I hope consumers here in the US get over the whole "dieselgate" incident because VW cars are a great cars and it'll be a shame if they keep taking financial hit and stop sending over models to the US.
That's not the top of the line model, the high end models in US are labeled SEL Premium. That's just a R-Line. R-Line is 1 notch above S, below SE. Great video!
Ross Settle where is "over here"? Dubai? 😂 Touareg is one elegant car, the design is a little old now. That's why a new Touareg with a whole new design is coming at the end of this year.
the design looks like a mixture of Dacia Duster and Range Rover or a stretched Tiguan but I think that the design doesn't matter, the practicality matters more. and it looks very practical.
WOW! Massive SUV! It´s a really good idea from VW to bring a SUV like this to such an important market like the USA. But especially with the R-Line package the ATLAS looks great! I also like the VR6 engine, but why isn´t it available in Europe ?!?
In July 2018, I purchased a VW flagship version of Teramont 530V6 (2.5T) in Shenzhen, China. While I driving to 4000 kilometers, a brake failure was found. At the same time, I found that the engine was seriously leaking oil. The whole vehicle suddenly stopped running two times so far, You have to restart before you can drive. The problem has not been completely solved by looking for manufacturers and distributors many times. This problem brings a lot of troubles to my life, and I lose my confidence in Volkswagen. This case can be used for your reference when you want to buy a SAIC Volkswagen。

Wait R-Design is Volvo! I have one! 😉. Regardless, another excellent detailed review Thomas! Ive said before I'm no fan of this current VW design language, but it has a strong presence for the average American consumer (think F150 down to Subaru Outback). I would have to compare closer in person, but I can not understand why one would choose this over the more attractive and more reliable Toyota Highlander. The other Asians like Kia and Honda also seem to outclass this in most aspects. Looking forward to comparison reviews! Safe travels!
Now, you have only to drive it 😊 I like the atlas and I hope that we see a few Imports here in germany or europe. By the way, do you see the chance that you can drive it some day to give us a little report?
I told you all this car was a "Home Run" when it came out and now look: " With that said, VW SUVs historically haven’t sold that well on Ameican soil (some think it’s due to their awkward-to-pronounce names), aside from the all-new three-row Atlas SUV, which has been a home run." Everyone I talk to(I am in Amercia) loves loves LOVES this vehicle.... VW needs to change....they are leaving money on the table...they could sell many more vehicles than they do now if they would just listen..... Everything is not revolved around beauty and luxury.....practicality and utility are what most people want.
This is what I though but I think it's a mistake here in Canada most people buy AWD models if available and then if you want AWD you have to get a VR6 witch is heavier and takes more room in the engine bay makes harder to service and repair but I think here in Canada they might make it AWD with the 4 cylinder I don't think the Atlas would be any heavier than let say a Audi Q5 with Quattro and the 2.0 l engine.
Were is Kia Stinger?! Show us new kia. -space of the rear passengers ? - What's the driver's position? like on the Kia Optima or lower? - How high of the trunk? - What, the rear suspension? - full drive? - Air hole on the hood, real or plastic? - when will be in Europe?
bartekzz1 there are rumors tha the touareg is coming or shown this year. Many print magazines like “Die Autobild“, “Autozeitung“, “Auto Straßen Verkehr“ told, that the next model of Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg should shown this year. But, till know, I think only VW knows when it is time.
Stefan, so too I follow these magazines and some time ago I heard about April, with the last of November. I thought that you in Germany know about it accurately. What is perhaps Q7 :) Thanks for all the answers.
The Q7 is a model from Audi and is also an SUV. For now, it is the most expensive and biggest SUV from Audi. It shares the platform (MLB = modularer Längsmotoren Baukasten) with the Bentley Bentayga. But in the future also with the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg.
VW Atlas, which VW says is designed for North America, built in North America (Tennessee), is the same vehicle as the Chinese VW Teramont. So Atlas isn't just a North American vehicle, for North America. China is getting an exact replica (to Chinese specs).....

