    Thank-you for this episode, I am still wowed over by yesterday's episode with Hidden Valley and Ernie Els wine farms and then you take us to Lourensford, a firm favorite, the nature reserve is superb too...its a pity that the new building is for staff and not a visitor's centre as one would always find at similar places in the USA. I love the way you honor our vulnerable tortoise 🐢 creatures, that shines through. The Cheetahs 🐆, reminded me of many a night spent in my office next door to their sanctuary, with their nocturnal calls, a bushveld like symphony, and then it was back home to Seapoint.I have done daily commutes further afield, albeit by air, so this daily commute wasn't that far in comparison.

      We don't realise and fully appreciate the beauty of the Winelands, it was a fantastic experience to visit all those wine estates. All the settings were spectacular and they're so well worth a visit! 🚗🍇 I'm not sure why the tyre building is only for staff, but at least I was able to take a walk around and on top and it's quite cool to have seen one like that which I've only seen on TV before. I'm all for recycling and sustainability and I applaud their efforts. 🌳💚 We were there over a weekend, I will have to go and check out the inside some time too. It doesn't matter where we are, Sonia absolutely refuses to let a tortoise cross the road without our supervision! 🐢😍 The 'Bushveld-like symphony', I love that. And five minutes from where we live, how incredible! They do fantastic work and all the animals in their care are magnificent. I always love paying the centre a visit! 🐆 I don't think I'll survive a daily commute between Somerset West and Sea Point. Although you were against the traffic most of the way, there must've been days you dreaded it! 😨

    Hi you two!
    Thank you for this outing. The view you gave us of that Mountain is beautiful!
    The reserve indeed appears peaceful and quiet. One is even reminded upon entering to keep a tortoise pace.
    The market at Lourensford is HUGE. From food to clothing to art. In the cities it would be called a Mall.
    I'm so glad to see displaced wildlife being taken care of. So many end up at such places as the Paardevlei Outreach because some people think wild animals can be pets, and then are not able to take care of them.
    I very much enjoyed your video, with the right music at the right time. Thanks again, and
    Keep safe!

      Hello there! The Helderberg Nature Reserve is where I often used to go to enjoy nature and only 15 minutes away from home! 💚🌳 It's a wonderful, tranquil place where one totally forgets about time, just like the tortoise. 😍🐢 The Lourensford Market is fantastic with such a wide variety of items available, one is truly spoilt for choice there! Cheeth Outreach is very close and dear to my heart. Those magnificent animals (all of them) need to be protected and those people do fantastic work. I'm glad you enjoyed the places we picked to show you in Somerset West! 🤩🐆

      Very interesting that you saw a similar building where tyres were used in France. I saw one on TV, but in the UK. Super cool way to recycle old tyres, I must say! 😎 The Lourensford Market is a stunning place with so much to see and do. Sonia loves Persian rugs and I love nougat, so I had to include those two shops! 😁 The old cars and bikes were fantastic to see, what a great collection they have there! 👌🏻You certainly have an eye for architecture and always pick up on the detail like the eyebrow windows, I love that! The Cheetah Outreach Centre does fantastic work with these magnificent animals and I love going there to show my support for their wonderful work. 🐆😍 Thank you for stopping by at our favourite places in Somerset West.

      I'm glad you enjoyed the places we picked to share in Somerset West! 😁 As for running with the cheetah, I shall remain silent! 🤣 I'm walking fit, but when it comes to running, my shins don't want to anymore ... sadly. 😞 I've enjoyed exploring some of these beautiful places in and around Cape Town on foot, it's always great to inhale the fresh air of the Winelands and the Helderberg, a place I'm so proud to call home! 😍🐆

    We had quite a few friends living in Somerset West, so it was also a regular visit for us. Always beautiful to journey out here, such a lovely area. Looks like that tortoise took a massive leak! I am so glad he made it across safely, thanks to you guys. This reminds me of Klein Jannie wat n lekker poets op sy skooljuffrou gebak het. Hy het n muis in haar lessenaar losgelaat. Later vertel hy vir sy grootsus, " Die muis het Juffrou se been geklim, tot onder haar romp waar sy hom toe vasgekeer het teen haar been. Maar Juffrou het sterk hande, hoor! Sy't 'n hele liter water uit daai muis uitgedruk!" What a wonderful way to recycle tyres, but wouldnt the rubber perish? Thank you for showing us all these beautiful places. The cheetah sanctuary is my favourite. Love the beautiful lynx. I will never forget actually stroking a cheetah in Oudtshoorn. That tortoise looked so like a toothless old man chomping on his piece of fruit. Proesnis tot volgende keer!

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Рік тому +1

      I was also concerned about the amount of water where we encountered the tortoise, but I doubt that he was responsible! I think it may have been a runner or walker who came past there a little while before we got there and it came from their water bottle. At least I hope so, otherwise he may still be suffering from dehydration! 🐢😳 My thought is they deliberately left a few tyres exposed to show visitors what that wall was built with, but plastered the rest. Rubber will most definitely perish in our harsh sunlight, but it would take a very long time, I'm sure. What a cool way to recycle tyres! 👌 I so wanted to film a personal encounter with a cheetah, but I didn't book in advance and there was a busload of German tourists who couldn't wait to stroke a cheetah. I've done it several times before and figured I'll get plenty more opportunities, so I opted to film from afar. It was amazing to see them so super excited to be so close to such magnificent animals. I think the shop may have run out of cheetah soft toys that day, they almost all had one in hand! 🐆😍

      Thank you, I'm happy that a fellow Helderberg resident enjoyed our video of Somerset West. 😁 Filming closer to home became very difficult and we had to choose a few places to include in our video. I could easily have added 20 more because there is so much to see and do in town! I hope to encourage those who don't know the town so well to pay it a visit to experience for themselves the diversity and beauty on offer! 🚙🤩

    Great choices. I didn't know about the market at Lourensford. Worth going for a visit, me thinks.
    You didn't get any buck in the nature reserve?

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Рік тому +1

      Definitely visit Lourensford Market if you have the opportunity to. You'll spend a few fantastic hours checking out all the items available and of course wandering through the magnificent gardens and grounds. I didn't see any buck at the Nature Reserve this time around, no. I suspect they may still be spooked by a recent fire. I've seen bushbuck quite regularly on hikes in the past, always great when I'm that lucky! 😍 🦌 Glad you enjoyed our pickings of Somerset West! 🚗🌳

    I didn't realize there was such a nice big nature reserve under Helderberg. Looks amazing. You'll have to film it when you climb it (unless that interferes too much with the raw experience of it. It's not necessary to film absolutely everything, hey? You're allowed to have some journeys just for your own private enjoyment.)

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Рік тому +1

      The Helderberg Nature Reserve is one of my most favourite spots to be close to nature while still being close to home, the absolute best of both worlds! 🌳💚 My left knee plays up every now and again, which makes climbing a little problematic at times, but I'd love to give it another go some or other time. If I do, I'll be happy to film it. 😁 Those views have to be shared, it's spectacular from up there! ⛰️😎

      @@DustBugsTravel :D Do it in style! Shout out to your Western Cape followers to make a palanquin for you, and to arrange a kind of pony express to take turns carrying you to the top. I would like it if you give us more introductory! There is quite a lot of silence. Rather say where you are going, point out the name of the place and give a shot at the name board. Mention where you are about to go, what is interesting at the place, what is there to see.
