Genie Garage Door Opener Install with One Person (EASY)

- My old crusty, loud, unreliable, without remote controls garage door opener finally bit the dust. After months of dealing with it, a I found a great deal (value wise) on a garage door opener that fit my needs of security and convenience. That opener was the Genie SilentMax Connect Smart Garage System with Aladdin Connect. I bought the model with a belt driven system rather than a pulley, or auger style simple because a belt is the quietest of the bunch.

Model # 3053-tsv Ultra Quiet Belt Drive amzn.to/3ELISIJ
Also, my garage door opening is 7 feet tall. If it was larger, I'd need to buy a extension to allow the door to open all the way. amzn.to/41BsPGY

Between the white noise, the gentle music, and the actual build this is without a doubt one of the most relaxing videos on youtube
Thank you Jesse! It's one of my favs to both record and edit.
What an incredibly useful video. I followed it and replaced my garage opener without an issue!
Nice video. I like your video work - the close ups, speed ups etc... are nice. Also, the background music was not annoying. Well done and thank you so much.
Awesome, thanks for the input and glad you liked it!
Brought tears to my eyes at the end …… then I remembered I got work to do !!!!!
Same!
Just bought this. Thankfully the previous owner had installed the brackets so I didn’t have to mess with that. Just put it all together and then hung it up.
FYI this video was 10x better than the manufacturers install video.
Awesome video! Parents are getting older now and they’ve had a manual for their whole life. I think this year my dad will be getting one of these for his birthday. Video has perfect detail, and with that music in the background; how could anybody want to drop an F bomb during this project. I love the American Dream ending with the family! Great touch.
Thank you Drew, I'm glad you found it useful and I'm sure your Dad will be super pleased with that gift!
Hey, Koven, wow!, most impressed. Your parents raised you well, good for you. Your handy-man abilities are well-displayed, and having the right tool don’t hurt none. I’m ordering that same unit tonight. I’m sure you could also fix your wife’s tweaked ankle. Keep enjoying your beautiful children. Thank you much, dude.
Thank you very much Guillermo! Let me know how it went :)
This is the first time I've EVER heard background music in a video and thoroughly enjoyed it. It really added to the entire experience.
Awesome, it's a song I love as well! Thanks for watching!
Why is this such a therapeutic video, that music is so relaxing 🤣 Great work from the install to the video. I just bought the same opener today!
Thanks Andrew, it was one of my fav vids to put together. Good luck!
Clamping the level to the runner was a great idea! As has been mentioned many times, this is a great video. Made my life much easier. Thanks for posting.
awesome to hear, thanks Robert!
I just bought the same garage opener. Thank you for sharing, this will provide me more confidence installing it.
You'll love it, I'm very satisfied. I need to buy the wireless outside open button. Glad it was useful in some way!
Thanks for the video! Took my anxiety away from doing it. I was just replacing an old chain one, with the new awesomely quiet Genie! Installed in a little under 3 hours.
Awesome man, love to hear it!!
@@kove Great stuff. I have an already installed Liftmaster chain I want to change to this genie belt, do you always have to remove and replace the carrier bracket above the garage door like you did?.. If so I'm guessing you need to refind the stud behind the wall.. I was hoping the new one would go right into the same bracket without having to replace that :-(.
@@seatime674 I used the same bracket. just angle the piece from the motor to the ceiling. I think its kosher.
I'm installing one of these tomorrow for a client, and this is the best video I've seen. I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for taking the time to post the video.
Cool! Thanks John!
@@kove I got it done in about 3 hours. Everything went smoothly. Thanks again.
Did the install and the bungee cord to hold the motor in place was a huge win.
Good improvisation!
Dude your editing is just amazing, I’ve watched 4 vids about garage door openers today and everyone tries to talk , talk and talk and have as much camera time as they can. Besides that Chill Dog 🐕 of yours is just too cool. Thanks for the vid and have a great 2022.
