  • On June 5th, 2024, a small risk for tornadoes would materialize over the Mid-Atlantic region as the environment was primed for supercells to take shape. While there was high dewpoints and cloud coverage over the area, favorable hodographs and high levels of CAPE lay over Maryland and it was only a matter of time until a storm took advantage of such an environment. By 6:30 P.M. EDT, a line of supercells began to organize along the Virginia/Maryland state line. My buddy Isaac and I would drive southeast along I-270 towards Gaithersburg making our way towards tail end charlie, and by the time we were West of Gaithersburg the storm would go tornado warned. Upon arrival of this supercell, a low hanging wall cloud loom over the rolling hills and trees while positive bolts of lightning popped out well ahead of this supercell. The first tornado would materialize within 5 minutes of us pulling up to an open vantage point as if it were waiting for us, and what started as a wispy mess of a funnel would quickly materialize into a violent tornado full of suction vortices. This is the first tornado of what would become a cyclic supercell that would trek across all of Central Maryland, this tornado moving no less than 1000 feet away from our vantage point. Most of the clips used in this video are RAW footage compiled together for I felt seeing it in real time would truly capture the beauty that this tornado was. Unfortunately this storm would go on to hit Gaithersburg as it cycled right over the suburb, causing property damage and injuries. Luckily no one was killed! While I've witnessed some crazy supercells over the plains, this will go down as one of the craziest storm chases of my career. Hope you enjoy!

Or, “…violent tornado, violent tornado!!!” Is there any other kind? Docile? Passive?

@@gregmauser574 weak, strong, severe (violent), devastating… There is different terminology for tornadoes used to categorize what type of warning is placed on them by NWC when observed. All can be damaging but there is definitely a difference between violent tornadoes and weak tornadoes

That was incredible how the sides of the wall cloud seemed to be tumbling vertically as the tornado spun next to it - absolutely awe inspiring.

good job folks! those were all just vortexes. i believe the ocean saved the area, wouldnt allow the whole to come together.
