I'm a female and I sleep in my car when I travel. I would never sleep on a street like that, especially in a residential neighborhood. I found the safest and most convenient places to park are Hospital parking lots hotel and motel parking lots and even Walmart. Because those places have security that are used to seeing different cars every night so they don't become alarmed when they see a strange car with out of town plates. And a lot of people sleep in Hospital parking lots, it's not uncommon.
Also I sometimes, but not often, use truck stops, rest stops, and large apartment complex lots.
I have a minivan that is rigged for stealth camping. I have the blacked-out windows and a light blocking curtain across the two front seats so you can't see anything in the back when it is closed. All my seats are removed and I have a really nice memory foam mattress. I can watch Netflix or use my laptop and nobody even knows I'm in there. I feel safe anywhere because of my alarm system and because of where I park (a can of bear mace helps too) And I think anybody that parks on a residential street is crazy. It draws attention and your just asking for trouble.

mostly agree on your spots. having a safe, warm, well lit bathroom with hot water nearby 24/7 is a real plus. I prefer truck stops for an overnight because there's always a bathroom and there's always hot coffee. Also it's usually right on the highway so whenever I wake up I'm right back on the road( I only stealth camp when traveling long distance.) Hospital is my second choice. Large hotel/motel or Walmart tied for my third choice. His sleeping on the street in a neighborhood is, as he admits, likely illegal and dangerously exposed? I wouldn't even think about that spot unless the weather was ridiculous bad. Do you wanna deal with a nosy cop @ 330AM ?! knock knock knock
I stealth camp solo in my Prius, front passenger seat laid back flat, sleep mat+bag on top so I can hop back there in seconds and stretch out (I'm lil over 6ft tall.) Prius also has the wonderful advantage of being able to run the AC or heater all night using less than half a gallon of fuel...I sleep great whatever the weather! White noise from fan, fresh air that's cool and dry, or warm and cozy. also bug free.

If I wasn't married, I wouldn't mind having this kind of lifestyle for 1 - 2 years just to save money. At one point I was working 70 - 80 hours a week, while being a full time student and I would usually sleep in either my car or the vets department at my University (instead of driving an hour back to my parents house). As long as you keep yourself busy as this man is, you get used to it and it doesn't bother you as much. I feel sorry for the people who don't have a job and sleep in their car, because it is more difficult to have a sense of accomplishment.
I wasn't saving up for a house like he is though, I was saving my money to build up a stock portfolio for my future. While working keeps you occupied, the goal is what makes you wake up with pride.
Goodluck saving up for the house bub, I live in socal and its just as bad.

So many more options if you live up north. In the south the heat really limits where you can sleep outside. I used to like the tops of buildings. No one ever comes up there and there is usually a nice breeze. You could easily build a full on apartment on top of a lot of buildings. And you get free wifi and even electricity from the buildings. Also no bugs up there.

That’s hard about living in the vehicle. You always have to do reckon before spending the night. I B used to sleep in the car years back. I used to park my car in company parking lot. Sometimes I would ran into rent a cop. There’s time people sneak up in my car and I would get tense up. You must sleep good when it’s raining. The rain sounds trickling to your roof is very relaxing. Take care and be safe out there.

When I lived in a house I'd let anyone park on my property for $100 a month. And that's why I'm going to live in a truck camper (a normal one). $100 for rain and bug protection is better than $700. I already have a friend who'd let me park in their yard for $100 a month. So much money to save on rent for me. As soon as I get a camper.