I appreciate that Quetza. I always like the show instead of tell ;)
Little man looks like he is ready to help you on the next one you install
Yep! Great little helper!
in my opinion your replaced one of the best garage door systems (liftmaster) with the worse garage door opener avail , Genie!!! i hope its still working for you and wish you many years luck with it . love your dog
Interesting, i wasn't aware of that. It's working like new.
Great video! Went along well with the written directions to verify I was doing everything correctly. Thanks!
Thank you Scott! Glad to have helped out a small bit!
Have a great helper there!! 🥰
Thank you for sharing this video!!
Sir thank you for saving me $350 from all the local thieves charging an arm and a leg for this simple work. You’re a savior and I appreciate it greatly
Excellent! Glad it helped you Guy!
Someone who pays taxes, insurance, and for quality tools is not a thief for charging $350.
Next time you think about how much a professional charges for something think about how much YOU would be willing do it for for SOMEONE ELSE. Especially for an ungrateful someone else.
My garage opener is fine but your video was so calm and educational
Thanks karaoke!
Awesome video. I just bought a Genie garage opener so thank you for the great video!
Glad you found it useful 👍
Awesome video. Definitely helped me finish installing my garage door. I got stuck connecting the door and the trolly. The music is very peaceful. Then doing it 🦶🏼😜
Thanks Nate, glad you got though it! It sure did for me too! ;)
Dude thank you. I have almost the same system, also a Genie. This helped tremendously as the garage door does not originally have a power system installed.
That is awesome to hear! Thanks for sharing Billy!
Love your wife's shirt, and it was a great video!
Thank you!
This...is the way you make a video! Let the images speak. Clamp on door height and level is great!
Thanks Tim! With your bungees and my clamps, we can conquer the world!
Yes Awesome ! God Bless you and Your Family ! Way to make a Great Ending !
Thank you Mark! Likewise for you. :)
Great presentation !!! Calm Music !!! Best in Class
thanks!
Great job brother!!! Keep pushing that great family moments!!!
Thanks! indeed true!
Just installed mine this past Tuesday and yes 5hrs solo.. Awesome video!!!
Nice work! I'm still amazed quite it is compared to the neighbors chain drive (which was same as my old one)!
Thanks for the video!! I had my chain driven opener go out on me and Home Depot had a week waiting list for the install. After watching your video (and getting the opener you recommended) I was about to get my new opener up in about 3-4 hours. I had a little bit of a problem locking the carrier assembly but once I worked that out I was golden! Thanks again!
Good stuff, that makes the time totally worth it even if it's one person. It's what I looked for and didn't find, so glad it was helpful!!
i realize it's quite off topic but does anyone know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Dash Felipe Flixportal :D
@Xzavier Jacoby Thanks, I signed up and it seems to work :D Appreciate it !!
@Dash Felipe glad I could help :)
Not going to lie I seen a lot of people do some really stupid stuff when they are a homeowner installing garage door opener’s but I will say you did a pretty good job I’ll give you some really high credit I’m actually pretty impressed that someone actually took their time and doing everything right but just to let you know when you set the upper limit it only needs to be a few inches above the header
Thank you Zackary! I tried to act like someone who's did this before 😁. Thanks for the tip, I'll be adjusting that soon!
Real men go bare foot in garage working with metal! Nice job
That's damn straight, and thank you 👌
Thank you for posting. I am less intimidated by this upcoming install.
You can do it!
thanks 4 the video, lol love the dog and no shoes
lol, yep go without as much as I can! Thanks for watching!
Wow!! Thanks! I finally realize that it's Banzai Aqua Blast that I forgot to buy.
Lol, what?
Best part was the boys at the end...reminded me of mine! Great vid and thanks for posting
Glad you enjoyed it! They are life's true treasure indeed.
Installing a 3053 today replacing my old lift master. Decided to watch a couple videos before I install it and look who I found.
Ha, we operate on a similar frequency.👌
Great video and great job Dad. God bless y’all and stay free
thanks Root!
