I don't understand why the moaning about stating the fact that some parts are doubled/layered. It is rather common to have doubling in live performances and it just enhances the impact of repeat chorus and sounds pretty amazing in this case. It doesn't take anything away from Diana's amazing vocals, only adds to the amazingness. She is brilliant but not a polyphonic superhuman 😁

I grew up in the 1960s and I haven't been this amazed by a musical artist since I first listened to Jimi Hendrix back in 1967. I listen to Diana every day, and I'm still as much amazed by her today as I was the first time I heard her.
She is so unique!

Along with her amazing contralto voice she has a natural polyphonic sound in her voice that sounds like two different ranges at the same time. Thanks for hearing that part of the voice she projects.🙏🏼

Oh! Its real.....I saw the video that Maya referred to. Broke it down note by note, later in this composition Diana had some voice trouble and the TV show documented the visit with a specialist. What she is able to produce vocally is extraordinary. This was Diana's audition and those are limited in time, approximately 2 minutes. She has longer versions of this composition, some with live instrumentation. Diana stated this is her (calling card), most requested song in her repertoire.

Hi! The first attempt to pronounce the surname (АнкудИнова) was correct, the accent on (i). This is a short version of the song, there was a time limit at the contest. There are several videos with the full version from the concert stage. Diana has three working octaves (D3-D6)
Please don't make us wait almost 4 months for a reaction to Diana's "Rechenka." 😉
Although this particular performance is an abbreviated version of the song, it is my favorite for a few reasons. I feel this performance has the most enthusiasm and 'brightness' and it is fun watching these judges witness her extraordinary talent for the very first time. But since you are a fan of the original song by Indila, a few of Diana's full-length "Derniere Danse" performances are certainly worth watching.

I would like to say about Diana's polyphonic-like ability of singing. She really can do this. I saw someone's reaction to her Wicked Game with special equipment that allows to slow down singing to hear clearly every single note a singer hits. So, doing this you can hear that she can sing two notes in a special way - she hits a neccessary higner note and a relevant lower one- very close to each other, very quickly. When you just listen to them with your ears they sound like just one uncanny note with a polyphonic-like effect. Something like yodeling but not that stark, not that obvious.

The professional vocal coaches say that it's ALL her voice. She learnt to Yodel at a very young age. Apparently she's only using 1.5 octave range when she sings but she has a naturally honking big larynx and excellent placement. To achieve the low seeming range she places her larynx low down and back towards the rear of her neck. Check out the reaction of The Fairy Voice Mother. She gave a brilliant analysis of Diana's voice. To hear more of her astounding vocal ability react to her singing Rechenka on a talent show (Russian equivalent of The Voice). She was only 14 at the time. You'll be utterly blown away!

You know that thing at 3:50 is her 100%. I wanted to clean up some audio resonanses I thouth were walls reflections on a boat concert she did but when I eq'd them out vocal got damped and became unnatural sounding. Later I encountered that same thing on a open stage recording and in her living room practise video too. So yeah its her own voice doubling up everywhere like a phaser.

You can watch maybe tens of versions of this performance in various venues w various amounts of instruments, there is one w a mandichord where I think you can carefully analyze her singing the part you focused on in the revisit. She does create backup harmonies on her own but those are 'like things one does at home during a pandemic I suspect."

This was her debut performance on You Are Super at 14. After that song she was tipped to win the whole thing which she did. No mods are allowed, it's a talent show after all, just a little reverb from the mike but that's all.

Sometimes it is hard for us to believe what we hear ourselves. Diana is an amazing singer and is still at the beginning of her - hopefully great - career. It must have been difficult for her - audition, vocal competition, nerves - and yet she sang great. I listened to this song in her performance later, already at concerts - it was even better because she didn't have to stress - she was born to sing. Well, if it was a concert, one might wonder, but it was a vocal competition - any help from outside would break the rules and result in being thrown out of the program. Judges are very sensitive to attempts at cheating.

Dernière Dance. Guess this would help 'Last Dance' and yes, in French it is helpful to understand how a would is pronounced. There is a big difference between e, è and é. And for the average English speakers who doesn't know the difference derniere, as it was typed in the title, makes mispronouncing inevitable. English speakers always have this problem. They make up pronunciation to fit their, rather basic, understanding of European languages and how they evolved.
It isn't a critique, it is the way it is. The one advantage most Europeans have over English speakers have: Most languages spoken on the continent have the same roots, and travelling within the boundaries of the EU means an understanding of the basics.

Hello, Diana! What a surprise. There's a longer version of her singing this song. For some reason they used a shorter one for this show.
It can be doubling or mb a chorus effect? I know some people like to complain about spatial effects on voices. The truth is that modern instrumentals don't have any real space in the first place (unless you're recording an actual orchestra in a hall) and you have to add effects to a voice, to bring it into the mix.

Almost unrelated question: as a music teacher, what is your opinion on irrational time signatures (like 4/3 etc). I know some people try to use them, but does it have any reason besides being weird (considering you can replace them with tempo markings)? Can they be easier to process for a trained musician?
The same question goes for "theoretical" key signatures. Like C# maj for example. Are there any practical reasons? (like switching from B to C# instead of Db, without using any naturals - quite a weak idea imo). Have you ever? :-D

Thanks for watching and for your comment :) Regarding your time signature questions, it's not something I look into much so I don't have a lot of thoughts on it, except that in modern times there always needs to be more and more done to revolutionise music. I haven't really performed or learn't any songs in these kinds of time signatures, nor have I theoretical key signatures. Whilst C# Major is not a theoretical key signature, it does contain a whole bunch of sharps! I feel like they're useless tbh. Double sharps and double flats have their place, but creating whole keys out of them just serve to confuse the person learning the piece of music without any benefit to the listener at all
The more you listen to her you'll realize she is polyphonic. You can hear it in many other performances where the setting is much more intimate.
It could have been post performance editing by the show or TV distributor (HTB?) to enhance viewer interest. I've heard technically savvy reactors comment that it's a common problem with all the competition shows. I'm a huge fan of Diana and her sound is remarkable in its own right.
BTW, this is her first song on this show and no one jury's member know something about Deeana. The Supernova bang.

I took 5 years of French. Her French is very good!
👉 Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range D3-D6). Also Diana's voice has a polyphonic undertone = first subharmonic. (Pocket folds, aryepiglottic folds vibrate in addition to the vocal cords). The last to hit the button was Igor Gerzina a famous European producer/composer/etc (I heard someone describe him as the Simon Cowell of Europe, but with tons more experience and talent). He commented later, when asked why he didn't hit the buzzer immediately, that he didn't want to interrupt the performance, just get lost in it, and that he waited til the large break, near the end, to hit the button.

I think you're quite right about the post-production effect in this video. I believe she also goes "polyphonic" in some places here, but it sounds like a spectral bass tone (very strong subharmonic resonance). The part you pointed out clearly sounds like double tracking to me. I think it's not uncommon to use it in post-production of singing competitions, but I really wish they didn't do it here. There are a dozen other performances where you can hear her singing that part without an effect, and it sounds amazing in its natural form. Also, it muddles the very cool and original low-range yodel she does at the start of the vocalese. Thankfully, I don't hear any post-processing as intrusive as this in her other videos from this show.
