Even though I've been rooting for Coll, what a great human being Ali Farag is! He was definately playing for win here, but he appreciated all of Coll's great shots. True sportsman.
My admiration for Farag's sportsmanship grew quite a bit when he stept back right after a major defeat. For all of those defending attitude and skills over respect - this is how it is done, all together.
What an achievement for the Kiwi. Congratulations !! my favourite player is Farag and of course he still is my favourite. But today, I'm really happy for Coll. Hope the top 5 players can keep this unpredictability going in the game while enhancing the standard of the game from each championship to championship.
@@mellowmonsoon278 Frankly he's the only non-egyptian capable of winning any tournaments as things stand. Elias still isn't quit there yet, Makin is trailing Elias, Makin can really learn from Paul and make that transition soon. Couple of french athletes are also soon going to break into the top 15s and 10s in time, Baptiste Masotti, Lucas Serme, Victor Crouin these are all promising players and ofcourse Asal and even Ibrahim are oozing out pure skills who will be regulars in years to come.
@@mellowmonsoon278 Yeah he's a delight to watch but needs to get his head straight like Dessouky did and needs to work on his stamina, as he almost always struggles to keep up with the top players after 1st or 2nd
So great to see Coll lift a major trophy after coming so close all these years. He finally started getting more aggressive with his shot making, increasing the pace, and putting more pressure on his opponents and that has made all the difference. A true gentleman, one of the hardest working and most dedicated athletes I've ever seen, and I'm so happy for him.
Didn't get a lot of close ups in the recap, but watching the full match, it was striking just how pained Farag looked between points. Same with El Shorbagy in the previous match, who looked a little worried about the physicality even before the match had started. Really incredible performance from Coll to force his opponents into a very difficult spot physically and mentally.
Ali seemed genuinely happy for Coll, that smile he gave him at the end... wow. Sad for Ali but so happy for Coll, he's been so close too many times, well deserved.
The day mustafa Asal beat paul coll . I knew that a new chapter of tactics will starts for him and his game will change in a better way . Clearly you can see paul's short game has improved .
Congrats Paul Coll, what an achievement! As a squash playing Kiwi living overseas I have watched your games for a few years now. Way to pay back all your training, fans and support crew, just fantastic. And a shoutout to Ali Farag, a great player to watch and he showed what a gentleman he is in the end.
i cant tell how much happy and satisfied iam. Coll shouldnt stop here . He should go on and on . He deserves it. A great example of hard work and sucsess.
Congratulations Paul - massive achievement in scaling the Egyptian Pyramid of incredible players. To overcome two amazingly gifted players in Mo Elshorbagy & Ali Farag is testament to your hard work & ethic. We all know & appreciate just how good these guys are and you have definitely earned your place amongst the best of the best. Kia kaha e koe...
Paul Coll certainly has fought long and hard and very well deserved! Also, Ali Farag is an absolute world class sportsman, it is such a pleasure watch these athletes perform!
A great win for Paul and the first NZ man to win this British Open..........a great achievement. Congrats from all of us here in NZ.........currently in lockdown.......lol.
Well done Coll. Nice to see him winning a major title after all these years of hard work. Something about Coll's game makes it very ease to watch. He doesn't have much fancy flair but just clean smooth hit. Just like his personality.
The intensity of pro squash has definitely increased in the last 2-3 years, and more players are able to hit that intensity making each game that much harder. Coll's insane physicality has definitely helped him stay fresh throughout these tournaments, where even Shorbagy and Farag are wobbly at the end. Great play from Coll, very happy that he finally got a major victory!
Amazing from Coll! He has been so close too many times, glad he got over the line this time! Hopefully, he continues to improve and win many more titles beating MoSho and Farag.
Fantastic result for Paul, all the hard work as paid off…his skill improvement in executing the finishing shots has been the biggest difference. Fitness and his basic game have never been in question…
A major success beautifully played by Coll; it must feel like reaching the top of Everest :-) from Ali a masterclass in good sportsmanship. Proud kiwi here!!!
Wonderful to compare Coll now to his early days as a pro - his movement style has changed a lot, much more economical and patient, giving himself time to hold the ball before playing the shot, unsettling his opponents. Awesome stuff
This win is SO important for the sport ! In an era of absolute Egyptian dominance, having athletes fromother nations at the top level is a must in order to keep pro squash interesting.