@@kove okay, so it took me a weekend, lol but your video was still very helpful! As the house is prewired that was a bit of a guessing game.
Regardless it’s done and I solo’d it thanks to you and the instructions.
Thanks again Sir!
Easy enough you can install it barefooted ! Good job !
:) Thanks!
Perfect, replacing my current broken opener with that exact same Genie kit. Figured I'd check out youtube before I started assembling and this is even better, going to pre-build it all inside tonight and slap it up tomorrow. Got the same Ridgid set as well
Good luck Fred, I'm still very pleased with it so far. Ridgid is a damn fine brand.
Great video, it helped tremendously in taking on this project - I did use my existing wiring, I made sure that I wired the two wire side on the garage door to the transmitter and the single wire side on the garage door to the receiver. Then I simply wired the single wire from the old opener into location 1 and 2 in the opener housing and it all worked.
Thanks, and glad it worked out for you! It's always something that causes a fuss ;)
I can't wait for my son to get that big I'm dyin from this long wait hes only 4 months old btw thanks for the video!
It keeps getting more fun!
Great job and you did it by yourself watched all the way to the end to see who was going to be at the other end to help lol👵
😄
Great video!I bought a newoke opener on amazon, and I installed successful!
Thank you and well done!
Pro tip, don't level the rail. It causes excessive force on the top panel. The rail should be 1.5 inch above the top panel when the door is open. It will slant down from the header to the motor head. Otherwise a clean install for a diy :). 18 years in the garage door industry.
I had to come home from vacation to really comprehend this, and it makes sense, thanks Joshua!!
Thanks for the tip. Planning on doing mine soon
Can you explain this better, so the rail coming out of motor going to be mounted on wall should be mounted exactly how ??
It says to level it in the instructions
Good job man nicely done . I appreciate your efforts.
That thing is less than 1 hp with a door that wide?
Yep, works wonders!
Just wow I just put one of these things in and I can’t get it to move more than two or 3 feet I was hoping your video would help it didn’t but it was relaxing
Thanks! Yeah I forgot to record the programming of it.
Ceo of pilots holes... Nice vid. Helped me out alot. Keep them coming
Thanks Nick!
A good, peaceful video. Thanks for sharing. There are other videos if you want a step by step presentation such as watching the video from the genie website.
Thank you for watching.
Really nice. I love the nice music in the background. I couldn't help noticing the Mclane trimmer reel lawn mower. You must be a turf nerd, like me?
Thanks and good eye! Yep, growing a putting green right now as it happens. What's your choice of turf?
@@kove I do Turfgrass research at a University mainly on putting greens but have worked on lawn height turf as well.
Good vid, cute kids, Mom's legs look like she could kick a soccer ball to the moon. All around good and entertaining video. Now they can look back on this in twenty years and see those cute little kids again.
Thanks Matt! That's the plan for most my videos. I love including the fam in them!
Nice Video, pleasant background music.
Good job!
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for spending the time to do this, your .install looks to be almost exactly the same as mine 👍
Glad it helped!
Working with electrical bare foot, real smart!
thanks!
You're welcome, still good video, thank you! (my father was an electrician, you know the deal)
My current one will wake the neighbors up! I need one of these along with a lot of other things
ha! I didn't have a garage growing up, and our house opener had always been loud, so I just thought they all were that a loud until I heard one that was belt driven. I was blown away!
@@kove night and day I'm sure, I see them on sale from time and time and it's so tempting but just can't justify right now since my current one ain't broke (yet)
Was on same boat and was happy when it stopped XD
@@BermudaBoss Its a game changer...
@@LawnPusher I know man I need one!!
👍 Music. Happy family. Be Happy always. blessings.
Indeed and thank you!
Wow!!! Didn't know it was that easy!
Well, it's doable 😉
@@kove Update....
