Fun fact: Umbriel is the name of one of Uranus' moons. The writers used that name to reinforce the parody of Ariel (which is also a name of one of Uranus' moons) from Little Mermaid.
This episode has one of my favorite jokes: "Dear lord, that's over 150 atmospheres of pressure!" "How many atmospheres can the ship withstand?" "Well, it's a spaceship, so I'd say anywhere between zero and one."
carpetbagger is a largely historical term used by Southerners to describe opportunistic Northerners who came to the Southern states after the American Civil War, who were perceived to be exploiting the local populace for their own financial, political, and/or social gain
So named because a popular form of luggage in that era was the "carpet bag", a large bag made from an ornamental carpet, like a fancy-looking gym bag. It would be like calling someone a "suit-caser", the point being that these folks ain't from around here.
I'm more so looking forward to the ones with Amazonia, Roswell, the coin flipped parallel world and the Eye-Phone. Purely for the high level of WTF value.
Zoidberg should have used that spray back on his home planet when he was trying to pick up chicks. Better yet, market it to his people as colone and make a fortune
As someone who lives in Atlanta, this episode annoys me. No one out here talks like they’re from Gone With the Wind! Also, have you never had Manwich? It’s worth eating regardless of what happens.
The dialect probably came with evolving into mermaids. So be sure to keep that Coca-Cola plant properly maintained in the meantime. Because you'll soon be needing it.
I might have held it against him but he only knew her for a day so of course he wasn’t that attached and hardly knew her, so most people would have done the same thing lol
My mom was a huge Donovan fan! I’ve got childhood photos with his poster in the background. As much as I love The Little Mermaid, I wouldn’t want that music here. The Atlantis/Atlanta song sets a nice mystical tone.
I don't know why mermaids are always depicted as half fish at least in modern times where we're aware of the reproductive differences between fish and mammals, one time I read a book where mermaids where shown as half dolphin, a mammal, making the fantasy of being with them more plausible.
The Mandatory fishing license, Leela's errant harpoon, and Fry's deep sea discovery. 9:45 Well, Great Big Sea had just that cover art on their album "The Hard and the Easy" (2005): ua-cam.com/video/NhRWJ8ARpng/v-deo.html
the word carpetbagger i think in this case means someone from the northern us who went to the southern us after the civil to profit from the reconstruction. yeah that phrase is kinda racist.
I think you're starting to get the hang of this series! One thing happening doesn't necessarily carry over to the next show. Just sit back, and enjoy the madness. It's flexible reality is similar to The Simpsons, but with just a touch more nonsense.
Oh god Zoidberg nibbling on Profs head. In all of Futurama those are the two body parts that I most hopped would never come in contact with each other. Yuck!!
IOt's like that scene from Family guy where Peters having a hard time finding the ... on the mermaid's tail, and when she says "That's not it!" he answers "It's gonna be!" Why did Fry run away so easily, she had... other abilities.
The whole "Caffine speeding up evolution" explaination is a bit absurd, even for this show, whete everything else at leat has some basis in reality or probability.
@@onyx081 Perhaps not, but the show is known for having more accuracy than most other science fiction shows. After all, some of it's writers have Ph.D.s in math and/or physics.

Yep, both were in Shakespeare plays. They decided to use a different source instead of Classical myths for once.
Don't you mean Urectum?
I did not know that
"deep sea madness is no excuse for deep sea rudeness" is probably one of my favorite Futurama quotes.

And they've been sore losers ever since.
Those southerners. Known for their dislike of those who exploit people for financial, political, and/or social gain.
Poor Zoidberg, got his own place only for it to be destroyed in a very confusing way
Even physics has it out for Zoidberg
Can’t wait to watch your reaction to the poppler episode. It’s easily one of my favorite lol
Same.
I'm more so looking forward to the ones with Amazonia, Roswell, the coin flipped parallel world and the Eye-Phone. Purely for the high level of WTF value.
you mean KFC
Well, so much for that whole “the south will rise again” thing.
this episode is futurama at its best

That relationship was rather fishy.
@@0okamino oh lord, I’m sending you to pun jail 😂
Always sad when someone doesn't recognize Donovan music.
Well, Donovan Leitch is a 1960's Pop star... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donovan
Yes Eric accept it is best show ever ,it has little nuggets everywhere and we are all better for it

I think aqua manns version of merpeople is more accurate

Great reaction!
Come on, beings with trout heads and human legs are the pinnacle of sexy. 🤣
Then you should check out the fish people from an anime called The Slayers. They're pretty much the epitome of that.
8:10 Bender crying

Future nonsense, which is more advanced.
Uh I should point out that there are viviparous fish (fish that can bear live young and have the eggs inside of them) so they still could’ve… ya know…
The Magician

question would they be able to use a whole new world now? since disney owns fox?

Why couldn't she be the other kind of mermaid...thats true
Greetings from 2005 and Great Big Sea: ua-cam.com/video/NhRWJ8ARpng/v-deo.html
you suppose sea life mutated and evolved, or did aliens introduce new species to the ecosystem?
Both, look at Zoidberg

I highly doubt anyone is watching Futurama for realism and scientific accuracy

In Futurama the concepts presented are either absurdly fictional or absurdly realistic. That's one of the reasons why I love this show so much
