The Dazzlings: How to make your antagonist iconic

- Yep, it was about time I talked about the Dazzlings. Something about their appearance in Rainbow Rocks made them arguably the best antagonists in the series. Now let's take a look why that is. This sort of counts as an analysis, I guess? Although it's just me trying to explain my thoughts.

And Adagio, who's the leader and also hates everyone." Is just so funny and true.
Basically Monsterverse King Ghidorah.
One of the things i like about them is that they're like the dark mirror of the actions of the protagonists in the first movie. For example: The "Battle of bands" song is like a dark and corrupt version of the "Cafeteria song" of the previous film, even to the point of emulating some small sequences.
A thing that i find really interesting is how their gem collar things can be interpreted as a dark reflection of the elements of harmony, while the latter are powered by good energy and unity although still in varied ways that depend on the individuals, the dazzlings feed of negativity and lack of harmony between people, all of them watered down to the same thought process of distrust and distaste towards each other that results in a senseless battle for dominance
They are why Rainbow Rocks is the best movie of the four. Everything was structured to make them work both as characters and a threat. It also helps that they were smarter than most antagonists:
Adagio figures out they have magic to counter theirs and in turn, uses their spell on the students to break them down.
They already know Sunset's backstory and make good points on why she isn't part of the band, making her doubt herself.
They would have won if Sunset didn't push through and sung with the Rainbooms.
Plus, their songs are indeed bangers.
Their return in Backstage Pass was all right, it was more of 'what they're doing now' since they don't have powers anymore. People kinda put their expectations too high for them to return as villains, but I prefer them learning their lesson.

One thing I noticed about Adagio's character is that she's consistenly polite and modest (outside of the stage and her private conversations with Aria and Sonata).
Adagio is the opposite of those cartoon villains that act mean and arrogant for no reason despite it having no benefit to their plan.
Maybe Adagio is trying to making a distinction between her "real" self and her "stage" persona (because on stage their lyrics are very boastful and provocative).
Maybe Adagio is trying to be extra nice or at least polite in person to avoid being seen as jerk.
I also suspect Adagio might be trying to be polite and modest to compensate for how she acts on stage (since her on-stage interpretation could be seen as arrogant).
This is a strategy that real world artists use, in fact, and it works reasonably well and reduces the chances of them being hated or causing controversy.
I think this is why they stand out:
-They sing. Every villain before RR, excluding Crysalis, didn't sing. They also have the most villain songs.
-They work together. They're the only ones to work together before season nine, and the only who willingly worked together at that. There's also no backstabbing, unlike Tirek and Discord.
-They have unique outfits. Come on, has any other villain had that kind of style or wardrobe?
-Not reformed. They are the only who weren't reformed in the entirety of EQG.
FUN FACT: Aria's name wasn't mentioned in the movie, outside of credits. (Same goes with Queen Crysalis before season six.)
Sunset's backstage pass kinda makes me wonder if they actually are reformed or not

They were kinda sorta reformed. Like they didn’t do a full 180 and become good/part of the main 7(?), but they’re not up to their evil crap anymore. They’re finally going their own path.
Rainbow Rocks may not be a perfect movie, but the people sure knew what they were doing with the Dazzlings. No other antagonist was able to top or even match them imo. :)
Dazzlings are definitely the best Antagonist from the first movie

I just realized the scene sunset cornered by the dazzlings in the dark locker room hallway looks similar to the one sunset did to twilight in first movie

