@@magistic345technically, they are. You never specified whether it had to be americans serving in the military or on deployments.
So, Americans are actually invincible. They're a large military powerhouse, isolated from any major areas of conflicts, protected by two massive oceans. An outside threat would have to be extremely powerful and coordinated as well as being well prepared, all without the US itself noticing. It's why most americans feel invincible, since no outside threat has ever got to them. It's why recruitment is declining, since everyone didn't feel the need to get up in arms, fighting a foreign army, knowing that they are already protected. America is invincible from the outside, but not from the inside (as you've seen with the current state of unrest n all that)

For those wondering, the marines that use this system are the 7212 LAAD gunners (Low Altitude Air Defense) these are the same guys that shoot the stingers. Their mos is like the 0351s but they focus on air threats and the 0351s focus on ground threats like tanks and other armored vics. Also they’re not considered to be grunts because they fall under the Marine Air wing, they do grunt shit all the time. They mostly MANPAD or set up team positions (which is gay asf 🤦♂️). It’s a pretty cool MOS. If you are looking into the Corp and want to join this MOS it’s either by signing a combat support contract or by signing a 7200 contract (tbh I don’t really know I got pretty lucky). They are indeed a Combat Arms MOS so it is pretty physically demanding.

microwave and radar are non-ionizing radiation. Visible light has more energy than microwaves at a given intensity. You start getting cancer only at UV and X-ray wavelengths
Microwaves are considered non ionizing radiation so it doesn’t really cause the same amount of damage as x rays and gamma rays

Just for some reference, that IR shot tracking the drone while it got one of its props blasted off with a laser is incredibly impressive.
The fact that it can hold that track with such relatively tight framing, all while the drone is wildly tumbling out of control, that's some serious tracking algorithms right there.
Just a matter of time before they're tracking humans like that.
@@Secretgeek2012 it’s fair to say they already do. Places like the Korean DMZ. Although they’ll just be tracking, not shooting.
Don’t forget any military tech they voluntarily show us is usually not cutting edge anymore.
I agree, only now are we seeing semi-modern military vehicles/electronics getting declassified and it's still blowing some people's minds. Just imagine what they have hidden away in bases or private workshops like lockheed etc.@@joelmulder
@@joelmulder I mean, for the Korean DMZ they might also be able to shoot. The SGR-A1 might still be in use at the border. The unit cost for them back in 2006 was surprisingly cheap, about US$200k, and even though Samsung Techwin was acquired by Hanwa, they probably could still make more of them. They were even known to be armed with MGLs.
@@G0LD3NR0D There are currently several conventions which, while not directly banning them, should prevent lethal autonomous weapons systems, specifically in and employed by the US. Considering the close ties between the US and South Korea, it’s unlikely any completely autonomous weapons are present.
Don’t forget, there isn’t really any good reason to shoot on sight in the DMZ, so autonomously firing doesn’t make any sense. Shooting North Korean refugees is just nonsensical, and shooting North Korean soldiers on-sight even more idiotic.
If there are any armed and automated tracking installations, only the tracking will be automated. As good as tracking algorithms are, I don’t believe for a second our tech is good enough to reliably distinguish between a refugee and an armed combatant. We’re only just starting to see that sort of tech emerge.
(That being said, people fleeing through the DMZ is about as uncommon as armed forces in the DMZ, but that’s another discussion.)
The amount of energy to dry those distant drones must be phenomenal, they are changing the molecules in the air.

UK kinda beat you to the punch with their new mounted laser weapon, not quite the same but it's gimballed

shows a laser “fries the electronic systems”
as a drone pilot, yes this is the best and only way to take out drones.. when I see weapon systems being engineered to shoot down drones it makes me cringe so bad..
you don't even need to fry the electronics, most FPV drones are using digital reception to communicate with the drone.. point a freaking antenna with a strong enough signal to the incoming drone and you'll jam the signal, either making it drop like a stone or go in a RTH state or stationary mode... that's how drones are taken down during events when people try to fly their drones while it's not authorized.. and it really requires a battery, an antenna and an operator basically.. and all the DJI drones will go down in seconds as well.. just don't waste stupid bullets or nets etc
Long term they will be made to be GPS guided or intertial guidance, not as good as piloting manual but it will make interference based interception less useful, since they'll hit *something* rather than dropping out of the sky
@@meateawInertial guidance is key there. GPS is actually very easy to jam. The signals it's based on are emitted by geostationary satellites, meaning they're more than twice as far away above you as the opposite side of the Earth is below you. In other words, the signals are pretty weak and it doesn't take much signal strength to disrupt in a significant area. (Doing so is, normally, _very_ illegal of course, but the military doesn't have to care as much about that.)
In terms of drone threats, this is a good thing though. Making a good inertial guidance system is rather difficult (and expensive), so I'm fairly confident that we won't see many unjammable drones in the hands of terrorists (and terrorist states) in the foreseeable future.
"As a drone pilot..."
...well, maybe I should tell you about a "drone incident" at a former workplace.
Security forces ignored the drone and went for the RF source instead. Both "former drone pilots" would probably testify that it didn't work out as they expected.
UWB, relays, or, as mentioned in the other responses, autonomous systems seem to have grown in populated since.
Yes. GPS uses UWB. Can be jammed easier at low transmit power, and triangulated easily if you have a stronger transmitter. But all of that really took off a few years ago...in the 1980s, I think.
@@mnxs now they've worked on an algorithm that takes satellite images and matches them up with what it's seeing in real time completely bypasses jamming
Those aren't US drones, so wtf would you care? 😂
The most interesting thing about this is not that they've got a vehicle that shoots down drones but rather the fact that they're using it to defend a ship by literally parking it on the deck.
If they can do that with other weapons systems, what we will have is an increasingly modular US fleet.
Imagine a vehicle with its own Phalanx anti-aircraft system, tied into the ship's radar control. Or a Patriot that you can just drive on to the deck.
I think it’s actually a microwave beam that they are using against drones. Similar to the effort to deter angry crowds by microwaving them causing them to disperse. Like they say never put anything metal inside a microwave
Soon you will see backpacks soldiers wearing that can either jam or fry drones.
Drones changed the warfare dramatically.
but I doubt they could pack that kind of device and the gun that fires bullets into a single weapon
and since it requires a lot of power, soldiers also have to carry battery pack too
@@za_pravdu1943 the way things are going with drones though, it wont be long before its pretty much standard practice to have a droneman and probably an assistant droneman as well in every infantry squad, who is a dedicated anti-drone warfare soldier.
Nope. Takes way too much energy. Can’t man pack a few hundred pounds of batteries.

For everyone who thought Drones were the New Wave of warfare...
This tech should become standard on key military installations such as field hospitals, armories and magazine depots, and command centers.
I mean they are the new wave of warfare, it will take decades for every base to be fully protected from drones, and imagine countries worldwide trying to prepare for these issues
Many installations have AA batteries but we still have aircraft, AP mines and we still have grunts, etc. 🤔
😢😢8
it is easy to disrupt their flight...with one means or another
You know microwaves are fairly easy to shield against, right? Just look at your microwave oven. Next generation of drones will have AI to recognize targets, such as these and will autonomously find and hunt down those vehicles. Not to mention mortars and tanks. Once those are gone, it's prime time for drones again.
Now, if we can just redirect those drones back to the bastards who launched them
Would probably be the CIA
