I (like many here) have watched Will from when he was doing videos out of a camper with a tiny 12 volt 1 battery system and every single video has been solid gold. He has become the definitive go to for no bs hands on solar information. Great job Will, keep doing what you're doing. You are a highly trusted source in a world of smoke and mirrors.
Will, if it wasn't for you, these companies would continue to make dangerous or ineffective products. Thank you for your expertise/ input throughout the years. Happy holidays!
Just purchased 24 of these batteries. They'll be delivered this coming Wednesday. Six Sol-Ark 15k, broken into two banks of 3 Sol-Ark with 12 batteries each. I'm finally building my forever home, so will never need to move these once they're mounted. Also ordered two extra BMSs in case I need them down the road.
@@-PORK-CHOP- House + Shop. Three well pumps + steam room that takes 17kW on its own. I want to be able to be 100% off grid if necessary, although we will be using the grid as backup day-to-day. We are building a ~110kW solar field about 700' from the house. It has definitely been a project.
Yeah Will, I just picked up the same impact as well as an 18V framing saw and even an 18V track saw. The tracksaw makes very nice finish quality cuts. Im currently making the switch to Milwaukee. Thanks Will
When you opened that battery up, I could have sworn I could smell the inside of the battery! You get that anytime you open up a battery and it’s a smell you’ll never forget…😷 I do like the bms serviceability of that battery. Very nice feature!
I've been using my Lithi2-16 to power the majority of my house loads daily since July, paired with a 6000XP. I've not had any issues so far, and it has allowed me to become a net producer of grid power. It's a pretty cool battery for the price.
So this is Europe, but I bought 280Ah 16S batteries directly from China and imported them myself. It only has 100A BMS, but it was 1150USD plus 450USD shipping, so 1700USD + VAT. Have run them for a month and so far very happy with them for my application where the 50A max charging speed isn't a problem. Otherwise very similar to this Ruixu but without the flashy display. It has a very boring screen, but it has all the basic stuff. Supports Pylontech CAN/RS485 so connected to my Deye inverter first try and BMS communication just worked with master/slave batteries.
I went with the modular ETHOS batteries. The are more expensive but they are outdoor rated, has built in fire extinguishers which doesn't make sense for LifePo4 batteries. It's wall mounted and you don't need a rack. They weigh about 70lbs each and are easier to deploy by yourself. You can order from BigBattery and there was no tax or shipping charges!
It would be awesome to see a review of the Basengreen DIY batteries. They have about the same power as these Ruixu or EG4 batteries at about half the price.
Good to see these prices coming down, hopefully tariffs won't kill things too much... Just purchased 16 EVE MB31 cells and making my own pack (First DIY 51.2v, did a 12.8v w/4 EVE LF304s that I've been using) I'll be at about $0.13/wh, looks like this is right around $0.20/wh...
AESC is hired personnel as we read in Florence SC for a Lithium battery plant.. i think they are concentrating on auto batteries not in-building batteries
Wheels seem fine if you push it from a side. Don't push from the front/back or near the top. You should learn as a little child how to knock items over...now as an adult you're learning don't use those techniques when moving heavy items 👏
Over 300 lbs and you want to mount it on the wall ??? I’d resort to ground mounted, stacked or bolted down. Thank you for the review, very informative. ❤
The fact about the casters at the bottom of the unit, i totally agree with you to remove them. That is a weak design. Each of the 4 wheels has to be rated for more than 300 lids (including safety factor), not the whole set of 4 as a total.
On the eg4 vertical battery, you have a direct support for RSD. It's actually quite simple. You plug your eg4 battery into your 6000 XP, you connect an external mushroom switch and when you hit it everything shuts down and the breaker is tripped on the battery. Would you please amend your video to include RSD testing? And would you please start including RSD review in your hardware testing. RSD option is not very expensive. It's fine to ignore RSD on little toy systems for an RV, but when you spend 5 to 25 Grand on hardware, it's pretty silly not to include RSD for the extra safety. The basic tigo modules where you can connect two solar panels per unit are pretty cheap.
Thank you Will! So, since this is closed loop with EG4 inverters....hitting the emergency disconnect on the EG4 inverter will disconnect the ESS / Batteries also?
Yes-disconnecting the EG4 inverter via the emergency disconnect will cut off the connection to both the inverter and the ESS/battery, which is a standard safety feature. Especially if the system is set up in a closed loop.
I like how you look at how easy it can be to replace a BMS in teh batteries you review, but it makes me wonder if a BMS fails in a few years and needs to be replaced, will a suitable one be available for purchase?
Any thoughts on ordering batteries now for a project 2 years down the road knowing tariffs are coming and possibly loosing the 30% rebate in the future? I cant imagine them being cheaper in two years but there’s still a lot of innovation going on too.
I'm thinking along these lines too. These are not buy and forget items. They need a charge to be maintained. Also, I'd not wait too long, there is a Calendar Aging aspect to their longevity.
Thanks for that video, one observation, could you place them horizontally on the floor? For the battery cells they would be horizontal and not vertical? Or does that have no influence on performance at all, thanks
Awesome video and information! Thank you! Don't know if I missed a video about Vatrer batteries and if you can use them with the EG4 systems or if someone has done it. Any knowledge about this would be appreciated! Seems like it wouldn't be a issue. Thanks
It should be mounted vertically only. Mounting it flat or on its side could impact its performance and safety, since these batteries are designed with specific orientation in mind for optimal cooling and internal component arrangement.
Yes it will work with an Asian version of a Luxpower inverter as long as the inverter supports 48V systems. If you'd also like it to communicate with the battery (not strictly required, but I would strongly recommend), make sure that the Luxpower inverter supports either RS485 and Canbus communications.
Thanks for the review, was looking at that battery recently. In the pst tariffs didn’t apply to individuals purchasing goods for themselves, only to companies that resell. Hopefully that will continue.
Dunno about those tariffs? I'm ordering another 45kwh in cells with boxes and inverter BMS's right after the 1st to get ahead of any more tariffs that might be coming. Miss Amy is still dishing up deals nobody else can touch that I've been able to find. Customs is tacking on their duties now kicking up shipping a little but bottom line is price delivered is still cheaper than the last order of the same size.
The tariffs will affect all batteries since the cells are made in China that go into all batteries. I don't know of any that are actually made in the USA.
