One famous stretch near Times Square, where Broadway crosses Seventh Avenue in midtown Manhattan, is the home of many Broadway theatres, housing an ever-changing array of commercial, large-scale plays, particularly musicals. This area of Manhattan is often called the Theater District or the Great White Way, a nickname originating in the headline "Found on the Great White Way" in the edition of February 3, 1902 of the New York Evening Telegram. The journalistic nickname was inspired by the millions of lights on theater marquees and billboard advertisements that illuminate the area. After becoming the city's de facto red-light district in the 1960s and 1970s (as can be seen in the films Taxi Driver and Midnight Cowboy), since the late 1980s Times Square has emerged as a family tourist center, in effect being Disneyfied following the company's purchase and renovation of the New Amsterdam Theatre on 42nd Street in 1993.

Broadway theatre, commonly known as Broadway, refers to the theatrical performances presented in the 41 professional theatres with 500 or more seats located in the Theater District and Lincoln Center along Broadway, in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Along with London's West End theatre, Broadway theatre is widely considered to represent the highest level of commercial theatre in the English-speaking world.
The Theater District is a popular tourist attraction in New York City. According to The Broadway League, for the 2016-2017 season (which ended May 21, 2017), total attendance was 13,270,343 and Broadway shows had US$1,449,399,149 in grosses, with attendance down 0.4%, grosses up 5.5%, and playing weeks down 4.1%.
The great majority of Broadway shows are musicals. Historian Martin Shefter argues, "'Broadway musicals,' culminating in the productions of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, became enormously influential forms of American popular culture" and helped make New York City the cultural capital of the nation.

Midtown Manhattan, or Midtown, represents the central lengthwise portion of the borough and island of Manhattan in New York City. Midtown is home to some of the city's most iconic buildings, including the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and the headquarters of the United Nations, and it contains world-renowned commercial zones such as Rockefeller Center, Broadway, and Times Square.
Midtown Manhattan is the largest central business district in the world and ranks among the most expensive and intensely used pieces of real estate in the world, and Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan commands the world's highest retail rents, at US$3,000 per square foot ($32,000/m2) in 2017. While Lower Manhattan is the main financial center, Midtown is the country's largest commercial, entertainment, and media center. It is also a growing financial center, second in importance only to Lower Manhattan's Financial District in the United States.

With a record 61 million tourists in 2016, Manhattan is often described as the cultural, financial, media, and entertainment capital of the world and the borough hosts the United Nations Headquarters. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world,
New York County is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, with a census-estimated 2016 population of 1,643,734 living in a land area of 22.83 square miles (59.13 km2), or 71,999 residents per square mile (27,799/km2), higher than the density of any individual U.S. city. On business days, the influx of commuters increases this number to over 3.9 million, or more than 170,000 people per square mile (65,600/km2). Manhattan has the third-largest population of New York City's five boroughs, after Brooklyn and Queens, and is the smallest borough in terms of land area.