Amazing achievement from Coll. I've been a big fan for 5 or 6 years now, but was honestly starting to think it wasn't going to happen for him. The end bosses just seemed a step too far. This performance though was stunning, especially after losing the first set in disappointing circumstances. He played so well for large chunks of that first set but then a run of silly errors and it was over in a flash, and I was thinking "oh no here we go again". The next 3 sets though were extraordinary, some of the best I've seen from ANY player. Farag is an all time great but Coll took him to a place that even an all time great couldn't handle. It was unbelievable to witness. At 29 and with your peak squash years arguably in the early 30s, there's no reason why Coll can't make a big push over the next few years and secure his own place in squash's pantheon.
So happy for Coll. He’s made such incredible tactical and finesse improvements without sacrificing his top shelf physicality. Incredible development and wonderful to see it paying off.
Hard work rewarded. As several of us noticed a few years back, Paul had to get the short kill game going to reach the next level. He did. Great physical fitness, good mental strength & tactics along with just enough kill/tight shots got the job done. Now the challenge is to maintain that.
Farag did not expect this style of playing. He expected to play him in the style of foreigners, but surprisingly Paul played against farag in the style of the Egyptians and even mastered it.
Coll’s retrieval ability has been astounding for some time. It’s good to see his racket skills have gotten to a high enough level to compete (and even defeat) the very best. I wonder if Makin will be able to follow in Coll’s steps.
Yeah Makin really needs to watch and learn from Paul, maybe improve on it as well (Paul has taken his time in embracing the quality short game and still isn't good at short making) Makin is a more clever and headstrong player where as Paul is a more straightforward tactician who sticks to his game plan throughout, Makin can tweaks those qualities and exceed Paul in the coming 3-5 years, lets see.
@@QuasiELVIS He most certainly could be at 1 rank or 2 for sure, he is at his peak right now and should maintain this prime form for the next 2-5 years, again as you've stated his health and physique will play a vital role in him being able to play for the next 5 years which might be a stretch but not impossible. As for reaching world number 1 ranking, I dont see any major competitor to Paul other than Ali as things stand, but Asal, Elias, Dessouky can pose a threat if they become more consistent which will happen sooner or later, would love to see Makin also break into the top 5 soon, consistency is the key, as we see with ElShorbagy, Ali, Paul and Tarek.
Just replayed the entire match not knowing who won. Coll's mental discipline outstanding to keep to targets and length and undid Farag, who thrives on inaccuracies. Fitness also a factor.
Wow. And after Farag had a short semi too. To my eye Farag wasn't at his very best here but any win over a relatively well-rested Farag is a major, major achievement!
His quarter final against Asal caught up with him , Ali always going to have easy semi against Miguel after he had an awesome upset in his quarter final , you don’t want to be on the same side draw as Asal because he is the man to beat at the moment and if you happen to beat him your next matches will take its toll because you don’t beat Asal easy.
So happy for coll. Shows attritional squash can still do the job and he looked unstoppable the whole way - the Egyptians just ran out of ideas and gas. It's wide open at the top now!
So happy for the Superman, a freaking bio-machine, he really broke Farag's rhythm and didn't let him come back, something Mo.Elshorbagy couldn't do in the World Championships finals as he's unfortunately past his prime now and simply doesn't have the physicality to hold up in a 5 setter with the top 5 anymore :((
@@berenscott9347 His style of game is way more taxing on the body then the other in his age bracket, his body has taken a lot more beating then other 30 year olds on the circuit. It's only going to get worse with time, i really hope he keeps up for another year or 2 and wins major finals again but the realist side of me says otherwise.
Congrats Coll, but didn't Farag play quite poorly (compared to his unbelievably high normal standard)? Only watched the highlights but comparing his performance in this game compared to the PSA World Championship , it's seems like night and day. What happened?
He looked like he could not possibly get enough oxygen into his bloodstream between points. Coll was hitting his target almost every time and retrieving everything, and out of desperation Farag was making himself do even more work by trying unorthodox shots. A lot of people are bringing up the lack of rest days, but both these guys were only on court for half and hour yesterday. It looked more like Coll was just impervious on the day, and Farag was exhausted as a result.
So glad they managed to put like 5 total points together in the highlights package. Why not actually put a 20 minute video together instead of 2 points from each game?
Coll has been on the verge of a major for a few years now. Good to see him finally get one

We all have to thank "Egypt" for contributing so much for squash. But seeing different countries and even continents represented is quite satisfying.
The fact he beat Mohammed in the semis, lost to 1st to Farag and then beat him must have been a massive mental game.

Farag is #1 in my list too. But seeing people from differente countries/continents reaching top level is excellent for the sport.
@@fridbertaugust Yeah, I'm happy for him. Most importantly, he won cos he worked bloody hard for it, and not because Egyptian standards went down.
