This was the second Wizard I ever bought behind the Azreal Batman cover! I love what you guys are doing!!! Brings back amazing memories! Keep it up Kayfabers!!!
Lori Petty, Lori Petty played Tank Girl in the movie. That movie is stupid from start to finish....but...I fuckin' love it. I still have the Tank Girl shirt I bought opening weekend for that train wreck.
I feel like Rob Liefeld's superheroes are like when you play a superhero MMO (Champions Online or DC Universe Online), and it has like a customization screen, where you can pick from a number of already existing traits, so every superhero ends up resembling some other superhero.
1:34:40 "I wish he would have done a whole book in this style." Regarding the Liefeld marriage proposal, I always though Shadowhawk #0 was done in this Sharpie-is style. It was the first Liefeld book I ever bought. I used to not like his other style. Check out Shadowhawk #0!!
From what a friend who drove George Perez around during a con in Hawaii, George mentioned this is the first year he cracked $1 mil in royalties. Hard work does pay off...!
BBC still Records dramatizations of fiction stories using voice actors. There are a bunch of episodic Stephen King stories they do that are really good
Really dug your thoughts on characters like Conan, the Shadow, and The Phantom. I get to play in The Phantom sandbox for Frew/King Features in Australia, and scribble and ink pages while listening to your shows and thoughts on comics, and the Wizard era, so naturally agree that these characters legacies in stories need to live on for the next gen, definitely at least to discover the cartoonists around the world who write and draw these stories. Keep up the fantastic content, pointing out a whole range of cartoonists beyond the big two, and expanding reading lists. I also have a greater appreciation for what the image guys did. As an aside, I have my own inspirational (and comically awkward) Todd McFarlane story from a decade ago at a con here in Aus, I’ll share if you guys care, but absolutely dig when he speaks his mind and drops some science. Cheers from Australia, Gents.
Knight Sabre is lifted from Bubblegum Crisis, a Japanese anime OAV series from the 80’s. The heroes in that are the Knight Sabers. Classic Liefeld lifting names from other media. 🤷♂️
I was friends with Platt during all that. Such a strange time. He later asked me to write the Captain America rip off Liefeld published later - -that got killed because I was writing Pitt and Loeb and Liefeld wanted me to provide leverage to end Keown's lawsuit against Liefeld, Strange days, man. . . .
They did end up finishing JLA/Avengers after a long delay. That was one of the first series I ever owned. All of it was illustrated by Perez, it's damn gorgeous.
Anyone interested in the Conan discussion should seek out the fill-in issues done on the presently published Jason Aaron Marvel run drawn by Gerrado Zaffino. Imo, his work is right up the Kayfabe alley, Richard Corben meets Jae Lee.
Seeing those new Youngblood characters reminds me of what Alan Moore made of them in the Judgement Day series. He could take the most shallow, knockoff characters and find some new weird twist in them. Troll and Knight Sabre both turned out to be a lot stranger than we thought...
I bought several issues of Wandering Star through the mail from Teri Wood after reading about it in Wizard, and she included a couple of the postcards. I still have them. Loved the series.
At 50:44 you guys are talking about the bbc radio show of knightfall - I had it on cassette tape. They sold them at Barnes & Noble. I had that, the Death and Return of Superman, and Kingdom Come on Cassette.
Thanks so much for being such a huge source my entertainment. I was dying when Ed was showing wolverine riding to prom in Wolverine Top secret. You both rock and u got a sub for life. kafaybe for life. Keep cutting promos n breaking necks!
Those C&D Man-Eater series is just amazing. Keith did all three covers and they are all three masterpieces. I have a set of them in my for sale box right now packaged up.
Gerhard has done small stories with people like Grant Morrison published in Heavy Metal recently. He is still doing work, but does more illustrations than comics most of the time.
I had and loved this issue of Wizard Magazine. John Prophet was badass! If you want a character inspired by John Rambo, Cable, and Wolverine, Prophet is for you!
I was really surprised to hear you guys didn't know Saturday Night Slam Masters. However, it's a big recommendation. Character designs by Tetsuo Hara, which might interest Ed as I noticed he picked up a Cyber Blue reprint while he was in Japan.
In the "so much damage" documentary series on UA-cam I think they say Portacio didn't become I stakeholder because in the first year of Image had had to spend a lot of time in The Philippines to take care of some family matters.
hey all, I can tell ya how Shi became a success-Billy Tucci hustled the book like young bands go on tour. I met him at a comic book store in 94 where he was selling the first issue 1. Crusade promos even used tour as a term to describe con appearances. Even yall describe encountering him at public appearances. Like another long island institution (where me n billy are from/live) Blue oyster cult-built fans one show at a time.
Billy Tucci is the man, I just got Zombie Sama with Shi's return ash can off IndieGoGo and he's about to re-launch the Shi series on IGG. I met him a few weeks ago at Baltimore Comic-Con he was the nicest guy in the building. I've seen him on other channels on youtube he's super fun and well-spoken, I'd love to see you guys interview him.
Was Marvel Action Hour the cartoon that was introduced by Stan Lee? If so, this was one of the only cartoons my dad took some interest in when I was little and I think the Lee introduction was what caught his eye initially.
Saturday Night Slam Masters was a game I rented with two friends one night when we were maybe 13. It was decent, for one night of fights, nothing memorable. The game did what it could without a license.
If anyone's interested check out the youtube channel top hat gaming man...he does deep dives into the history of retro gaming consoles and games. He has a great video on Saturday night slam masters.
''I'd read that book'' is becoming Jim's version of ''I'd buy that for a dollar!''...

