I look forward to your videos because I always learn something!! I love Germany and you always take us to wonderful German places. Beautiful pipe. I saw Pipes and Kayaks video with his two new pipes from the same pipe maker. They were beautiful too. I have to get a good meerschaum pipe. I think I owe myself that smoking experience!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge my friend. Cheers, Mike.
Hello Mike! Thanks for taking the time...and good words! Yeah...give it a shot! I don't think, you will ever regret it...haven't heard about someone, who did so far... Take care! Be well! Mark

Revisited this video because I'm revisiting Black Parrot. Such a pleasant, enjoyable and good tobbaco. I'm smoking it while posting this message. The first bowl from a freshly opend tin. Thanks Mark, for introducing me to this wondeful tobacco😀
I enjoy your videos, reminds me of my childhood growing up in Germany (was born in Wilhemshaven). I have been in the USA since 1973, keep up the good work.
Personally I enjoy listening to your "2cents" and I happen to agree with your comments. I have been disappointed so many times with the 'big boys' stuff - pipe tobacco and cigars - that being said IMHO a pricy cigar is always better than a cheap one. For the past couple of years I have focused on C&D burleys in bulk - most reasonably priced and excellent for me. There is a lot of the expensive stuff in my cellar but methinks it shall continue to age. Your videos are most appreciated and I truly look forward to them each week - thank you. Take care and God bless Jim
Jim, my friend! Thank you so much for taking the time...and most kind words! Appreciated by heart! And...yeah...I completely agree on your opinion... and the C&D tobaccos are really reliable, when it comes to the quality... Take care! Hope, you are well! Mark
Another great vid thanks BPS....I must also thank you for informing us about the horribly underrated tobaccos HU produces in particular the Foundation series all of them are pretty amazing blends.
Mark, thanks for this review, I'll have to sample that tobacco ! The extra piece of silver looks good on that pipe. Your reviews are always welcome and refreshingly entertaining. I hope you made it home !! Kieran
Hello Kieran, my friend! Thanks for taking the time...and yeah...LOL...made it back...and I'm already out and about again...LOL... On vacation in France...video will come up soon... Take care! Be well! Mark
Hi Mark, I was speaking about Robert McConnell with an italian pipe presenter last week and I totally agree...it is an underestimated brand...even in Italy where we have not as much choice as in Germany... In general, it will be nice and greatly appreciated if you could go on highlighting those kind of blends/brends (for what I can see you are doing it already...in a great way as usual)... Thank you for sharing Mark... I wish you all the best my friend...
Completely agree about the naming convention, or lack thereof, on the different blends. That was a nice crop circle, oh I mean sand circle, in the background-maybe some strange activity in the north German Dessert. Thanks for taking us along and the review. All the best. -Joe
Mark, if you ever tire of tobacco videos you MUST begin stand-up/comedy videos: as you read the tin description your disparaging, sardonic, tone/expressions were PRICELESS!
Guten Tag Mark, I've never heard of 'Black Parrot' before, I've tried to find it here in UK but no luck, only the other blends like 'Glen Piper', 'Turkish' or 'Maduro' by Rob McConnell. I will again be visiting Germany in December (Düsseldorf) so I hope to find some. Thanks for your reviews and bringing these not well known blends to our attention, cheers.
Cool. I just got back from 2 weeks in Germany. Stayed in Nordstrand. I got to Moztek in Kiel a couple of times. I did find inexpensive pipe tobacco, but had to go to Helgoland to find it. Thanks for another informative video. - from a real desert dweller (Arizona)
Thank you so much for watching...and very interesting comment! Yeah...Helgoland is special, when it comes to tobacco...that's traditional... :-) Glad, you found it... All the best from Bremen to Arizona! And take care! Mark
Fascinating, I can say your tastes and mine align well, still loving the Dunn Hill Dark Flake. Now I need to find this one. By the way, my home province of New Brunswick is so much like northern Germany it is uncanny. We have a small wandering desert like this. Odd to see it in the winter covered in snow but drifting like dunes. Also your intro, I kept waiting for you to say "and now for something completely different" .
Thank you so much for that, David! Truly appreciated! Yeah...well...perhaps, the old settlers didn't call it "New Brunswick" for nothing.. :-) Perhaps, I gonna do a video about the "old Brunswick" one day...the home of the Guelf noble family in medieval times... Take care! Hope, you are well! Mark
You bring up an interesting point about branding Mark. No matter what we think, we’re all affected by branding in some way (expectation and perception). I personally really enjoy Orlik Golden Sliced and Racing Green and I’m glad that they’re cheap and always available but I can’t help but keep an eye for Esoterica blends, which I have never found to be available anywhere by the way! As for shelf space, you would have to ask Ronny if it applies to the pipe tobacco industry but I know that many brand names have pre-allocated shelves in grocery stores because it has an effect on sales (eye level or right at the entrance and close to the cash register for instance). The store manager has no choice, he either reserves the best areas to the big names or the manufacturers simply won’t supply him with any or their products or if they do, it will be at a higher price! Some brands can even dictate whether a competitor will be sold or not in a store or a chain, I've witnessed this with artisanal beers produced by microbreweries.
