Thanks, really helpful! Do you have a video on adding air conditioning freon for the mitsubishi montero sport?
Thanks! Just bought one of these (2003) and wanted to get to work changing some stuff.
Thanks for the video, I have an 04 i was thinking of changing the oil myself.
Thank you for your comment and for your support. Yes, you should definitely do it yourself... Cheers!
@@RookieRepairs if I have a problem with my truck, can ask you about it, because I'm trying not to get overcharged by a mechanic, I might be able to fix it myself. Btw I subscribed 👍
@@cracyzero777rat Of course, feel free to reach out with any questions. About 8 years ago my wife knew more about cars than me 😅. Also since some (most) shops like to overcharged for small (simple) repairs I said why not start doing it myself (not overcharging but fixing and helping others)... thank you for subscribing 🙏🏾
@@RookieRepairs ok thank you for doing for the people that don't know about cars that much. I would do the same thing if I knew about working on cars. The problem the mitsubishi is having is its making a rattle like sound, they told me it's something to do with the head's, my mistake was not taking to a mechanic when the service soon light didn't turn of. It happened after the head gasket was replaced, would've better getting another engine, they charged me over 2k dollars to fix it
@@cracyzero777rat I’m sorry to hear that... yes it would have been better to replace the engine with a used one (warranty normally runs 3-6 months for a used engine). I’m just curious did you ask 2-4 shops for a diagnostic check? That’s a great way to get different and honest repairs- sometimes it could be something quick and easy fix.
I hope with the repairs that was done to your Montero now it’s running like a champ again... If anything seems to be funky take it back and they should fix it (they should have provided some warranty)...
Great job it help me alot on this SUV that I bought,Thanks
Hi
Do you have video how to drain ATF fluid from hose located front of vehicle under radiator don't know which one to disconnect to drain fluid Montero sport 2001
Thanks
You will want to disconnect both lines- one is in line and the other goes out. Best of Luck.
Thinking about getting one of these as a second car. Are they pretty reliable?
I've had my Montero Sport for three years and so far I have not seen any major problems (the only major problem was losing my keys and I had it parked for almost a year 😅)... Regular maintenance would greatly improve your chance of keeping it running for a long time... I would highly recommend to have someone that is a mechanic (or someone that knows about cars) to go with you and check out the car thoroughly with you- what to lookout for: oil leak, transmission leak, brakes pads (ask when it was replaced), tires (worn out- will need to replace $$), all fluid level (check if they are clean), maintenance records (if they have it) or ask them if the car had any major issues (some people will be honest about their car). What you should Ask when these parts were replaced: spark plugs, spark wires, water pump, transmission fluid, brake pads. Test drive the car both in the city and freeway (hills)... Best of luck.
@@RookieRepairs Thanks for the reply. Good advice. I've watched a couple of your videos. Most of these seem to need valve cover gaskets and I think I can do that. How come you didn't replace yours when the plugs were covered in oil? Just curious. Thanks
@@Justin-hz8bh My Valve Cover gaskets do not leak any oil but it does leak from the Spark Plugs Seals (this is why you will find oil in the spark plugs)... At the time Autozone didn’t have it in stock and I didn’t want to leave it out... I noticed that a lot are asking for me to do a video on this so I will be doing this soon...so stay tuned 👍🏾 I see it’s highly requested.
@@RookieRepairs yeah my 98 montero also had oil in the spark plugs , were you able to fix that with the seals ?
Yes you should definitely replace your spark plugs seals. Here is the link for that video: ua-cam.com/video/MVau8T6jwjk/v-deo.html
What is it called the plate you just have removed first?
I have the same car what’s the name of the oil?
Hey man, thanks for this vid. My dad has been bugging me to change the oil out and I have no idea how any of that works and what makes those things run. Might as well be witchcraft.
LOL... It's the start of you fixing your own cars... I hope you enjoy working on your cars now.
What type of engine oil you use ?
5W-30 Penzoil Synthetic - I have it under the description. Best of luck
20w50 in colombia hot weather is what was in my car and the previous owner used it for years, but i will drop it down to 15w40 diesel / gas oil SN rated chevron they sell it by bulk and i would not use the thinnest oil in summer time, if you have 30c weather you should us at least 10w30 if not 10w40.
I have been using 10w40 conventional oil... Is that OK?
I would have to say try to stay with the original manufacturer recommendation which is 5W-30
The manufacturer recommends 5w30 but this is for fuel efficiency and environmental reasons. in the manual you will see that they recommend thicker oils like 10w40 is a great choice for any warm climate, in winter time if you have -25c below freezing a 5w30 or 5w40 would be better. In the desert heat use a 15w40 sn rated diesel oil
conventional oil make sure you change it every 5000km to 7000 km if you do highway driving 8000
