I’ve said it in your comments before but I will do it again for the algorithm, these collab vids are fire. Two instructors who know the deal talking shop are invaluable for players who are interested in swinging the club better 👍
I love how you not only help us identify the issue, but you also explain why it is happening, why its an issue, and what is going on in our minds to cause the issue. Then you explain in great detail how we can start to fix it. This has been an issue ofine for years and its been so inpossible to fix it. I was always trying to adjust my hands, but fixing the lower body is probably my issue. I cannot wait to try this out today, its new hope!!! Thanks again.
Good stuff Eric. ...For width, I have my students feel "keep your knuckles as far away from your ear as you can". They seem to sense/feel where their ear is, and they can feel where their knuckles are a lot easier, as they are making the motion. For the elbows, I also like to get them keeping their elbows close, such that when they make a full 90* turn , and clubshaft is level to ground and parallel to the target, at the top of backswing, that the elbows would be pointing 180* away from the target. and right elbow level with the shoulder. Cheers.
I have had a good practice session. One feeling, which Dechaumbeau also describes, is range of motion of the muscles till the point they cannot. To me the back swing feeling of completion needs this toget consistency . The right hip maxing out in the turn is that feeling...better than just the shoulder maxing out
I stumbled across you recently and must say i am impressed You have got a subscriber Currently trying to work on body turn shoulders square at top of backswing and keeping the head still I be honest I was having difficulties not so much through lack of trying but coordination issues as soon as the club got in my hands I am doing the turns without a club but then it going horribly wrong with a club Your videos are getting right into a lot of the technical aspects I am really starting to make some progress Thanks
I like the explanation of cause & effect of different back swings, however I think it's worth mentioning that how you are physically build may effect how "your swing" should work. I mean if your lower arm is longer or shorter relatively to your upper arm, will have an impact on your natural swing and swing plane.
I am trying to improve on all the things you just discussed in the backswing. I have improved significantly but still struggle in transition with slight early release, quick hands and maintaining posture through follow through. Suggestions?
Hey Don! For sure--lots of suggestions. But I need to see your swing. Otherwise Im making too many guesses and assumptions. Consider www.cogornogolf.com you can send in videos there and we can help!
This is EXACTLY what I need to see. I swing past parallel with all my clubs. I do so in order to feel like I’m getting the max distance on every shot. I have a question @Eric: does a shorter backswing mean you will lose distance? I don’t want to lose distance but I know I need to shorten my backswing. If I swing shorter and easier but I get better contact, will the ball go as far?
Hey Brandon! I might, yes. It also might not. No the same across the board. Depends on what you were doing before, what reactions/issues its causing and HOW you shorten. All else equal longer swing gives you more POTENTIAL to hit it farther
Hey Eric - great stuff as always - quick question / concept clarification - using your rapid no slice sequence approach - and strengthening grip to get club faced closed - and integrating your other lessions of rotating left hand down a bit in backswing - with the left wrist flexion (bowing of Left wrist) - at the top leads to a very closed clubface - where clubface is pointing at sky... what is the compromise here - strong grip, left wrist flexion - but having face less closed at the top... (i.e i am getting some tough pull hooks/ double cross...)
Hey Michael....I don't think you should have a FLEXED (bowed) left wrist if the grip is strong..... I go through the grip/wrist match ups here ua-cam.com/video/S776LyvM6Pc/v-deo.html
@@CogornoGolf thanks so much. Clarifies a lot. I guess i overcooked the closed clubface teaching… even with the hanger swing aid to promote the wrist flex! Cant wait to get out there to try. Btw - im the florida lehigh guy (at delray dunes with eric schillinger) - lets make it happen this season!!
Great great video, I suffer from an “overly long cross the line “ swing. Extending the lead arm and pinching the elbows straightens it out making the downswing almost an afterthought.
hi eric. so at 26 seconds TJ has your left wrist cupped. i assume this is acceptable at this point of the swing as opposed to afew seconds earlier where left wrist is flat but club very shallow at top.
I can get to this position when having the butt of the club pointing down at left arm parallel but it seems I'm cupping left wrist but my right wrist is bent back
Hey Michael! Yes that is OK.....IF......your lead hand grip is turned strong enough.....with a stronger grip you can cup your wrist and still have the club face closed to the shaft Heres how the wrist angles/club face match up (this is true at all parts of swing) ua-cam.com/video/S776LyvM6Pc/v-deo.html&pp=ygUXRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHdyaXN0IGdyaXA%3D
Eric, thank you for your help. Quick question.. should the hips be over the toes or more towards the heels, I keep lifting if my hips are to far forward
More back generally better---more on that here: ua-cam.com/video/oxj_rtsSnJM/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/dF55XUErEHc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/NRv07rSS0rw/v-deo.html
Great video. The AMG Golf guys (Pros move their hands 8-inches relative to the body - Amateurs move their's 20) -i.e. once the body stops turning the brain searches for leverage. The physics in the downswing is the Mass of the Head wants to aline with the Mass of the Shaft & follow the Grip Path - but with Momentum it OVERSHOOTS - thus Crossing the Line = Handle Raising & face open & Laid-off = Handle Lowering & face closed. While Neutral is great, I still think the Matt Wolff 'tiny' loop is better - it leads to lots of good things.
Why weren’t other instructor videos talking about the chicken wing elbow!?!?!? I guess when working on other things I started to do that. Now I focus on keeping those elbows close and those have far from my body. Wrists aren’t hurting anymore, my old swing was snappy at the bottom and bad at follow through but now it feels more natural and smooth.
5:00 - Players are trying to emulate Big John Daly with that kind of back swing. You know, "grip it and rip it." Meanwhile, they do not realize that John is unorthodox. Most people will NEVER be able to swing it like he does.
This is my issue during end of video, my right arm lifts at the top of my swing probably because I feel like it will give me more power, my right arm bends too much and club goes across the line, I do maybe a great job of shallowing it out but it causes me to hook the ball.. can’t for the life of me fix this, when I try to feel more width and have elbows closer together it feels like I have too much tension.. ugh
For that I would do both of these 20 reps of each (40 total) everyday for the next 6 months ua-cam.com/video/7qpgswfeHJc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/cjq9CSOkGVU/v-deo.html

Lol exactly. 98/100 players I see in those positions hit it poorly. Of course he is one of the most skilled golfers of all time and you would not change him. He shoots 68 with that top...many others shoot 98 :)
Haha love to always hear these mentioned! Of course Daly is the 1/1000 golfers who play well from there. I have seen thousands and thousands of golfers from there at the top who hit it terrible. so 99/100 hit it bad. What is more important the 1% or the 99?