I just watched your video, i totally agree regarding underrated tobacco. My list of current favorite pipe tobacco is mostly underrated :) 1. ROBERT MCCONNELL ORIENTAL 2. RATTRAY'S RED RAPPAREE (for me absolutely identical with ROBERT MCCONNELL ORIENTAL) 3. RATTRAY'S HIGHLAND TARGE 4. ROBERT MCCONNELL OLD LONDON PEBBLE CUT 5. RATTRAY'S MARLIN FLAKE 6. SOLANI AGED BURLEY FLAKE BLEND 7. ETERSON EARLY MORNING PIPE Next..i should try Robert McConnell's Black Parrot .
Mark brother!!!! How are you doing? Well I think you are one of the best presenters out there. Was surprised to see that spot in Germany wow!! I have been enjoying the Solani silver flake.... I will definitely try the Robert Mcconnell Scottish flake.. Tough to find for some reason.. You be well my friend take care see you again soon thanks again for your kindness and friendship
Brad, brother! Thank you so much for that! And...Birinci gave me an email...he was very touched by your good words! Take care, my friend! We gonna talk soon! Mark
Bremen Pipe Smoker Mark thank you brother I'm so glad to hear that he really did a great job I owe it all to you my friend thanks again brother be well see you soon take care, 😁😂👍👍👍
another great video my friend that tobacco sounds good to me I have never heard of it , sand in the middle of nowhere that's crazy thanks for bringing us along , hit me up on voxer when you get time my friend and keep on choochin the good baccy
As usual Mark, another great video. Your pronunciation of the word parrot makes me wonder where the heck the English pronunciation comes from? Now that I actually look at the word you are probably correct, how we got 'pair rhet' or 'pair ret' if you prefer is beyond me. I really do enjoy the educational/geographical aspects of your presentations as much as I enjoy your thoughts on the tobacco you have chosen.
Excellent video as always Mark! I would like to try this blend and I found it at schneiderwind.de. Thanks for bringing us a Tobacco that many have not heard of. Smoke well!
Have you tried soaking a bit of the tobacco with rum, could be good, and then it would fit the name better. I have tried that one with a virginia flake and it worked really well. If I manage to find one of the Robert McConnel tobaccos I will try it
I have experienced a very similar phenomenon with a number of McClelland blends. Not commonly available in the shops, not a lot of reviews or discussions about them on the internet, etc. And yet they are great blends and you have to wonder how everyone else has overlooked it.
Thank you so much for taking the time...and very interesting comment, my friend! Yeah...my feeling sometimes is, that McClelland (or at least the image of their tobaccos) sometimes stands in the shadow of C&D and their really good tobaccos...which everyone is just crazy about... but...that's just a thought... :-) Take care! Hope, you are well! Mark
Bremen Pipe Smoker Many of McClelland's "club" blends fall into that category of both obscurity and excellence. Also, I am going to be in the minority when I say this, but if you ask my opinion, McClelland as a whole is way better than C&D...especially where Virginias are concerned. Also, it could be that I am just crazy (entirely possible, haha), but it seems like C&D occasionally sneaks some Burley into their blends and then fails to mention it. Anyway, very interesting location, keep up the good work!
hello Mark very nice review of this blend definitely must try this blend thanks so much for sharing buddy happy smokes my friend ☺☺☺☺☺👍👍👍👍👍👍 best regards Peter
Great video! I'm still searching for blends I haven't heard of, from blenders and companies I don't hear too much about. I kind of shy away from the conventional ones everyone talks about. Take care. That's a beautiful pipe!
Guten Tag, Mark, this pipe looks so gorgeous, suits you well, I'd love to spent my summer day at these dunes, well as for underrated tobaccoes, I'm noticing many so called OTC tobaccoes being badly underrated even if the quality had improved mainly thanks to the change of producer(my hat s off to Mc barens)in Germany there are quite a number of these underrated blends ,let me name some of those,Prestige mixture,Exlusive Blue by Pösch tobacco,Amphora, Clan ,Richmond Flake&mixture,Zeppelin, and some others, many of these brands saw their haydays between 60-80ies, Best Greets, Paul
Hello Paul, my friend! Thank you so much for that! Yeah...these are really good hints on other underrated tobaccos... Thanks for that! Hope, you are well! And take care! Mark
Hi Mark! Thank you for the very interesting video and I totally agree with you. I love Robert McConnell's "Old London Pebble Cut". Unfortunately, I have to order it in Germany (shipping and duty cost :-(, but with my next order there will be some "Black Parrot", for sure! Thank you for the hint and I will looking forward seeing you here on youtube. Greetings from Zurich, Armin
Hello Armin! Thanks for taking the time..and very interesting comment! Yeah...I sometimes forget about the high costs for shipping to Swiss..., cos EU-shipping is just 3,70 per 500g... Fortunately, I got a friend in Zurich, bringing me some nice stuff from the Tabaklädeli several times a year... Perhaps, they could do some orders for you? They already put the "Caramel Rush" in stock for me... Take care! Be well! Mark
@@bremenpipesmoker6571 Hallo Mark! Just a few days ago I finished a tin of "Old London Pebble Cut" from R. McConnell and then I decided to open my only tin of "Black Parrot". And I have to say, it is really great tobacco. It is peppery with a good sweetness from the virginias - I really enjoy it! For me another great tobacco from R. McConnell next to the Old London Pebble Cut. Thanks for sharing your impressions! Take care and be well. Armin from Zurich