Fashion Plates!
Ed and Jim, I'm so glad you mentioned Mike McMahon . Such an amazing artist and my favorite Dredd.

Would be great to see you guys look at Mike Mcmahon’s the last American. Brilliant marker colours!

Strange days, man. . . .
Subscribed, I enjoyed the channel, this stuff takes me back
They did end up finishing JLA/Avengers after a long delay. That was one of the first series I ever owned. All of it was illustrated by Perez, it's damn gorgeous.
I just got to the channel. Been watching your Wizard reviews and Man it takes me back. Love it guys! I hope you keep it up.
Anyone interested in the Conan discussion should seek out the fill-in issues done on the presently published Jason Aaron Marvel run drawn by Gerrado Zaffino. Imo, his work is right up the Kayfabe alley, Richard Corben meets Jae Lee.
An inked version of those Platt Marvel Comics Presents pages have been on Comicartfans for years, if anyone was curious.
Would love to see a Kayfabe episode focused on Dredd

When Ed said, "..fucking zero!" in regards to Geomancer I literally spit out my coffee
1:07:12 Hey, a shoutout to Rafael Kayanan! That's great to hear! Great guy. Great artist.
At 50:44 you guys are talking about the bbc radio show of knightfall - I had it on cassette tape. They sold them at Barnes & Noble. I had that, the Death and Return of Superman, and Kingdom Come on Cassette.
Actually, it's on spotify -- open.spotify.com/playlist/5ORLlyKvYVMLGlsmznuBKt
I feel like that Wolverine swipe that Jim talks about might be a Sam Kieth...?
Thanks so much for being such a huge source my entertainment. I was dying when Ed was showing wolverine riding to prom in Wolverine Top secret. You both rock and u got a sub for life. kafaybe for life. Keep cutting promos n breaking necks!
Kayanan did a bunch of Firestorm and Captain Atom comics for DC
Hahaha I had an old neighbor who had a ton of Indy books and I was hyped for the badger cartoon as a kid 🤣🤣
Lori petty played tank girl.
Great show. Would like more George Perez stuff
Those C&D Man-Eater series is just amazing. Keith did all three covers and they are all three masterpieces. I have a set of them in my for sale box right now packaged up.
As for the Wolverine pose it makes me think of either a Keith Wolverine or a Bisley Lobo.
Lake of Fire is such a garbage book. I just recorded an episode of the Epic Marvel Crossover podcast where we did that book and man it was rough.
Gerhard has done small stories with people like Grant Morrison published in Heavy Metal recently. He is still doing work, but does more illustrations than comics most of the time.
"I don't want it. Unless it's here." lol
I had and loved this issue of Wizard Magazine. John Prophet was badass! If you want a character inspired by John Rambo, Cable, and Wolverine, Prophet is for you!
Yo Ed had me rolling for most this episode. I’d pay good money to get roasted by this dude. 😂🤣😂
I bought anything Cris Ware, so good.
I had X-O Manowar vs Ironman on the Sega Saturn. Not sure if it was Activison... probably was.
Turok on N64 was dope
The Drawing Board Wolverine posing is swiped from The Maxx or Pitt.
I was really surprised to hear you guys didn't know Saturday Night Slam Masters. However, it's a big recommendation. Character designs by Tetsuo Hara, which might interest Ed as I noticed he picked up a Cyber Blue reprint while he was in Japan.
Ed describing young Conan made me want to see Ed do a Young Groo the Wanderer mini series.
Aristides Ruiz is the illustrator of all the Cat in the Hat's Learning Library books.
Gerhard did "The Smile of the Absent Cat" Grant Morrison in Heavy Metal!!!!!!
In the "so much damage" documentary series on UA-cam I think they say Portacio didn't become I stakeholder because in the first year of Image had had to spend a lot of time in The Philippines to take care of some family matters.

I think that Wolverine pose was maybe from a Maxx cover?

ha, that's the month I was born

Lori Petty played tank girl! she's great in Orange is the new black as the mentally ill inmate!
Yes! Lori Petty. Don't know why that name slipped my mind. She's also in the classic Point Break!
@@CartoonistKayfabe - And "A League of Their Own"... one of the few sports movie I can sit through.
Lori Petty, tank girl
1994: the beginning of the end.
oh man that ad for DC Dredd, bloody awful all round, such a diss to the 2000AD original stuff
"Conan the adventurer"? it's that Wayne tv series www.imdb.com/title/tt7765404/
These b-holes got me buying a lot of Jae Lee drawn Namor comics I stared at on the rack but never bought.
