It's like these singers are getting a year's worth of basic technique in a few minutes with Ms. Fleming! She really has a hardcore technique, and it's hard to tell just listening whether people come with massive technique or are just natural singers. I'd say she's a natural singer who knows her stuff! Beautiful and funny and warm too. What a gift these videos are to even just a fan of opera like me. Awesome & thanks so much for sharing.
I was surprised that the student in the blue dress was holding back from using the middle register as fully as she might. I happened to hear her at Oxford about two years before this masterclass, when she sung Tullia in Ottone in Villa, and in the da capo of the aria "Due tiranni" she did not disdain to employ the chest voice over an entire octave (from the G immediately below to the G immediately above middle C).
Renee has given basic voice placement advice. They should have received this much earlier in their voice studies. Renee has really helped these singers.
they probably have but it takes years and years to keep everything well placed when singing actual text. Singing is nothing but breath and resonance, if you got these two down and working perfectly all the time then you will be best singer in the world :P
Thank you for this reply. Yes it does take many years to achieve a great level. To some degree it helps to be really gifted in the first place, and then it is one has to learn the craft. Renee gave an indication of the next stage for these lucky students.
zura iashvili Renee Fleming really can show how to sing. From Puccini's Manon Lescaut she sang " In QuelleTrine Morbide" from Russia published by Damian Ga on 20 June 2012. I consider this to be absolutely spot on. I just love it.
Inutile.. non conosce l'italiano..come può spiegargli cos'è la bramosia che hanno gli uomini verso le donne? Recitar cantando, pensando a quello che si dice.
Such excellent advice from which any singer can benefit. One of the best master class mentors I've seen.

Renée's understanding of the physiology and the mechanics of singing is truly inspiring.
Thanks so much for sharing this! It's wonderful to be able to listen to her and all this beautiful voices and great singers!

doug foote i especially like her advice about support, i think most of the students lack it and i think her way of support is indeed the correct one.

Recitar cantando, pensando a quello che si dice.
Cordiale, mais froide, et professionnelle à l'américaine.
I think the British reserved temperament can be an inhibitor to performing and singing with one's soul because the soul is shamed.
