I’ve seen Phelps’ career explode and shining, but i still can’t find a more talented swimmer than Ian Thorpe (maybe Popovici). And i think that in swimming History only Popov and Sun Yang can Reach Ian’s level of pure Technical Perfection, his freestyle was Poetry in motion, one of the very few athletes which put Technical Perfection and beauty of the gesture together (Senna, Alì, Federer, Jordan).
@Vi Blue I have to disagree. Ian is great but Phelps is just ridiculously amazing. He averaged world records. He also has respect from the swim world and the world outside of swimming even when the general public don’t really care about swimming/swimmers, they love Michael. He’s the goat tbh.
I wouldn’t put Sun Yang on the same level of “technical perfection”; his turns were not as good for example and there is the “stuff” issues that never hung over Thorpe or Phelps. Phelps was more polyvalent, lasted longer. Thorpe was the best free styler I ever saw, spanning 100 (bronze at Olympics) to 800 (gold at world and world record). For years he simply was untouchable in the 200 and 400.
Michael Phelps is far FAR greater than Ian Thorpe ever was 😂😂😂 this is a ridiculous comment. Phelps won more Olympic titles in Athens alone than Thorpe did in his entire career. You can be a fan of Thorpe but don’t be stupid.
@@user-em4wh5ji3w Yeah but Thorpe did it in freestyle which is the fastest way to swim. Swimming is weird in how we can look at someone as insanely ahead of his time and talented like Thorpe and call him insignificant to Phelps because Phelps was better and more versatile with slower strokes.
