- Concerned by the animal welfare, conservation and human health impacts of civet coffee tourism, The Civet Project team travel to Vietnam in search of the real cost of the world's most expensive coffee.
Civet coffee (also known as 'kopi luwak,' 'weasel coffee,' and 'cat-poo-chino') is coffee that has been partially digested by civets, nocturnal cat-like animals.
Since it's rise to fame in popular media in the early 2000's, the international civet coffee market has continued to grow, and its market value is now expected to reach an estimated $10.9billion USD by 2030.
In attempts to meet consumer demand, civet coffee is now made through the caging and force-feeding of wild-caught civets across southeast Asia. Caged production has led to devastating consequences for animal welfare, conservation, and human health.
Yet still, civet coffee continues to grow in popularity across the world.
Still, civet coffee tourism is promoted widely to coffee enthusiasts and to travellers.
Civet Coffee: From Rare to Reckless is a call to animal NGOs, and the tourism and coffee industries- to make civet coffee history.

Thank you to everyone involved in the conservation of endangered species - it's about time the preservation of the natural world was placed ahead of vested interests and mindless consumption and exploitation.
Such an important documentary. Thank you for the work you are doing!!
Vietnam is such a beautiful country and Civets are amazing animals, fantastic documentary and well done to everyone involved on screen and behind!
Do you have a link to the petition? A hard watch but very informative about another awful way animals are being exploited.

@@TheCivetProjectthank you
I wish more people were aware of these secretive species and the way they're being exploited and used for this horrible industry. This documentary will definitely help shed light on the situation and the threats these animals face. You're doing a fantastic job putting information out there to help protect civets and all wildlife that is affected by snare traps and illegal wildlife trafficking too, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. We are hopeful that together we can make a positive difference for civet species.
Thank you for such an informative documentary on such a terrible practice. I hope we can end this exploitation.
