Both of my dogs are terrified of water. A 7 year old female bichon-poodle, and a 2 year old female chihuahua mix. I'm excited to try and use these tips tomorrow to at least bathe one of them and try to get them less afraid of bath time :)

I lured her in very slowly with peanut butter. It took a while. She had a licking mat. After a while I slowly turned on the water. She immediately left the bathroom. I tried it a couple of times after that with no luck. I just gave her the lick mat in the shower. I'm sure by repeating these steps, she eventually let's me bathe her. Maybe this will help you
I got my husky from a women in florida off of craigslist he looked very handsome in the pictures, when i picked him up he had been left out in the Florida summer heat and was malnourished. It took me months to gain his trust but when it comes to water I just don't know how to keep him calm. I tried taking him to the vet and a groomer, they all called me and refused to bathe him. I did bathe him myself but it was a struggle, these are some very helpful tips and I will be trying them out. He recently dug a hole in my backyard and is very dirty haha.
Literally just finished bathing my 1 yr old 🐶. If my son is home she tolerates a bath very well as I allow him to get in there with her. I will get in with her when he's not home but she prefers for it to be him. She doesn't hate it but she definitely doesn't love it either!!
These are not dogs who hate water in this video. These are dogs that aren’t comfortable. I have an 18 month old labrador mix of some kind who is very animated when he hast to go anywhere near water or gets caught in the rain. It’s become impossible to bathe him but it’s getting to the point where it’s going to have to happen. Outside of sedating him, I don’t think I have any options.
Same I have a beagle,lab mix and it is nearly impossible to bathe him. He ignored treats when we try the gentle method in the bath he just jumps out and scratches/wails around. Have you found anything that works for you? We also tried Trazodone, didn't work for us

She used to go to groomers then I suddenly started getting calls to collect as she refused bath. I don’t know how my parents bathe our golden retriever but I do know she will literally run out of the bathroom when she’s still all wet and soapy. She recently got into some of grandmas flowers that have pollen stems that stain clothing if touched. I can’t give her a bath at grandmas house because I don’t have her shampoo and she refuses to get into the bath herself and is too heavy for me to lift myself. Grandma used a wet paper towel earlier today to try and get some off her. I managed to get quite a bit off doing the same thing a little bit ago but if I really need to I guess I’ll have to try and give her a bath myself. Need help. My dog when we first got him, we found out he was sprayed with the hose when they wanted him to get back. He’s so afraid of water sounds in general. I’ve tried this method and it works. The towel folding tricked however, it does not work, and he will not eat treats when I try to reward him for his good behavior. He likes the treats that we gave him but he is too nervous when he’s in the bath to eat them he refuses to even sniff them. This makes the process a lot more difficult and I don’t know what to do to help him realize that he is perfectly safe. I’ve tried this method today and I work somewhat, and it got him to sit down, but whenever I would do anything more than scrub him, he would freak out sometimes when I scrub him he will try to get out of the bath as well Any ideas?

I have two toy poodles 9 years old and 2 mixed toy poodles chihuahuas almost 2 years old. The first are pretty good the second 2 one is good but the other fights to escape the whole time and he is the largest. I have an amputated left arm at the elbow at the elbow so he is a challenge. Ok what I do is take mine outside weather permitting, I fill a baby pool and tie them with a lead, the reason I use a baby pool is that way I can just dip a cap instead of using hose, in the winter, well dry shampoo baby!! Lol

Possible environmental effects that could lessen things is to dim the light level, lower noise levels, and give plenty of positive reinforcement (praise and over the tub snuggles or little bits of a treat or food she likes) IMPORTANT the water should not be much warmer than room temp. Dogs are much more prone to hypothermia and hyperthermia. They cannot regulate their heat as well and going too far one way or the other could harm them and cause more stress I am studying animal care atm and i have a routine with my dog that has routinely shown to help her but thats my personal workshopping (try if u think it could help) where i do all of the above and additionally approach her calmly and show her treats or call her into bathroom and let her come in at her own pace and give her the treat. Close the door, once shes in the room shes shaking and terrified so just giving her that time to be in the bathroom and have as many cuddles as she wants and soothe her. She eventually is ok enough to not velcro dog to me, the key is patience and a solid routine so she knows what she’s expecting every step of the way. We only put her in the bathroom when she is expecting a bath, she knows why she’s walking in. She used to be quite fearful of the room but she’s actually been a lot more willing to enter even if just to do her family rounds. I give her little treats throughout the process and personally let her wander a little in the tub to shake (although I understand why professionally and situationally this may be more trouble) Sorry long winded but if u read this i hope it helps you

Why bathe a dog 2-3x a day? Do you shower 2-3x a day, too? Dogs should only be bathed if they're visibly dirty or rolled in a poo or after a walk in muddy forest. Bath actually damages dog's skin, it should only be done when truly necessary.

