you.
Great content! Sharing your thought process is invaluable-thanks !
A non-click bait title....fantastic!
that wont get views....fantastic.
@@froknowsphoto is life about views? Or is the intent to help people. If the intent is to help just helping one should be enough..
@@froknowsphoto 😂 I mean, it got my attention, but I do understand it's business. Gotta do what ya gotta do.
Loved the B&W's
I normally know how to use my settings except when I did some portraits at a concert with 70-200 2.8 EF on R7 at 70mm, 2.8, 1/2000 and iso6400 🥴
First time canon ever and screwed it up :D
What person is into a camera! Snap out of it! 😱😱
Nice “guns” Jarred. You could deal with any sized lens attached to any big camera with battery pack. Cheers
The photo company at the Eiffel Tower (Phoenix Photo) need to watch this. Their photos would be much nicer if you could actually see that you’re at the Eiffel Tower.
my two favorite things. Photography and war history
I really liked your review of all the images.
when I went to Paris and saw the Mona Lisa it was just behind a piece of glass and a soap keeping you from getting too close. Times have changed. I preferred the color one because while the B&W looks like an older photo he didn’t. If he was a little out of focus maybe it would look better.
Wow Beautiful views
nice vid ,Fro.. At 9:30 I prefer the color one of the guy Drinking his cafe. The Tower pops more and the eye definitely notices it more. The pop of the French Flag sends home the authenticity of it all.
We went to Europe last fall (Italy, Greece, and Turkey) and only took my Sony a7iii and two lenses. They were the Tamron 17-28 and 28-75 G2. I almost never saw a need for more.
About the dog picture, in my opinion, the fact that you managed to get the blurr on the person passing to convey movement gives all the meaning to the photo even if the dog is not purely super sharp, I don't care. But, I think, and that's just me, that modern cameras with burst mode take a bit the fun of photography away since you can shoot and almost surely get what you want. Sometimes we miss great opportunities and sometimes we are at the right place at the right moment to capture something.
Have you done a video of what you packed when you went to travel to Paris?
Good job with the photos and this video. I'm with ya on most of the B&W shots except for the girl on the park bench. I just like the ambiance of color in this scene.
I have the issue with shooting a table of people. I like (especially with the 28-70 2.0) to shoot wide open when I can, and like you, I have to remind myself to bring it in a little so everyone is visible.
ThanksJared. Could you have brought the 70-200mm (either 2.8 or 4.0), considering that from certain spots in Paris, a telephoto might be useful? I am asking because I always debate about which lenses to bring while traveling. Thanks, Stefano
What do I think? Love the fabulous collection! And... I wondered what your ears looked like 🤔😉
Giving out free tickets to "the gun show". 😂😂😂 I see you. Lol
I like the color version with the French flag showing prominently!!
Jarad do you overexpose your videos on purpose? ETTR? I love how the skin and reds pop!
"I wanna blend in as much as possible!" With that hairstyle 😂?
I feel like you already did this video from the France pictures
Good job 👏 👍
Look at those noodle arms! lol😁😁
Thank you
11:15 "I want to blend in as much as possible", *says a man with a 3 foot Afro* 😃
amazing b&w! the last photo, use your phone! hahaha
Dammit! What's up with this Click-bait! I was here to get a look at Jared's massive GUNS and, instead, end up watching some video about some portrait in France? So messed up. We want more Jared GUNS!!!!
