Terrific piece by Holst in which all sections of the orchestra get to play something really good and well-suited to their instruments. Beautifully played by this excellent Spanish orchestra.
el tonto perfecto loco means exclusively "crazy." Holst means "fool." See plot of The Perfect Fool. This music is wonderful and as a lifelong Holstian I am surprised to hear it for the first time at 70.
Very few ever mention the years that Holst paid his bills by being a trombone player. I think this piece has probably the best part for his old instrument. Deserves to be played more often!

Excellent Performance! My favorite work of Holst!

Bravo! Really excellent performance of this masterpiece, which stands too much in the shadow of his Planets suite. Tempi are so perfect! :)
breathtaking music

Where is this great band from? Spanish details on the upload but no real indication of provenance
The conductor is Adrian Leaper. The orchestra is the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria. Yes, they have a very good orchestra on that sunny island.
I was wrong about the orchestra. It is the ORTVE (Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra).