Not wearing animal skin clothes anymore due to the same reasons I refrain from using that on a seat. Here we go. First to the practical reasons: 1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat 2. they are cold in winter 3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling 4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa 5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done. Still, now to the environmental reasons: 1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body. 2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below) 3. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. 4. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? Would you say a cow only got slaughtered for the meat in the leg and thus it got slaughtered for the meat in the neck anyway? That doesn’t make sense. 5. So to the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/ 6. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". An the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy. Special videos: 1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html 2. And another one right here: ua-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/v-deo.html 3. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ua-cam.com/video/OgHs239bAnE/v-deo.html Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!
funny how when he sat in the third row he didn't slide the seat back and talks how there is so much room. plus that's a 8 passenger car hence third row has a middle seat. anyway seems like alot of bad info
Obviously you 1. didn't watch the video properly and 2. have no clue about this car. I advise you to watch it all over again in full length. The Volkswagen Atlas is a 7-seater car. Period. No 8 seats, we dont even have to argue about this, everyone can see it in both of our reviews and every VW representative will confirm. There isnt a single source on the web saying it is a 8 seater. And my second and third row assessment clearly shows that I could sit in the 2nd row with the bench exactly in the position I had it when I was in the third row. That was a clear visual proof that 7 guys of my size can sit in this car.
I drive a VW. I'm a fan of this company's products. However, this looks like it lacks either cuteness or character that is typical of a Volkswagen. It is neither cute, or curios looking, like the new Beetle or VW thing. I wouldn't buy it.
Compared to Concept T-Prime this Atlas R-Line is just so astonishingly boring. Volkswagen has turned into what Volvo used to be with their safe and secure design from the yesteryears.
Yes am pretty sure of that. Do think Volkswagen is somehow trying to meet halfway with peoples' expectations which is why the safe yet bland looks.. the cabin design/ergonomics they got from studying their sister company Audi which is good.
This looks too American, like an Explorer and Jeep had a baby. I understand why they did it and they want to capture a certain market, but why try to look American? You're a German brand, that's what people want, not some hybrid basic looking American car. If you took the badges off I would never think this is a VW and that's not good for branding. I'm still going to take a look, I am in the market for a bigger SUV, but if this blah, I'll probably hold off for the 18' Touareg or something else.
Holy this thing is huge. Gives me an excuse to acquire a slave army and I wouldn't even need a 2nd car. hmmmmm imagining a different paint job.... content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2088972_2088978_2089008,00.html
I hope consumers here in the US get over the whole "dieselgate" incident because VW cars are a great cars and it'll be a shame if they keep taking financial hit and stop sending over models to the US.
I have a diesel and will buy VW again.
It's hard to believe it's not in the biggest SUV class in the US market. It looks huge.
Put a GMC Yukon Denali right next to it and you'll see what he's talking about. :P
VW should offer the Atlas in Europe. It is less premium compared to a Toureg but offers more space for large families.
That's not the top of the line model, the high end models in US are labeled SEL Premium. That's just a R-Line. R-Line is 1 notch above S, below SE. Great video!
I'm not a fan of the exterior design. What I like about my Touareg, and many other Volkswagens, is how elegant and European it looks.
Ross Settle where is "over here"? Dubai? 😂 Touareg is one elegant car, the design is a little old now. That's why a new Touareg with a whole new design is coming at the end of this year.
I sat in a base Touareg a few weeks ago and wow what a beautiful SUV and it was 5k reduced but it had a sunroof and I dont like them.
Detail and I like your German approach. Looks like a comfortable car for a large family and would buy it over the American alternatives.
thanks! Also check out the full driving review: ua-cam.com/video/8yOB4Ddxcr8/v-deo.html
Wow Thomas I am like 450 km from Detroit when you are leaving ... I would like meet you one day..

car addicted little or no demand for big 7 seat SUVs? Gas too expensive? Vehicle too big for European streets and parking garages? Who knows.

I would buy this car if available in Europe no problem

thinking the same. I have already asked for it, there is no schedule yet but i ll keep u updated
great review ... seems more authentic having a German review a VW lol
thanks pal !
Does anyone know when it will be available for test drive reviews? How off road capable will it be?

Please do a commentary on the new Toyota Camry since your in Detroit
yes, planning that for tomorrow.
So, is this like a new amarok or a completely new model? Also is it gonna be available in europe?
this one is on MQB platform. Not for Europe.
Looks great for tall people like myself.
Is the Atlas available in AWD with the 4 cylinder engine ? You did not specify .
i do believe that the AWD system will only be on the V6 from what i understand from other research but i could be wrong
Thomas can you please tell me if you plan to review the new Renault Grand Scenic maybe?
hey m8, Renault wont hand out cars for most online media atm regretfully...
Autogefühl baaah this really sucks. So no renault reviews anymore?
Were is Kia Stinger?! Show us new kia.
-space of the rear passengers ?
- What's the driver's position? like on the Kia Optima or lower?

- What, the rear suspension?
- full drive?

Looks like a rectangle altho to us market doesnt look awful
Way to block that guy in there while you finish lol. Looks great for what it is. Too bad no TDI my Passat gets 45mpg easy.
In this segment, I’m more impressed with the Subaru Ascent, or for a bit more $, the Acura MDX.
Hi, do you know when will be new Vw Touareq this year, because I use from 2012, have 200 000 km and expects the new model.

Thomas, it's R-Line and not R-design as you say twice in the video. R-design is Volvos brand for the R trim. Just a heads up. Cheers!
Interesting name for the car.
Identical to the VW Teramont in the Asian market
i hope they released this in India
vinish shetty won’t happen.. India doesn’t even have Golf GTI
That side character line reminds me too much of the Mitsubishi Endeavor and Raider.
Fake exhaust is on all models.. Tips stay clean also no exhaust build up on bumper
leather shoes or maybe belt?

Un Skoda Kodiak checo tamaño xl a precio doble al habitual
+Antonio Sánchez no the kodiaq is like tiguan allspace, review coming up!
👍
VW just changes dimensions of one and the same car. In category of boredom and predictability all the rewards go to Volkswagen.
they use the same plattform for several models yes.. just like every car manufacturer..
The same car with Skoda Kodiaq.
Not all Americans overindulge !!!!
I hate the design.
This looks like a mash of American cars and the HP is weak. Why even bother with a 4 cylinder?
try to use better words
big words man...