I thought it was going to be easy so I bought a Genie garage door opener and I'm having the hardest time attaching it to the garage ceiling.. I wish they would have provided the metal pieces for a flat ceiling in different sizes. My garage ceiling is flat and low so I need a small 9inch metal strip. I'm having the hardest time. Just this one metal strip is delaying everything. I could have been done ALREADY!!!
@@kw9568 Yep, it would be very handy for many people. I was lucky enough the existing pieces of my old one worked just fine. Hope you get it finished up soon!
Nicely done. I liked the music and your chocolate Lab... sure miss mine! :-) This will help in an upcoming install. Thanks again.
Thanks John, glad it helped! Yes Sir, there are great dogs. He's still got a few years left in him, and he has a choc lab little sister now too!
Do not forget to put a surge protector between the opener and power. Mine got fried and I read so many others failed because of power spikes
Yikes, thanks for the tip!
Hey Koven , gave it 71st thumbs up although my techniques are lot different from my install 7155L genie today 12-13-19 I also picked up on new ones You demonstrated , thanks
Thank you Ontrac! 💚 Glad this was able to help out a little. I still appreciate it the new opener each time I open!
Well done
Thanks aki!
Good video. I got mine coming today or tomorrow and will use your video to get it done right. Thanks man. And cute kids!
Thanks Daniel! It takes a while, but straight forward.
It's hard not to like a video with a dog in it.
He's always helping out! :)
I see you re in Missouri. I'm in Raytown. You can come help me install mine when I get it. Pizza, Beer, and Scotch
😁 man I'd take you up if you weren't in KC! What are your plans?
@@kove , I'm gonna go at it alone. It can be done. You proved that.
@@dlos1987 Good luck and be careful! Follow the instructions they provide and you''ll be fine!
Question my - is the up and the + is the down but in the instruction it says the opposite. What could be wrong?
Excellent video. It's too bad Genie isn't as dedicated to quality in their products as your dedication to your family values. I just purchased my third Genie door opener in 5 years.
Thank you , very kind. Other than losing my remote on day 1, it's been working as expected. What has been going wrong with you openers?
@@kove The gears stripped on the first one, yesterday the second one just seized up, no forward or reverse just 5 green blinks.
@@justinthyme7275 That's too bad, hopefully their customer service are helpful!
No fair u had a helper!!!
haha, a great one!
Great video. Thanks and good job.
Thankyou AF. Going to do a similar projet soon?
Took me four dam days to do this myself
Would you do it again?
@@kove hell yeah, just next time I won't drink coffee In the mornings next time I tackle another project, those bathroom breaks because of the coffee prolonged the task.
Thanks for posting. I just installed the same Genei replacing similar to what you had, a 29 year old Craftsmen using your video as a guide. The only thing that took some extra time was having to move my original mounting bracket up 8-10 inches since the Genie is a little shorter. I was hoping to bypass the sensors but the garage door wouldn't go down without holding down the hard wired pad button in the garage. My remotes don't work in the down mode or control the lights, hoping installing the sensors will fix that, if not I will need to reprogram the remotes which are pre-programed from factory.
Glad you found it helpful and thank you for checking it out! Interesting take at it, I considered leaving the old sensors as well. Hope you get it figured out!
I'm having the same issues with the garage door not going down. Did installing the sensors fix the issue?
@@mrchopstix Yes, it corrected everything.
Thanks for the video...you make it look easy...
It is straight forward, just takes some time ;)
Same. About 5 hours by myself. I went to home depot and saw it sitting there with a 99 dollar yellow tag on it a grabbed the thing so fast. After I installed mine the wires kept popping off the spools so i had to wind my spring. The Aladdin connect app is pure çrap though
Nice deal! yes, the app is terrible. XD
I did a pretty good job installing it just to let you know it looks like the upper limit is set to far up you usually want it 1 inch above the top header
I wasn't aware of that, I wonder how it will effect the longevity. Thanks for the insight!
Thankyou so much for this video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Genie belt drive it will be quiet garage door opener with motor of a genie belt drive. The genie belt drive is going to be install.
