I’m a former United States Marine 0311,now my two sons are actively serving. One is with 1/5 and the other is with 3/1. Jocko we thank you sir, one for your service and the kind words you have for the Corps.
I am a marine. I choked up When he said "The marine Corps has been walking past those sea bags for over 200 years". He's right. The drill instructors take a person who wouldn't hurt a fly (that's not entirely true because that kind of person doesn't join the marines) and turns them into a person who is itching for a fight. What that really means is, when you see those who have fallen a) you get fired up and want to kill the enemy till your last breath for then they did to your brothers and b) we have a job to do, lets go do it.
What if a person who wouldn't hurt a fly joined the Marines? Would they get turned into a person itching for a fight? I know it's a pretty dumb question.
@@mr.broski2427end of MCT range, some guy (our plts scribe) admitted he didnt like weapons or killing. the instructor: "why the fuck did you join then? why are you here" we all collectively heckled him
I was 3/8 Weapons Company. We were in Hurricane Point back in 2006. I can remember kicking quite a few doors with you Frogs. Some of them didn’t want to let us in. 🍻 Cheers Brothers!🍻
Was in the Marines for 26 years both enlisted and officer. Marines are overall the youngest fighters across the military normally average around 19 years old. They do most of the fighting and they pay the heaviest cost. They more often than not are the first to fight (besides special ops) and more often than not are the ones who bore the brunt of political incompetence and lack of leadership by sacrificing all. This happens most of the time. However when and if the political and military leadership let them off their leash. They absolutely complete the mission, any mission particularly destroying the enemy. They are the most effective and efficient fighting force the world has ever seen (as long as our workeness doesnt completely wreck them). The naive and moronic leadership in DC has for decades tried its best to ruin the Marine Corps often labeled the "extremist" of all of our military. All the "old timers" like me have to wonder if the Marines will actually survive and still represent what has been built for over 200 years.
Its the same for the entire military. You spend an awful lot of time talking and thinking about politicians. We do our job despite politicians, the military as a whole is A-political.