J Utah Is downtown Manhattan the same as downtown NY?
Hey which camera do you use ?
Yes, it's called Lower Manhattan.
Anuj N but each borough has a downtown. So one city has several downtowns?
No, the downtown is in Manhattan, so Downtown New York would mean Lower Manhattan. None of the other boroughs have a proper downtown.
I don't know if I've told you this before, but one of the things I like about your videos is that they're very raw. You don't do any irritating music or fancy editing, just turning on the camera and driving with the sounds of the city. That's how it should be. It sort of makes us feel like we're in the car with you.
I completely agree with you.
Definitelly!
And he’s not cussing everyone out, makes for a peaceful video
He might be, but we just don't hear it. The camera appears to be mounted on the outside of the car.
Funny, I just thought this as I am watching
Its amazing, I've been living in NYC for 21 years now and it always looks better from this perspective. I need a car.
why would you need a car? not worth your money or your time in traffic. You see more walking at your own pace
Yeah driving in NYC ur not really gonna have time to gawk at buildings. Even the outer boroughs require full concentration on the road.
This is my home town....I've walked these streets since 1967
Thanks
SkyeHawk89 never,Jesus protects me
SkyeHawk89 Dude what's wrong with you? The crime is so low that it's considered the safest city in the USA. You have cops everywhere. I go through the Bronx and I hear nothing bad happening... no gunshots or screams or anything....
SkyeHawk89 I mean yea the mayor though and the govener are complete idiots for letting prices of rents to go up...
SkyRa it’s downtown you can walk with a briefcase of cash and you’ll be totally fine
I am from small country in europe slovakia. Were i watching this videos of yours, i realize how small is my country.
Things have sure changed in New York City since I left my messenger courier job in 2008.
curious what has changed in the past 13 years
Awesome video man
Hey, cool to see u here
Amazing place, driven through here in my 56 Oldsmobile followed by my mate Rob in my old 59 Thunderbird Convertible which he now owns, God Bless America from England UK
Another great video. I have a lot of your video's on watch later. I didn't realize all of the road changes in Manhattan. Due too the new bike lanes. Btw this was so relaxing having someone drive me around.lol. Happy Holidays. Drive safe.
Love comments like these! Glad you found it relaxing. Happy holidays to you as well! :)
I love your videos because they are simple 👍
Must say that your latest videos give the viewers a much better exposure of the surroundings. Very well done indeed. 😊
Thanks for letting me know! :)
You really like seeing driving videos, don't you? 😃 I have seen your comments on this channel, Keep on Driving channel, as well as my channel! 😊
Anuj N Although I'm a terrible driver, I like seeing driving videos since they allow me to experience cities & their flows & vibes. I'm more of a front seat type who only desires to feel the pulse of a city without having to bother at all about following the traffic rules while driving. 😂😂😂
Abhik Banerjee I think that’s the best way to experience new cities. 🤗 You had requested me to do a regular speed video on my Downtown Mumbai video, I am currently uploading a regular speed video filmed with a much better camera, stay tuned brother!
Anuj N excited :)
i love you new York
Took me back memory lane man!
Hi
Thanks for the ride along! :) Longtime subscriber and always look forward to your videos! Love NYC
Really enjoyed watching that thanx for sharing! from Wales UK
Hi
Thanks for the ride, I didn't wait for the lights though. Love that cobble stone street at the end, there were many of those in the 1940s/1950s when I was there.
Marijuana is a wonderful drug. Watching this video I can vividly remember my walk down broadway from feb 2012
I used to drive this route back in 2012 when I was a limo driver in NJ. Daytime is nothing like night (my shift was 5pm to 5am). Nice touch not including music or talk.
I LOVE Driving videos.. Thank you for sharing
i would definitely get in like 5 accidents trying to drive through there
a very beautiful modern city deserves to be imitated and I hope this city in Indonesia can be like this
Wow new York is huge so many sky scrapers thanks you for doing this

Love to hear it friend! Thanks for letting me know :)
Dominik Korgul you must migrate to USA. For Europeans it's simple to migrate USA ,Australia or Canada .
yea, i would like the most migrate to NYC or Chicago. But we must wait, i go to high-school ;)
Dominik Korgul ok 😂😂😂
In case anyone is wondering I'm pretty sure he only records on Sundays for almost every video... else he would be siting in traffic for hours which also explains the lack of pedestrians for some videos since people normally chill on Sundays.
terrific thank you for posting this great reminder of the greatest place on Gods good earth.
too cool no irritating music over the background
Thnx. "We want more " Nice video. As if we were walking there again. We visit NYC almost every year. A great city. Ruud Mulder The Netherlands
CAMRYS ARE EVERYWHERE!
GVGVIT1993 Toyota’s in general are everywhere. From Prius’s to Lexus’s
RIP the much beloved Crown Victorias .
111danish111 ha yeah those used to be everywhere too. Toyota took over
I was going to post this. Every other car is a Camry! 😱
Best sedan to own if all you want to go is get from point A to point B every day without needing repairs. Although they're a bit too long to conveniently parallel park, so I'm surprised how popular they are in crowded northeast cities.

