Val you wrote such a brilliant song .. I bet God had a hand in it, but you were the vehicle. Thanks for not ignoring the words coming at you. Such a blessing.
Absolutely this song reminds me of a song from Gold City Quartet If Church Pews Could Shout both touch me because of the message in them I grew up in such a church where JESUS met us at those alters.
While searching for memories of bygone days I saw an old church by the side of the way Its windows were broken, weeds covered the door And I was compelled to enter once more The plaster was falling, the roof caving in No longer did anyone worship within Like a statue of honor, the altar stood there To rescue the pershing who knelt there in prayer Chorus: If the altar could talk, what would it say Would it tell of the many who had knelt there to pray Would it show of the tearstains there in its wood As they cried for the evil and rejoiced with the good If the altar could talk, oh what a tale, Would it boast of the blood that kept souls out of Hell Paint a picture of lives changed as down the aisle they walked There'd be no end to the story if the altar could talk I went down to a room where children once learned Of a Heaven to gain and a Hell that burns One lonely book lay open on the floor I picked it up and read its pages once more It told of the Christ Who rose from the grave To redeem the lost, His life freely gave Then my mind went back to where the altar stood It was a lighthouse for all the weary fashioned in wood.
(Every time i hear this song it takes me back to the little white church on Spencer st,Toledo Ohio,to the night I literary threw my self on the Alter,a then, 37yr old hotshot on his face, asking God's forgiveness. for the sinful life he'd been living. Every time i drive by that church,my mind is drawn back to that time,51 yrs ago. (yeah, i know, i keep talking about it, it may get old to some, but not to me, it was a glorious time in my life)Shared with f/b friends @Charles Cook

While searching for memories of bygone days
I saw an old church by the side of the way

The plaster was falling, the roof caving in
No longer did anyone worship within
Like a statue of honor, the altar stood there
To rescue the pershing who knelt there in prayer
Chorus: If the altar could talk, what would it say
Would it tell of the many who had knelt there to pray
Would it show of the tearstains there in its wood
As they cried for the evil and rejoiced with the good
If the altar could talk, oh what a tale,
Would it boast of the blood that kept souls out of Hell
Paint a picture of lives changed as down the aisle they walked
There'd be no end to the story if the altar could talk
I went down to a room where children once learned
Of a Heaven to gain and a Hell that burns
One lonely book lay open on the floor
I picked it up and read its pages once more
It told of the Christ Who rose from the grave
To redeem the lost, His life freely gave
Then my mind went back to where the altar stood
It was a lighthouse for all the weary fashioned in wood.
Maddie May I
Worldly Churches have no altars its so stupid to take the altars out of Gods house and repentance is what all people need