Well done 👍.
Genie belt drive install it might be to take for minute or hours.
Yes it’s takes 5 hour.
It's pretty amazing how much more quiet it is now!
Nice! I love my smart garage door opener.
I wish I purchased years ago.
Nice lawn
Thanks 👍
Need to look into that. Mine is annoyingly loud.
The old one would scare both boys when they were 1. Also nice knowing it's status any given moment.
Slick setup.
I wish i had done it years ago!
Great video thanks 👏👏👏👏👏👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Outstanding ! Did you get the one with the battery backup. Or is that a waste of money.
I didn't, figure I could always open by hand if I really needed it.
Another good one Koven 👍🏼
Thanks!
Great video I hope you added the programming
Thank you! What do you mean by the programming?
I had to call customer service sine still u have to program it when to close /open Increase powers since mine was opening only 3 feet
@@Pierre-oshana yeah, I regret not adding it. It was late and I was getting too tired to record it all. I'm glad you figured it out!👌
Thax again for great work 👍
Great video. Deciding if I want to change out my chain drive opener. Nothing js wrong with it but the master bedroom is right above the garage. Wondering if it'll make a big enough difference. Also, what is the distance from the wall to the opener? I definitely don't want to have to move my current support.
Without doubt worth the upgrade to belt, so much quieter and pleasant. Mine is about 9' from the front of the motor unit to the garage door.
Great detailed video. I’m curious about one thing. Did you have to do all new wiring? Couldn’t you have just used the previous wiring setup?
Yes I did, I perhaps could have used the old wires, but since the new set looked better I used them. Plus I didn't want to run into warranty problems.
about to change mine tomorrow morning and I'm wondering if I can do it with the original cables instead of using the new wires - they're in the wall and ceiling so I really don't feel like taping/tying and pulling through or trying to drop it down from the attic
so the BLD directions completely tell you the WRONG wiring FUCK ME I spent hours trying to figure out why the light wouldn't come on the push button and then when I looked at the actual documents it showed to put the wires in 3 and 4 not 1 and 2 like the BLD app told me. GODDAMN IT
Still can't get the fucking sensors to pick up - even when I wire directly to the unit on a short wire only one light comes on so I have no fucking clue why it's so hard to get the wires to connect in the terminal
Sorry to here ROB! Have you figured it out?
Thats a liftmaster 1265
I had to Google that, did they make the same thing for different companies?
@@kove no LiftMaster is made by Chamberlain. Genie is their own company.
Well done!
Thanks Tommy!
good job !!
Thank you very much!
Very Informative video! Now that is has been a year later how has this been keeping up? Since there is so much work involved and buying this for a high price tag I would like to assume this will last for years to come lol thanks
Working like a charm! App works well too.
Thank you !!!!
Thanks for watching William!
Good work, sir!
Thanks Ben!
Very incredible
Thanks Kevin!
Nice profile pic btw 👌
Thanks!
Certainly, glad it helped!
Great video.
Thanks Eric!
MARPAT, nice.
Good eye for detail!
Great video! I just had one question. The technical details of the product on Amazon say this is for a sectional garage door only but it looks like it works great on your 1 piece garage door. Would you recommend I use it on my 1 piece garage door as well? Thanks again!
Thank you Javier! My garage door is a sectional, I don't know if it'd work for a 1 piece garage door. I've no experience with 1 piece doors either.
Thank you for your prompt reply. Thank you again for an awesome video. I especially loved the family clip at the end!
Thanks for making this video. Im about to buy the same one and I think you are the only one who has reviewed this model. Im a little confused on the part where you mark the "highest point" of the door and then use that to mark your brace position.
Where would the brace go according to this height? I was a little confused on where I should be marking and setting this brace.
Thanks!
Glad this helped! You find the highest point of travel on the door. That is the height of the middle brace I screwed in. Feel free to hit me up if you have more questions 😉.