Very wonderful new York city

Thank you for the ride
You have great videos. This is awesome!
D
Great Video! I like the nose-to-tail traffic! What time of day was that about?
Born and raised in the city but I would leave it in an instant and move to London.
Mike Smith I London is safer, and Europeans are more civilized and cultured
Thank you, Thanks a ton !
I loved this city
im fall in love
It's a lovely video, and I really enjoyed it, but I thought that I should clear something up for you: from the time you turn off at 48th street, you're no longer on Broadway for the rest of the video - you're actually on 7th Avenue all the way down as it becomes 7th Avenue South through the village, and then becomes Varick Street. Anyway, it looks great! Cheers!
I think he knows it since there's a previous video called Main Street Broadway, where he follows it tightly (omiting pedestrian section ofcourse), taking numerous turns necessary: ua-cam.com/video/wOLS3VeFuVM/v-deo.html But here he probably just meant Broadway as a 'thetre district' and there are just many theatres on 7th Av fro 47th south, and it also takes, as I mentioned before, a lot of manouvering to omit pedestrian sections of Broadway from 47th to 42nd and 35th to 32nd (I thiink I got it right), where you end up on 7th Av. for some time anyway.
GOOD WORK!
Congratulations
This place looks great! Love from Norway! 💜💜
I would go there in USA city
My dream place
Actually living here, this video gave me anxiety due to the traffic. Flash backs LOL.
I love your videos :)

Cheers Zale!!
Excellency, oh my God
Hi
What camera are you using? looks really good and also no camera shake.
No trees, no grass, and definitely is not for cars ^^, but looks compact and at the same time large
Great canal, just subscribed! Could I know how you record these kind of videos? What kind of vehicle are you driving? The camera is obviously outside and I dont notice engine sounds.
More videos of New York please
beatiful city
Thank you for showing us New York. Big hug!
وما يميز نيويورك ستي انه بلد نظيف والنظافة من الايمان
this is what GTA 4 drive feeling should be. no people went crazy or yelling... just driving across the city... like smoot all over soft concrete paths.
Wow some of the driving of these taxi drivers is atrocious
They make nyc driving horrible. Cuomo needs to lower the damn train fare. After last Friday with garage parking and traffic I will never drive in man-haten again.
@C caymer when did I say $2.75? Also, if you're 2 people it's about the same my. Fare roundtrip from long island is almost up to 25 per person and then you have to take a subway which is about 6 to 7 dollars each roundtrip. It is a little cheaper, but both absurd
@C caymer I live on Long Ialand. I'm in the city quite often. I wouldn't consider myself a tourist.
cool and simple
Please...can you tell me what camera/video equipment you use?
Like the small streets drive
Hey j what it like drvinig around in the snow storm in New York city time quare...cashmere
+1 sub. Keep it up!
Hey J Utah!! Where is the 360°camera? Please , dont remove it .Thank you very much for this video!
Thanks for letting me know! Will be posting the 8K 360 version of his drive shortly!
From razzle dazzle to urban blight and decay in just a few blocks, really shocking.
Is New York a city in which it is a benefit to have a car or does the public transport system actually work there? Beacuse car seems really slow in the central part and almost more efficent would be to have a bike or walk.
awesome
Can i use your Video for my livestreams? It looms very good. A nicht Version would be nice
well done!
Glad you liked it Viking!
Waiting for the 8K 360 version that you said you'd be putting up. However, I have a question about the 8k 360. I run a decent gaming rig with a 980Ti graphics card and i7 Intel 5820K. I use a 4K Gsync 32" monitor. The 8K is very jerky for me. Runs about 10-15fps. The 4K is just fine. It's not a buffering issue I don't think. Anyone else tried running 8K without an 8K monitor?
That’s actually South Wacker Drive, in Chicongo, Il
street condition is so mad, there is no single second to allow me breather
Crazy 😎
No place quite like Broadway!
Here is a suggestion could you add less popular cities like Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Flagstaff, Tucson, Albuquerque etc...
Also instead of just "Downtown" maybe go through some neighborhoods that represent the majority of the city.
Fr there is so much more than just "downtown" Some footage of suburbs also couldn't hurt.
Downtown Phoenix is uneventful. Driving through Cavecreek would be more interesting.
Could've just said arizona lol
I'm going to visit New York next year from Indonesia for 2 weeks. Is that worth it?
Driving looks like a nightmare!
If I ever was in new York I could never look up, seeing the way tall buildings would make me feel dizzy and sick lol
That happened to me alot when I was younger and first saw downtown not so much now I think I'm use to it.
I guess la is the right place for ya
thanks
I’d be heading straight to 205 E. Houston St.!
💝ماشاءالله💝
What gear do you use ?
Would you please make some videos in Paris and other cities in France. Please.