I think I made my dog afraid of baths by using the removable shower head to rinse her off when she was a 2-3 month old puppy. The furnace had just kicked on to reheat the water and it's a bit too hot for a few seconds so I think I accidentally scorched her back and now when I start the shower or bath she goes running to her cage to hide. The only way I can get her through it is to be in there with her, hold her in the tub, and keep pulling her back from the curtain because she's trying to leave the entire time. Then once she's rinsed off I let go, she bolts out, covers the bathroom in dog-water, and then runs straight to my bed to lay on my pillow (this may be revenge, or she likes the pillow). When the river floods she strolls right through it like the water isn't even there, but the minute I add shampoo....
I have a two year old husky and he is very terrified of water. He was rehomed to me and I had him about six months. I have the to get two or three people with me just to give him a bath. It’s ridiculous and he has almost injured me in the process. These tips do not help at all but I do appreciate them. My friend has a cage and she put her dog in it and spray it with a water hose but I feel like that’s cruel but she doesn’t get hurt in the process and she has a Clean dog. I get my dog hemp calming treats. Husky are smart so I mix it with his food. I take mine for a walk first. I bath him every Wednesday with the soothing music. Once heard music and the calming treats and a walk. He still fighting me but half the struggle
I have a 125lbl malamute and he hates bathtime none of these tips work. The closest I've got was not using running water and just soaking a huge beach towel and letting that sit on him as I massage the soap in with my hands. But that only works for about 3-5 minutes then he cries like he's getting dunked with lava.

I bought a mouthguard just so that I can bathe my dog. Just a few days ago I bathe her but it was very difficult because she was really terrified and wanted to run. Then tried to bite my fingers when I soaped her body.

Try using warm water. I fill up a 5 gallon bucket with warm bath water when washing the dogs outside, and pour some out with a plastic measuring cup or plant watering pail with the shower head spout

I DID muzzle him, and at first, he howled like the water was fire, but I was sitting on the side of the tub with my legs in and just massaged him with my hands and the hand-held shower nozzle, while reassuring him with soothing tones.. He finally relaxed into it and I stopped it when we got to that point, so he would remember it as positive. Didn’t use shampoo yet, but the rinse did a world of good! And this past week, we brought him to the ocean. He is going to end up loving the water! But it’ll take some time before he warms up to the bath…😉🙏🏻💕

Do not bathe your dog too often or it will end up with dry skin.

something that works is put penuat butter low on the wall in the shower and while they lick it up you bath them

Dogs don’t do anything out of revenge bc they don’t have that higher thinking. It’s probably because it’s a spot she sees as safe or comfy

I have a two year old husky and he is very terrified of water. He was rehomed to me and I had him about six months. I have the to get two or three people with me just to give him a bath. It’s ridiculous and he has almost injured me in the process. These tips do not help at all but I do appreciate them. My friend has a cage and she put her dog in it and spray it with a water hose but I feel like that’s cruel but she doesn’t get hurt in the process and she has a Clean dog. Are there any husky owners out here that can probably give me some tips on how to wash my dog?
I get my dog hemp calming treats. Husky are smart so I mix it with his food. I take mine for a walk first. I bath him every Wednesday with the soothing music. Once heard music and the calming treats and a walk. He still fighting me but half the struggle
I have a 125lbl malamute and he hates bathtime none of these tips work. The closest I've got was not using running water and just soaking a huge beach towel and letting that sit on him as I massage the soap in with my hands. But that only works for about 3-5 minutes then he cries like he's getting dunked with lava.

I give some nice food for him and make him calm down ..After that I turn on water , step by step his paws to leg and under belly and back .. Sunddenly he jump up and bite me with angry face although I was not touch his body yet . My dog has just change his personalities in one month , after he did sterilization . He fear of shower and angry when I take bath for him .. As you are trainner , can you give me an advice and explain what was happened to my dog ? Your an answer it is so meaningful to me . neither of my dogs do water very well, I have a kiddie pool out in my yard and they simply use it as a water dish. My mom tried to get my oldest dog to like it by dropping him in it and he refused to go near her for 4 months

I bought a mouthguard just so that I can bathe my dog. Just a few days ago I bathe her but it was very difficult because she was really terrified and wanted to run. Then tried to bite my fingers when I soaped her body.
I have done this, he has treats all the way through, but my dog still gets aggressive and bites me, I have to put a muzzle on him to finish washing him..

Try using warm water. I fill up a 5 gallon bucket with warm bath water when washing the dogs outside, and pour some out with a plastic measuring cup or plant watering pail with the shower head spout

I DID muzzle him, and at first, he howled like the water was fire, but I was sitting on the side of the tub with my legs in and just massaged him with my hands and the hand-held shower nozzle, while reassuring him with soothing tones.. He finally relaxed into it and I stopped it when we got to that point, so he would remember it as positive. Didn’t use shampoo yet, but the rinse did a world of good! And this past week, we brought him to the ocean. He is going to end up loving the water! But it’ll take some time before he warms up to the bath…😉🙏🏻💕
They are not scared of water, but they don't want to get bathed.
It could be fear of the bathroom, maybe if you try to hose them and wash them outside they would be easier to manage?

Yea same I literally have to hold my puppy down for every single bath her says to not wash them if they are freaking out and scared but he doesn’t say what your supposed to do besides just let your dog smell like 💩

Well I already fail number 1 here how I do it
Number one you tell the dog get the fuck in the bath,
Number two you let her feel the water before dumping a bucket over the dog
Number 3 drown it till the dog looks like it's playing
Number 4 drag the dog out the bath
Number 5 clean It
Number 6 Dog Clean
Tips didnt work, Im just going to get rid of him.
OH YES ALSO 5 DIFFERENT GROOMERS HAVE SENT HIM HOME UNBATHED IF THEY EVEN ATTEMPT IT AT ALL THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN ITS UN SAFE FOR US TO BATHE HIM