**Sunset Shimmer:** (walking in hesitantly) Of course, Mr. Thorfy. Is something wrong?
**Thorfy:** (turning to face her, his expression stern but calm) Yes, there is. I've been hearing troubling things about your recent interactions with some of the other students, particularly the Dazzlings.
**Sunset Shimmer:** (sighing, her shoulders slumping) I know, but you have to understand, the Dazzlings are dangerous. They tried to take over the school with their magic. They were manipulating everyone.
**Thorfy:** (raising a hand to stop her) Sunset, I am aware of what they did. But this is not about what they did; it is about how you responded. You made them your enemies, and that is where you went wrong.
**Sunset Shimmer:** (frowning) But they were hurting people. What was I supposed to do? Just let them?
**Thorfy:** (shaking his head) No, Sunset. You should have sought a way to neutralize their threat without turning them into enemies. There is a trend, a philosophy, if you will, that you seem to have forgotten: 'I have no enemies.' It means finding a way to deal with conflicts without making adversaries.
**Sunset Shimmer:** (confused) How could I do that with the Dazzlings? They were using dark magic.
**Thorfy:** (leaning against his desk, his expression softening slightly) I understand that it is not always easy, especially in the heat of the moment. But by making the Dazzlings your enemies, you only fueled their animosity and made the situation worse. You must strive to understand your opponents, to find common ground if possible, and to defuse conflicts without creating more.
**Sunset Shimmer:** (frustrated) But I tried to help them, I really did. After the Battle of the Bands, I reached out, but they didn’t want anything to do with me. What was I supposed to do then?
**Thorfy:** (nodding slowly) Sometimes, despite our best efforts, people are not ready to change. But that does not mean we should give up on the principle. You have to be patient, consistent, and above all, unwavering in your commitment to not making enemies. Reflect on how you handled things. Could there have been a different approach, even after their initial rejection?
**Sunset Shimmer:** (thoughtful) Maybe... Maybe I was too quick to judge them after they turned me away. I just felt like I had to protect everyone.
**Thorfy:** (softening his tone) Protecting others is noble, Sunset. But you must remember the consequences of your actions here in Canterlot High. You know firsthand how easy it is to be seen as a villain and how hard it is to redeem yourself. Don't put others in that same position if you can help it.
**Sunset Shimmer:** (nodding) I see your point, Mr. Thorfy. It's just... hard.
**Thorfy:** (smiling slightly) Of course it is. But the right path often is. Remember, never, ever make enemies, regardless of the consequences. Always look for another way. It's a lesson you must take to heart if you truly wish to make amends and grow.
**Sunset Shimmer:** (determined) I'll try, Mr. Thorfy. I promise I'll try to find a better way next time.
**Thorfy:** (placing a hand on her shoulder) That's all I ask, Sunset. We all make mistakes, but it's how we learn from them that truly defines us. Now, go on. I'm sure you have classes to get to.
**Sunset Shimmer:** (smiling gratefully) Thank you, Mr. Thorfy. I'll do my best.
**Thorfy:** (nodding) I know you will. Remember, no enemies. Now, off you go.
(Sunset Shimmer exits the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose, leaving Thorfy to ponder the weight of his own advice.)
me personally they're tied for the best antagonists with wallflower. the dazzling being the better "big evil" bad guys while wallflower feels like the best "personal" bad guy.
Not only the Dazzlings are one of the best villains ever but they should other villains how to have a evil plan without having any haters
One of The Changes I would do to Season 9 of Friendship is Magic, is too Integrade Equestria Girls into Season 9 of FIM, too tie up both loose ends, instead of Giving EQG Web Series a Second Season. Also in doing that, Resolving The Ending of Legend of Everfree, and bringing The Dazzlings back to Equestria too join with The Villains of EQG, and also show MUCH MORE of Sunset Shimmer as a Pony and contributing too what happens towards a Better version of The Ending of The End that uses The Real Grogar.
Having The Dazzlings come back the way they did in Sunset's Backstage Pass was Insulting and Disrespectful Fan Serivce that goes nowhere. They were The Absolute Best Villains in EQG, Hands down.
I might get some hate for this but I think it'd be cool for them to be continuous villains. It's not something eg really has done. They're personalities are pretty set in stone and they actually posed a threat. And it could also show that not everyone can be reformed/redeemed and it's okay to accept that. Not everyone deserves forgiveness or wants it for that matter. And it's a direction the mlp world probably would never take anyway. And take this for example, after Sunset tells the Dazzlings about the time twirler, they realize that there is Equestria objects that possess magic and scheme to find them and harness the magic for themselves or something like that. A less insulting way to reintroduce them back into the fold. Just thoughts

They are out of all of the villains in all of the movies the best I've seen their sexy their songs are smash hits that deserve to get diamond certifications in equestria their personalities are cute especially sonata. Their voices are amazing. And they are the the one and only villains in ever in my knowledge to manage to in a way discourage their antagonist's / protagonists from going up against them by giving them a shove as Adagio said.

Them and Rainbooms should've tied imo. Because their voices (speaking and singing) are so Iconic (Tara Strong voice was my childhood Twilight and Raven were my favorites that she did)
The only thing I like about them is their songs, they have great them, if they were really alive they could release the album.

Eqg not mlp,Equestria Girls is similar to a supernatural serie when the characters have given up their villainy after losing their magic, and are now going around as a normal band playing music to earn money so they can get by.They are still just as mean as ever though, and show no remorse for their actions, only expressing regret for them due to the consequences it brought them rather than how it hurt others or are neutral.I can saw The dazzlings as survivor on the earth to unlike Sunset Shimmer(past unknow on the earth) at least one time.