Beautiful place , that pipe is piece of art , actually i also asked Ali Birinci for s new pipe and hopefully i will receive it the next week , it is a big and beautiful pipe and has Poker shape , he is really a master. Could i ask you about the stem maker in Hamburg ? I fly to Hamburg usually and actually i have problem with some stems so i will appreciate if you let me have info about it.
...sorry for being late! Well...hope, you'll enjoy the new Birinci! For the stems, you can contact "Janzen" in Hamburg...or just send it to him... he'll do a pretty fine job, you shouldn't be disappointed.. Take care! Be well! Mark
Hello Mark I finally got my pipe and it looks nice. I wish i could share its photo here. I found janzen website and it is fantastic, they are really expects. I really appreciate your help and useful info. Best regards Hosein
Hello Mark, when it comes to Robert McConnell I really like the Cruise Line Tobacco with Chocolate Flavour. But I have to order it via internet because I am not able to find any Robert McConnell in a shop nearby. And with nearby I mean a few Tobacco-Shops a few Kilometres away from my hometown Hagen, NRW. Here, you have no more real Tobacco-Shops. A really sad situation. Maybe I can make a history video, too. "Here was Shop X, there was Shop Y... and so on" ;-) Well, I have to live with it. Sometimes I think, I am really in a desert. Really interesting to see places here in Germany, I never thought they exist. And that for a German. Hope you found the way out of it, with enough water in the backpack. Have a nice day! Andreas
Hello Andreas! Yeah...found my way...LOL Thank you so much taking the time ... and very interesting comment! It's a sad situation regarding the shops... let's hope, for better times... Meanwhile, we have to "fall back" on the internet order... I guess.. Take care! Hope, you are well! Mark
That's almost an irritating description on the can. In my opinion. Nevertheless, it's on my long list to try, if it's even available anymore? They almost describe the Cavendish method? Pressing and heat...
Yep, that's a good one for sure. I remember the first bowl of that we tried at Ronny's. Broke out the brown flake yesterday, very good, but I agree with opinion that it is over rated due to it being hard to get. Now I say that with a full knowledge that I will smoke this run down in a week or so. Take care and happy smokes. Kent
Hello Mark, very interesting video. What an unusual place there...the lone dune...glad they protected this place. It seems as though you could say "underrated" to the entire McConnell group of tobacco, they are really off the radar for the most part, not talked about much....perhaps they're not the best tobaccos (whatever that may mean), but certainly deserve more attention than they get. Tobacco is susceptible to trends and fan fare just like many things....which leads to "overrated" blends and producers. I have at least one on my list that I plan to do a quick review on soon, we'll see.... Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic, very good thoughts. Take care my friend, we'll talk soon, Corey
Corey, my good friend! Thank you so much for taking the time...and very good comment! As always so much appreciated! We gonna talk soon! Take care! Hope, you are well! Mark
Original Oriental, Scottish Cake, Scottish Flake, and Folded Flake - are some of my top favorites. I have found some Latakia Flake and vintage Pure Latakia and Special London Mature also - harder to find on web retailers. Scottish Cake may be one of my favorites ever. Smooth, complex, natural sweetness and complexity. Wonderful stuff. I always have my eye out for them - Black Parrot sounds great, but I don't think RM exports 100g tins to the U.S. - I don't recall ever seeing it. Cheers! :-)
Sometimes I feel like a weird stalker watching your videos when you're talking about your personal life LoL I just got my first Vauen pipe and I'm looking for a nice tobacco to try.. I think I'll have to watch a few more videos - which are really appreciated, thank you for sharing your thoughts Mark, take care.. Sara
Have you been aware of the circle you just passed (it shows right behind you on the fotage) There is a really fantastic German music group ,the Faun .They play all kind of Pagan music mixed with folk elements (they have my highest reference) So they had made a great video that year ,and the title of the song is Walpurgis Nacht .Is awesome ,listen it please if you can also in the video you can recognize straight away this location.
.. yeah... think I already heard about faun... I gonna look into that... thanks for the hint! And for taking the time! As always truly appreciated! Take care and be well! Mark
@@bremenpipesmoker6571 Thank you for your great reflection Mark.I got my very first mershaum pipe finally. She is an estate .You said that mershaums can not be haunted ,that the cant pick up ghosts .I think it is a myth cause my one is badly haunted ,the awful lakeland essence .I tried Deni-Clean (great product and let the stem soak in lukewarm water .My exocism fail so far the ghost is still in the pipe .I think im just gonna try to smoke it out ;-(
Hello Matthew! Thanks for that! And .. yeah...got your message...but for any reasons, I can't answer that by YT PM...? Don't know, what going wrong there... Anyway...it depends really on what your associations with X-mas are...many producers just think about bakery goods, I think...and that brings em to the aros... but if you're more about the chimney fire, a plumcake (that's one of John's suggestions for this time) will be fine... an HH Mac Baren Latakia Flake will be also good... But if you're more for the naturals without Latakia, I suggest, you give the scottish Cake a shot...or one the HU's ...perhaps Makhuwa could be nice.. Take care! Be well! Mark

