  • Pina Bausch (1940-2009) was one of the most influential modern dancers and choreographers of the 20th Century. DANCE! The NELKEN-LINE is an international outreach project of the Pina Bausch Foundation, whose mission is "to preserve the artistic legacy of the great dancer and choreographer; to keep it alive and carry it on into the future." The Foundation invited groups from around the world to participate in an online film festival dedicated to staging versions of "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter”, the best known line in all of Pina Bausch's works: from her 1982 piece Nelken. Gonzaga University’s film was created as part of ZagLab, established in 2017 to pursue community engagement through original, interdisciplinary artistic collaborations and to encourage artistic risk taking and adventurous creative inquiry among and between students, faculty, and Spokane’s community of artists and advocates. Our film represents a collaboration between the departments of Theatre & Dance, Music, and Art, and will be added to the Foundation’s archive of films. It was filmed in February 2018 to honor the construction of the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center, set to open in 2019, and to celebrate the arts at Gonzaga University.
