    Arugh... no u don't!!! Run whatever cam u want! Bolt the fuel pump cam on as usual.. bust out the spark box and weld a small/medium tack on the bolt/washer/fuel pump cam.. also the hurricane/crosswind intake with the double bolt pattern for LA/Magnum is much better than the edelbrock one... you are limited on intakes if u wanna run Magnum style heads... but u can use a magnum block, old school LA heads of any type then use hollow chevy style oil thru pushrods with Magnum roller cam setup.. also if u just wanna slap a 93+ LA in ur pickup/car... swap the timing cover, buy.the cheap knockoff intake they work awesome. Buy ya a eBay/Amazon HEI distributor they also work great with only 1 wire to mess with and the stock roller cam works awesome at 6 deg base timing even with carb. Happy motoring! Mopar or no Car!!!

      Just a note, the chinese knock off intake will not allow room for the A/C compressor. If you want a carb and A/C on a magnum engine you will have to use the Edelbrock intake.

    Flex plates from second gen Dodge Dakotas and and rams 1996 and up are balanced differently then 1995 and older. So the flex plate and torque converter don't have the one single off set bolt. All 4 bolts sit the same eliminating the need to drill out the one hole on the older flex plate.

    Love all the 360s , just built a 327 . These Gms and Ford's are like toys compared to the Chrysler La engines. Great video and very informative. Unfortunately we didn't get the magnum in Australia.

      I have an Australian friend who lives in the states he brought his 75 Chrysler to the state’s he’s going to put in a magnum in it and a manual trans. He loves to bang gears

    Great vid . I been running a 87 LA 318 5spd in my Dakota I built in 2013. Engine is getting tired so I have a 94 magnum 360 4 speed automatic I wanna swap. So it’s nice to have these vids to know differences . Ty

      I’ve only run the magnum, have had good luck with it, but, you are very limited on intake choices unless you drill and tap the magnum heads for a la bolt pattern then you have a lot more choices.

    i have a 360 LA and a 727, im swaping the LA 360 for a magnum 360, the magnum flexplate is weighted and the tourqe converter is also has a single weight on it do i need to remove it ???

    I’m confused. The title says you’re converting from magnum to LA? Looks like the reverse. While the LA crank will bolt into a magnum they are not balanced the same. Magnum pistons are much lighter.

      It’s a magnum block, crank, and pistons. The la part changing over to a cam that I can use a mechanical fuel pump and front cover to run a carb. Some f what is shown are also differences between magnum and la so those that don’t know can see the differences.

    Longer snout cam is also drilled for top end oiling. But your block is not drilled for it. What if you wanted to run rocker shaft heads?

      They are edelbrock magnum heads with hardened push rods that oil the rockers. I’m not running la heads.

      If you google dodge magnum swap van ps bracket you’ll get a information. There are some good pics I just pulled up about the bracket, belts, and tensioner discussion that should help you out.

      you need to get rid of the magnum intake and buy a carb intake, need a different distributor that will for with a MSD 6AL for example. Pertronix has an ignition box and distributor as well. Make sure the fuel pressure is only 6-7 psi, Fuel injection fuel pressure is in the 50 range.

      I only used the block, crank, pistons, and roller rockers. Everything was la based. Swap la distributor, timing cover, fuel pump, and so on.

    Run engine for 20 minutes let cool 1 hour exhaust bolts usually come right out

    Hughes will custom grind a roller cam with the la snout.

      They an option as well, you can use Oregon cams, they can regrind or new grind. Be careful we regrind as the base circle could change and affect pushrod length, comp cams can, lunati can, Elgin I believe can as well. Just need to provide details of your build if you want a custom grind.

    Hi love the channel ❓...can I use magnum heads on my 1986 360??? I'm looking for a better breathing head closer cc but I'm poor ...I can find magnum heads 100 bucks what would be involved in the install if at all possible?? Thanks so much in advance

      A lot, can be done might be cheaper to buy an aluminum set. Different lifters, pushrods, rocker set ups. Ive not f

      @@ShopDogFabrication thanks but I'm poor wish I could afford aluminum heads but not a possibility...my 360 is healthy I bought it after it sat 11 years and it's taken this long for me to get it road worthy it's just cyl number 7 like to puff just a tad once warmed up so I'm thinking all that sitting hardened the valve seals but thanks so much for even responding to me I cirtainly appreciate it

    Trick Flow does not make heads for a Magnum. They make heads for LA and need to run oil through pushrods just like running any other LA head on a Magnum

      Yes they do, tfs-61417801-c00 they even tell you for magnum engine what rocker you need to use.

    B&M 10239 flexplate is for a LA engine not a Magnum engine...different factory balancing...

      Remember it’s the exact same crank, it’s externally balanced, lighter pistons and rods in the magnum, I’m using an la balancer. This flex plate has worked great for 2 years and 0 balance issues. That’s what everyone has been using on the magnum that I know of. There is a different one used for 318 that are internal balanced or 408 strokers that switch from external to internal balance.