Take care! Be well!

Like "Black Parrot" very much - and it´s available in Kiel :-) Thank´s for the video!
Thanks for taking the time...and for the hint!
Take care!

Take care! Be well!

Hello Mark
I finally got my pipe and it looks nice.
I wish i could share its photo here.
I found janzen website and it is fantastic, they are really expects.
I really appreciate your help and useful info.

Hello Mark,
when it comes to Robert McConnell I really like the Cruise Line Tobacco with Chocolate Flavour. "Here was Shop X, there was Shop Y... and so on" ;-)
Well, I have to live with it.

Kent
Kent, brother!
Thanks a lot for taking the time...and good comment!
We'll talk soon! Hope, you are well!

Take care my friend, we'll talk soon,
Corey
Corey, my good friend!

Sara
Thanks a lot for that, my friend!

@@bremenpipesmoker6571 Thank you for your great reflection Mark.I got my very first mershaum pipe finally. She is an estate .You said that mershaums can not be haunted ,that the cant pick up ghosts .I think it is a myth cause my one is badly haunted ,the awful lakeland essence .I tried Deni-Clean (great product and let the stem soak in lukewarm water .My exocism fail so far the ghost is still in the pipe .I think im just gonna try to smoke it out ;-(
Well done Mark!
Great video, love the pipe.
Thanks for that, Gary! Much appreciated!
Take care!
Mark
Great video
Ahhhhh....the fauna and flora of the German Sahara....LOL. Where are the camel’s.... hope you are well!!! 👍
...LOL...yeah, I could have had some use for that.. :-)
Thanks for taking the time, my friend! Hope, you are well!
Take care!
Mark
Great video, interesting tobacco! I sent you a PM. Take care, M.
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Hello, yeah they change something in mesages. Thank's for that, great tobaccos. I like it when you say chimney fire :) haha. Be great! M.
Parrot like Parrut. The T is sounded out. It’s not silent.
Yeah...I knew it the moment, I watched the footage...lol...thanks for the hint anyway..
Take care! Be well!
