I remember seeing this in the store and I thought "Will Wright is a bizarre genius." Then he came out with The Sims less than a decade later and confirmed my opinion.
Oh man I remember this game.... My favorite tactic was to take small stones and put them on either side of the red queen... Her subjects could never feed her, and the colony dies... lol Putting stones on all their nest exits was a good thing too.... Did you ever see the laser firing spider? When the game thought you were killing the spider too often they armed it.

thanks for posting this. The sounds are diffrent than I remember. Were you dying on purpose? you had a lot of deaths. I was a kid when I played and rarely died. Play as the spider move him to the red ants nest and play from there. If your going to fight the reds switch to being a soldier ant! Another secret is going to the bottom of the black nest (not in flood times), secret entrances to the red base. Go alone as a soldier and work your way up the red nest.
2 things, one: you can leave a sent trail to the food then run back to base and camp there forever, and two: when putting rocks on the antlion you can drop it directly on it's head to save rocks for say, trapping enemy ants inside their nest :P.
So many memories. I used to go to my grandma’s house all the time when I was a child. She had an older PC with only like 5 games and this one was the best.
